    Why there is so much negativity in this comment section. One can't have this kind of expedition alone. Theoretically he can go there with a expedition team, install their own rope lines and carry their own luggage. But it would be a bad decision economically and from the commonsense's point view. As one can use paid services of Sherpa. Sherpas aren't slave but they are professional service provider. Respect all individuals' attempt to climb any eight thousander. It's difficult.

      How many meters have you walked without oxygen at 8000m? It's very easy make such condescending comments from your couch. What he did it is amazing. Sherpas helped for sure. But one has to walk his own walk up there. If he couldn't walk there, he would be left behind as dead body. This gentleman has done a great job.

      @@nisargjani8050 No. Not amazing at all. I have absolutely NO sympathy for these fools that die on Everest. Many leave behind spouses and small children. They are selfish, arrogant, an stupid! They get what they deserve! And there is nothing wrong with relaxing on a couch!

    The opening trek through the forest is beautiful, with the mountains in the background. Also the trek is important for fitness and to acclimate.
    Who cares who is the first Dane to climb Everest without O2? Trying to set records like that just puts more people in danger.

    • @GustavThuesen

      The trek is both important and beautiful as you mention! There have already been 200 on the summit of Everest without the use of supplemental oxygen, so I don't think anybody really cares that much - only a few Danes... This is more about being in the mountains and "enjoying" the climb.

    Sherpa Nirmal Purja, has put all other mountaineers firmly in their place. 99% of summiteer's get there only because the Sherpa and High altitude porters around the world prepare the routes for them.

    What's more impressive - not using oxygen, or carrying your own gear/supplies rather than using sherpa's?

    • @GustavThuesen
      @GustavThuesen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely carrying your own gear. However, without being an expert, I think it would be impossible to climb Everest solo (say the mountain was empty). I understand your skepticism about wealthy people from all over the world "climbing" Everest and putting Sherpas in danger doing so when they need to drag inexperienced "mountaineers" to the top. However, it is a complicated matter. The tourism Everest has brought has done both good and bad to the area and the people living there.

      @@GustavThuesen As I wrote above a Hungarian guy (who did climb the K2 and the Lhotse without O2 and sherpas) died at the Hillary step a few days ago. Almost got there....Apparently, 212 people have already managed to achieve this feat....i.e. climbing the Mt. Everest without extra O2 and sherpas. So, it is certainly possible, but must be incredibly hard.

    well it is not important that you starve your body of oxygen then think that this is an important goal it is in fact just
    foolish so lets just move on to realistic activities unless you think holding your breath until you black out has some
    ultruististic value beyond just plain stupid
