My tripod went over, and my r500 canon no work. 😢 So I bought one of these beauties. I sent it back within 2 hours of playing with it and bought a chewed up r700 that I stole parts off of the r500 to resurrect. It's simple. These are low grade hardware wrapped with excellent software.

It still looks like a camcorder. Throw on some cheap color grading software plug ins on a $100 prosumer editing program like Cyberlink Power director and you get the same thing. Record the audio separately with a cheap digital recorder and an inexpensive shotgun mic and adjust the EQ in the editing software. There is NO F’ing NEED to pay $3,000 other than the ego massage of showing off to others how “professional” you are. It is pretentious and UNARTISTIC

Golly, we'd love to have a big professional camcorder, but we're elderly and have limited budgets. Besides, the gear has to be light enough to be packed into the backwoods and again, OLD GUYS, so light gear. We'd LOVE to have that new Sony 4K camcorder, but can't afford $1,000 each. Two is best. For now, we have 1080p Sony camcorders and one Canon 1080p as well as a Sony Actioncam that has surprisingly GREAT sound and with a case, it can work under water. Plus we use a Moultrie wildlife camcorder/camera that straps to a tree and we pick that up once a week for cleaning, downloading, and put it back out on a game trail again. It is true that owning a Professional Camcorder can get you paying gigs, because no matter your skill on a camera, years experience, software wizard at editing the final product, you won't be seen as professional without the image of Hollywood. And even those guys are switching to lightweight gear and the same software we use! We're in a small barn in the Missouri Ozarks so we were social distancing before it was necessary. It's an old guy thing.

I was looking at one of these cheap camcorders but the electronic focus vs a mechanical focus is the game changer. I have an older JVC Evero that although it isn't a ultra 4K or even a 2.7 K it does do DVD quality at 29.9 frames a second and the zoom resembles the high dollar camera in this video. I was looking for a replacement and I'm glad I didn't buy one of these China specials. I did however find a brand new never used still in the box JVC Evero for $85 that was one step up from mine that also has a mechanical 40X zoom and as long as it's on a tripod the zoom works very well indeed. I may have to correct the color and the white balance when I edit down but for the money it's fine for my needs. This was a great video you made but most importantly it was informative. People need to avoid those fake 4K cameras. If they were put a mechanical zoom on those cheap camcorders they may have something impressive but that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

$600;will get a semi-reasonable optical zoom on a Chinese camera. I personally let the software do it, at least for the illusion I’m using a zoom, it’s reality is the Telephoto lens for the zoomed 😂footage and an illusion to show how it got there. Lol, I don’t have the optical zoom model because it doesn’t have the 4 inch touch screen which is important to me.

I recently bought a "Camcordy" camera on Amazon for $150 and I can vouch that it isn't the best quality. First, the 4k function freezes constantly, so I had to re-set to a lower resolution. And yeah, the zoom is substandard and so is the camera-shake in general. But its something to practice my editing skills with and the price is right for a new hobby. If I ever got to the level where I wanted to monetize my channel then the Cannon would def be on my wishlist.

If you are a professional user then getting a top of the line camcorder is important but if you are a complete amateur then you could get away with starting out with a 100 Dollar camcorder but may wish to get a slightly better one later on but for most amateurs spending between 300 to 500 dollars on a product that you may only use 3 to 4 times a year can work out to be an expensive outlay so budget ones become more appealing even though they are designed for very basic short films and still shots

Thx for the side by side. I totally love the expensive camera of course. But I bought the cheap one to try out and see if it’ll do what I need. I really want to film me painting, but also have a camera on me so I can talk to the viewers at the same time. I’m not at all tech savvy with cameras and doing the different looks. So I figure I’ll start with cheap. Really I’m not gonna be doing a lot of action. Or too much zoom in and out. I’ll see if I can get this to work and as I progress I may upgrade.

One thing comes through about the difference between the expensive Canon camcorder and the cheap generic Chinese camcorder is the exposure control the Canon has good exposure control where as the cheap generic Chinese camcorder obviously has little to no exposure control as the commentator said you get what you pay .There is one thing good about these cheap Chinese genetic camera's they offer consumers a choice of new affordable camera's where as before they either had to use their phones which the majority of people would do today or if people couldn't afford an expensive camera they had to buy second hand. The Japanese have largely abandoned the cheap affordable end of the camera market to the Chinese camera companies mainly because of smart phones, the quality of most Chinese made camera's probably ain't that great but give it time they will learn and catch up to the Japanese camera companies.

