I feel like an important factor was skipped over in tethering. That it's not just down the lane but also across it. They move towards bot river you shift towards top. It's like putting an invisible stick between your owner with a pivot in the middle. Now this matters more in certain matchups, like those with skills that get blocked by minions. Also ties into positioning your opponent towards your jungler to help set up ganks properly.

@@TheBanana202 it makes perfect sense in retrospect but this is the first time ive encountered it by name in all the years ive played this fucking game
Another concept that goes along with tethering is wiggling. It's the act of clicking back and forth at the edge of your opponent's zone of influence (or for the range of a specific ability you think they will use), trying to bait them into using said ability but giving you enough time to dodge out of the way. (Also, it makes your movement more unpredictable in general)
Input buffering was a surprise. Never knew about that. I always cancelled my AA when I tried to flash + AA + skill + ignite, but now on practice tool I'm executing this mechanic perfectly (took 30 min of practice). For those who know foggedftw2, he do that with tryndamere with E + flash + AA + ignite and never cancelled a single AA, because he uses input buffering mechanic and I never noticed that. One good example of input buffering in toplane is when you are playing against Irelia and the minions near you are low. You know she will q to them so you stand right next to them (if you're a meele champion) and input buffer your aa to hit her as soon as the q hits.
You should have touched upon flash when it comes to spacing as flash can distort the zones of safety when you try to avoid a gank for instance. Other than that, great video!

how can people even know how big or small the threat zone is. Yeah if it is like 615 range then stay out of it but like how am i suppose to know whats far enough outside 615 range???
I use my champions own abilities as a gauge. For example, I know Morgana's Ult range is 625, which is very convenient because Morgana's ult lights up when someone is in range. If it lights up, I know Annie only needs to come a little closer in order to harass me. Obviously abilities that light up when someone is in range are quite rare, but you can see the range on your abilities if you hover your cursor over them. If you know the numerical range values of your own abilities and the opponent's abilities in proportion to them, you can estimate their area of influence.
Just getting used to it. I knew exactly how far i had to stand vs blitz before his range buff on q from experience but when they changed it I was getting pulled a lot more. Now I relearned it
Yikes, I'm 400lp and did not know about input buffering XD Maybe because I'm jungle main idk? xD Don't anyone dare to say these are for low elo only! :D
I have a question. When you input buffer you start moving towards the enemy. Wont this mess me up if im running away from say talon and want to input buffer my q(annie) to stun him if he jumps. Won't I start walking towards him?
Aatrox's zone of influence is interesting. You need to understand what he wants to do to get it. If he has passive, his auto has a higher range. If he is lvl 2 with both e and q off CD his zone of influence is q1 + max e range. If he has Q3 up and no e or w, his zone of influence is his max flash distance + the radius of his Q3.
Input buffering was new to me in the video; it would also be helpful to clarify on using input buffering with more advanced keybinds including smart cast with/without the "Quick Cast with Indicator".
That input buffering looks seriously super strong.. I understand why I'm in low ello, i never even knew this was a thing. However, i feel like there's one thing completelly missing in this concept i was waiting all video to be mentioned, and this would probably mostly apply for melee champions but stil, it's the mobility. As simple as movement speed (whether boots difference or simple base move-speed difference) could deny you the ability to tether properly, because enemy zone of influence would catch up to you with his extra movespeed, or it's also the mobility spells, oriana can speed herself with W and catch you through tethering to land Q safely, lb can W closer to QE on you. As I said i believe this would mostly apply to melee champions, since their ZoIs are gonna be much smaller and thus more volatile, with stuff like garen or sett Q that speeds you up and allows you to break even the most perfect tethering. I know calculating all of that would be too difficult for one video, and too difficult to keep in mind in-game for most low ello players, but you should at least mention that this aspect of it is present, just so people don't have to find out the hard way Otherwise great job, love your vids
With the input buffering, using the same example how would you play that from the leblancs pov if you're looking to get big trades? The simple answer would be to just q, but there are also some champs where you can't just do that on
Very good video, explained a lot that even after a year of gameplay wasn't self-evident to me. In particular, while I totally organically picked up the idea of how spacing, tethering, and threat zones work just at an intuitive level, I had no idea input buffering could work this way.
It only works with summoner spells; for instance as lb you cannot q w someone if you're not in q range (vs q flash which works even if you're not in range) basically using summoner spells does not cancel your last input. Only spell i can think of that works the same way is cassiopeia e. You can right click on the ground then press e, she'll throw her e then move to that location
got a question about this tho, if u got range disadvantage on auto attack, u cant actually trade back like u can do with abilities as u do when the ability is on cd, so what u can do about cait vs vayne as vayne?
Also for auto spacing on ad carries, if you play the champ with less auto attack range, you can try to attack the enemy adc every time they attack a minion. Treat auto attacks like spells with very short cd.
what if the minion wave is 60% towards their side and orianna is standing in it zoning annie? does annie just eat a qw for every cs if she cant bait ori spells by wiggling in and out of max range?
Ok but about auto spacing, you didn't cover what to do when you are the one with lower range, I'm a Draven one trick and have a HUGE disadvantage in the current Meta since almost all champions have higher range than me, what should I do in this scenario?
You'll generally get a feeling for it pretty quickly during the laning phase. e.g. if you're facing ori vs annie and you get hit by annie q you know that her range is at least the distance you were at during that time. That said, Annie is one of the most simple champions in the game in terms of range and most champions are not as trivial.
good point, its probably harder to do it on bot tho, cuz its more complicated. specially for supports, because every support works differently.. for example, pyke can e to get in range for his hook, if that makes sence..
@@namonad3 its kind of same for mid lane. did any of the things mentioned in this video changed in last 5 years? not really, people just didnt really know about them when the game came out.
@@lackoflazy2956 you still have to tether around Pyke's e q range, but usually your support will body block the q thus you only tether around the e range
as melee basically you want to tether until you want to all-in. wait for him to come forward to harass, but instead of moving back out of his spell range, you unpredictably move towards him. If done right he won't react fast enough and ends up in your spell range. You then all-in the poor bastard (for instance, Zed's R is pretty easy to avoid if you stay out of range, but if you manage to trick your opponent to mis-manage his tethering, you can get within range to open with R and use W to chase further). the notion of influence and tethering is pretty complicated once you have movement speed diff, and that's why yumu is so key on melee, it mess up their positioning from the movement speed diff.

