www.ebay.com/itm/186859954041 Looks like not only CVS distributed these! Saw this identical unit, just lacking the CVS brand, pop up in my eBay recommended. Not sure how one would've gotten the video off of this... likely mail in service as the seller suggests, or perhaps CVS would've accepted a non CVS branded camera? Interesting regardless.
I still have one of these in a box in the closet. My dad bought it and did some kind of mod on it to get the footage off it via USB without having to return it to CVS. Pretty cool for its time.
Truly ridiculous piece of hardware you found. Really dig your presentation! The interlaced 4:3 face cam and proper HD closeup cam is a good combo. ps your hair looks really nice.
I have one from Walgreens. It's a much newer "Chinese Special" with modified firmware. The camera settings like resolution (and exposure I think) are locked out, and the usb connector is weird, but it otherwise works as standard.
@DavisMakesGames All things considered, it makes good photos! I just chopped the sheilding off a USB A connector off and soldered it to another USB A cable. Red-to-Red, Black-to-black, White-to-White, Green-to-Green. Should work. After ejecting the camera will ask if you want to format it's memory clean. How thoughtful!
oh wow. i just realized that i had one of these that was put into a shell very similar to this but it took a large style s.d card. i imagine it was just a recycled one of these that was modded for the s.d. and then put into a similar housing. the entire camera layout was the same but it was a larger shell. i loved that thing. i still have the pics i took with it. my grandmother got it off qvc for me back in the late 2000s or early 2010s
Eveready batteries are far worse than Duracells. Far worse, they have Carbon Zinc or Zinc Chloride in them, those chemicals can do some very serious damage.
P.S I couldn't make it through the whole thing... but I can see skipping through you never got it working. If you were to ship it to the UK I am willing to get this running for you and ship it back the corrosion is minimal and absolutely repairable. The case repair is down to you however, if you source a new one and steal the case etc. I'm offering this as I would like to know what the software on this looks like.
What an embarrassment! I really thought this video was going to do some sort of profane justice to the wonderful lofi camera the folks over at puredigital made almost 20 years ago now, but... really, I can't find anything encouraging to say about what you've done here. Even the smallest amount of googling or common sense before... just mutilating this thing would've revealed the "camerahacking" forum (now archived over on tapatalk) - there was a whole scene of people dedicated to reverse engineering this camera - you're absolutely not the first to have this idea. Maybe the most constructive thing I have to share is a suggestion that you put at least some amount of research or planning into a video before you make it, or maybe find a different part of the algorithm to hang around. As a technically inclined person who actually lived through this tech, I found this frustrating to (try to) watch, to say the very least. And some lemon juice would have cleaned that alkaline leak just fine. (no, it's not "acid"... AA batteries don't have "acid" in them, they have an alkaline, or basic, solution inside. You would in fact use [a mild] acid to properly clean it up...)
I realize I didn't do a great job here and I recognize that in the outro. "Incompetence" is in the thumbnail. And, sure, alkaline batteries do not have acid - but that is a whole lot quicker and easier to say than "It appears as though the potassium hydroxide electrolyte has leaked from these alkaline batteries🤓🤓", people still get the point.

You look like amalgamation of Michael Jackson and StyroPyro in the best way possible
Someone needs to make him a sammich, stat.
Wow. This was such a throwback. Remembering Kipkay made a video unlocking these with a Palm m100 to usb cable!
oh yea I remember those!
I was hoping someone else remembered this!

Even if it didn't work out, I found a new awesome channel to subscribe to and I fecking love your aesthetic.
Haven't seen this camera since the ancient Kipkay video on ripping files from one

16:42 Makes smartphone sensors look like full frame in comparison let alone 1 inch 😭
No smartphone sensors are 1 inch (25.4mm across)
16:42 That's a CMOS sensor, not CCD :)
Thanks for the correction. Was hard for me to tell on a sensor this tiny
At best , that can do 640*480 image, and 320*240 video.

Fascinating. Had no idea there were competing pharmacy camcorder brands. Might have to get one of those and pray I don't butcher it like the CVS one

The brutality of how you opened and handled that camera made me cringe all the way through.

its not really single use it would have been reused a lot of times by the store
I did mention this, as well as noting the camera I had seems to have been re-sold at least once already.

Yup, any carbon zinc battery eats through its case in a matter of years. I've cleaned up after those before and it sure isn't pretty
Your intro is phenomenal!
Thanks, I made it myself.
man i actually cant wait for this this looks sick.
I'm just _slowly collecting all the trans TH-camrs._ Subscribing to all of them.
Remeber me?
I remeber
When a rockstar geek lover comes from the past! :)
bro. immediately liked you the moment you started talking. immediately subscribed bro. i love these kinds of videos. you are awesome man
pure digital sold a similar unit as a non one time use camera also, it cost $99.99 and had a *flip* out usb connector
so you can guess that for the ROI to be profitable it needed to be sold 3 times, the manufacture cost was probably around $60
Yup,the Flip Video.
Great video! New subscriber

Bro looks like a mix of Robert Plant, Dave Mustaine and Kwebbelkop

Yep, was born around the time this camcorder was made.
@DavisMakesGames I swear there was nothing like getting photo mat pic back it was like a loto lol Sometimes it hit moste of the time it did not :D.