I just plain don’t have 3k at least at the moment for a Canon, that’s the obvious choice of course. I CAN get killer results from my $200 camera though. First I have specific cameras for specific shooting. I have a 5 year old Samsung NX mirrorless for my A shooting for several reasons. That’s what fits in my teleprompter correctly, then I use a portable G-story monitor for my monitor (that sounds obvious enough, lol), I don’t care which camera I am using, it’s going to have THE best SD money can buy, at least my money. I’ve seen 300-1000 SD’s which I’m sure rock better, but that’s out of my reach. I use a Go Pro 11 when I need solid stabilization, and have all the filters as does the NX. Now the $200 is a camcorder RX-200. Number one, Never use digital zoom! Period no matter what the quality of the camera. If I run into a situation I need to zoom, I’m using the Telephoto lens on the NX, I got an adapter for Canon lenses and my deceased father had a Canon Telephoto lens and that works great. Number two, NEVER use Auto! Which means using lighting and filters. There are so many horrible reviews for these cameras, mostly is just pure ignorance of how to use equipment. For $200 I have 4K, True 4K, Divinci Resolve tells me so. And here we are at number 3. A great Editor! Divinci Resolves color management is incredible. That’s how you make a $200 get the results of a 3k camera! Great memory card, manual settings, lighting and filters and Divinci Resolve. By the way the optical zoom of the Canon is a huge difference to digital zoom which should never ever be used so that’s how I do it. Ty for your video and of course I agree, go Canon if you can, however I can get the same results with a little more effort and using the tools you should have no Matter what is being used as your camera. The software just needs to work a little harder! Lol and one more thing, I don’t use the cameras sound for anything more than snap to match the Audio to Video. My videos are about Audio and even the Canon isn’t good enough for that on its own.

Picture quality is atrocious played back through TV with HDMI cable, not as shown on the QVC ad, if it looks too good to be true.....

    Cheap Camcorder VS Professional Camcorder!
the Professional Camcorder takes dv and thats hard to find and they are not at all stores and the dv gets eaten all the time it is a tape
and as they say in the real film making world if your going to shoot on tape get out its all digtal now no film maker will use tape today
Camcorders now take sd cards the way to go all film makers use this now this is the way to go
but she used a creepy cam and she didnt use a 4k Professional Camcorder
side by side a 4k Professional Camcorder would match up pretty well

Looks like I've got the same cheap DVR as you and definitely have the exact same tripod.
What I don't like about the cheap camera is there a green bias when using the camera itself. Connecting that camera to a HDMI cable and USB video card produces strange results. On an old HP laptop with AMD chip, the result will be similarly disappointing. Putting the same setup on a HP laptop with a Rizen 5 processor and the results are much improved. Same camera, three different results.
The microphone that comes with the camera is e-waste. Absolute junk.

A modern phone can often shoot better video than even the cannon in some instances, but then again, a modern phone costs around $1000 too, and still has many disadvantages in comparison. While image quality is still one of the most important things, there is a whole ecosystem in videography/cinematography that is important to consider that allows you to get the video and audio that is wanted. The same goes for phones and photography.

With 1000 dollars, use 800 on camera gear and 200 on a phone. Budget Phones are so good now, Xiaomi and Realme have excellent choices.

It's really dumb to expend 1200 dollars on a smartphone nowadays, especially if it is for the camera.

so you have to "test" if a 3100 dollar camcorder is better than a 100 dollar camcorder ? realy ? would you jump from a building to test if you can fly ? *headsmack*

I personally would not waste money on these very cheap camcorders,I recently got a Panasonic HC SD900 camcorder,10years old from Ebay, little used and almost like new for only a liittle more than this junk costs and it gives lovely 1080/60fps video, far better than this piece of crap.Stick to the recognised well known brands for decent quality video and don't end up being dissapointed

Okay but I’m not spending 3000 for a camera that is insane some people will spend that type of money for a camera that you could find 2,900 cheaper

Neither Camera is any good. I would return the Cannon and keep DVC until I found a better Camera than the Canon. Maybe a Sony 3ccd...

36M Wide means a 36 megapixel photo in a wide angle format. That would be a 8000 x 4500 resolution which is very unlikely for any $100 camera. It's most likely interpolated from a much lower resolution.