Almoust everything was known to me BUT the imput buffering is super usefull
If a champ that has more zone of influence moves forward when your minion is going to die. Will you move back or accept the damage for a last hit?
you gotta aim for last hitting plus harassing u take 2 for 1
such a good content. Thank you!
I love these Advices gg guys
Basically, if you are in a range disadvantage, you can't initiate trades/fights, you can only react, because by the time the enemy is in range of your abilities, you have lost 1/3 of your HP...
How do you learn to visualise the zone of influence if you're not a robot?
play a lot and even better play few games (might be normals) of champs that you have problem with their range so you can learn them
how i know where to stand from my opponent maximum range
I'm around D4-D2 and didn't knows most of these things wow
I just tried Buffering Diana's Q which im mainning and no1 can escapes! Thanks guys, awesome video as always!
Here's a screenshot (imgur.com/a/pJC6XRx) of Annie's in-game indicators on Q and auto. The larger one is auto-attack range (edge-to-edge vs centre-to-centre). The ranges in the video @1:06 show them to be the same, and really closer to like, 900 rather than 625 LUL
btw although it says annies Q and aa range is 625, the Q range is actually lower
What happened to the old courses ? yasuo, TF, Syndra. the site used to be better i think
I didnt know that input buffer :O everyday i leanr something new with you guys!!! that explain why some people have "Crazy reactions" to my aggro now i see its just input buffer xD
I didn't know about Auto Spacing. Knew the concept, not the name. Also, didn't know about Tethering. HAD NO IDEA about Input buffering XD
The zone of influence of late game rfc Senna is in the next Galaxy
Input buffering - check, already do this,
Spacing - what’s that?
Walks into turret.
This is usefull i'm from plat to GM realquick .
- Explains concepts of spacing and tethering
- First champion example: Annie
Did LS write the script for this video?
About the last point, how do you counter something using a skillshot?
yasuo wind wall :V
If you mean the leblanc vs annie thing on a champion with skill shot cc: You try to predict it and hope you're right.... Yeah, it's a lot harder.
Great video as always, but I think input buffering is too advanced of a concept needed to climb. If you can abuse the first few tips, should be enough to reach Diamond, imo. Input buffering may actually cause you to mistime your abilities.
That's just my 2 cents.
