    I was just looking at this game on the PS App and in the description is this-
    “An epic sci fi adventure that no VR gamer should miss out on playing.
    -PSVR2 Without Parole”
    Imagine my surprise seeing my man’s quote in a description of a game on the PS App! Really cool to see you recognized!

    I'm amazed that there are some people complaining that this game is not worth it for $30 because you only get 6-7 hours of game play. The developer is also apparently pushing out an update that will have all the main characters lines re-recorded to help feel less flat there, so that is good!

    • @dagripper77
      @dagripper77 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Most people in general don't understand value. Movies are half this price (depending on where you go) and not nearly as long or immersive but they don't complain.

    • @twitcherthesingleplayergamecat
      @twitcherthesingleplayergamecat ปีที่แล้ว +11

      We're still in a world where people project their flat-screen values into the VR marketplace. You pay $60 for a 100+ hour open world flat game, ergo people think that a $30 game should have 50+ hours.
      This is clearly broken logic. The VR marketplace is still tiny compared to flat. Return on investment is much lower (indeed, devs of some of the very best indie VR games have literally not earned even one dollar of profit from their titles!).
      Simply attempting a linear singleplayer campaign (as opposed to, say, a roguelite approach which is easier to develop for increased replayability) is a brave thing in this field, and if the 6-7 hours of gameplay are as fun as Bryan suggests in this review, I'd say that represents great value for money! 😁👍

    • @ShadisDemarco
      @ShadisDemarco ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@twitcherthesingleplayergamecat Agree on you with the points you made. I also look at it and there are plenty of flat screen games that come out for $60-$70 and give you around the same amount of play time. Most action FPS games are right around that mark. So who knows, maybe people just like to complain! 😃

      Cool, so how long should we keep this low standard? If this was 10/10 game for 5 hours than maybe it’s worth it, but an average 5 hour experience. Screw that as consumers we should expect better and vote with our wallets.

    I said this at launch when Mura was the hot button topic and now I'll say it again now that reprojection and reprojection blur is the hot topic. There is something to be said about the power of suggestion, as in, if someone suggest that there are graphic issues to be on the look out for then you will be more likely to look out for and see the issue they are talking about. The opposite is true if you go in not looking for those issues at all, most will not find the issue. So just like Mura, i find that reprojection blur is something that most people will not notice unless they go looking for it. The question then becomes, well how do you go looking for it.
    Well I have found that using the right analog stick to turn is a clear way to induce reprojection blur, more importantly using the right stick to turn at a high speed. Since reprojection is a form of motion interpolation, it is designed to make movement seem faster than it actually is. This interpolation of the image works fine when you are not moving very fast but when you are moving fast and the image on screen is reprojected to be even faster then blur is bound to occur. I have found that the image blur is managed better when either the player turns in the real world (thus eliminating the controller accelerated turning speed) or with controller turning speed is reduced so that the accelerated turn from the controller doesn't cause the image to become blurry temporarily.
    We must understand that all things blur in fast motion and like motion blur in a flat game the effect is subtle at low framerate (30fps) but overly agrgressive at higher framerate (60fps and beyond). While the ideal is to simply turn it off completely, in instances where turning it off is not option, reducing the speed at which you turn does reduce the amount of blur needed to blend the reprojected frames into the native frames thus creating a smoother overall experience. Personally I find that lower turn speeds can reduce reprojection blur and artifacts altogether, and since there are no twitch shooters in VR it actually feels better to play since it simulates more of a natural turning speed than the normal controller accelerated turn speed.

    • @corey_massey
      @corey_massey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@minners71
      If you must use the controller sticks to turn adjust for the fact that controllers have analog stick acceleration and increasing the speed at which the game turns increases the amount of blur produced by reprojection. Its crazy that this doesn't strike most as common knowledge since games have been employing motion blur and controller sensitivity since forever but it seems that in VR, people need to have it spelled out....objects viewed in fast motion will appear blurry.

    • @GlaciusDreams

      Then if you are someone who is bothered by reprojection blur a simple solution would be to turn down your turning speed. It will dramatically reduce reprojection blur and artifacts.

    Great review. You do an excellent job to talk about types of game play, difficulty, graphics, length, etc. allowing the viewer to make a well informed decision.
    Why people feel the need to tell you your opinion is wrong if it doesn’t align with theirs is ridiculous. People can be so sensitive to a stupid numbered score. Just know there are still some that value diversity and subjectivity of thought to a number.

They want to pit me against other TH-camrs or claim that I'm taking money from developers for positive reviews - and most of these people haven't even played the game themselves. This was a 7/10 for me.
    It's mostly good fun - and for an indie game, it's pretty high quality - especially the graphics were great.
    You'll spend most of your time walking around to these pretty new areas shooting.
    Combat isnt great though - at times i felt like i was just shooting balloons in a fairground.
    There's some other elements for variety (climbing, swimming, a littie resource collection to upgrade), but they are fairly shallow & minimal.
    Decent fun for a short length shooter tho & a very good indie game.
    I'll get their next one if they step up a few areas.

    Thanks Bryan. Great review. Although I do have a question, which relates to a problem I never really expected to exist until I bought tales from the galaxy's edge; which left me a little upset.
    As someone who is massively into shooters, TFtGE left me underwhelmed. Most of the weapons didn't have any sights and the one(s) that did, aiming properly using them didn't work particularly well. It felt as if the entire gun play was built around shooting from the hip, something that I'm not a fan of.
    My question... How does the gunplay feel in Hubris compared to TFtGE? I see the pistol has illuminated front posts and rear sights, and that there are optical enhancements. Can you aim guns using these sights like I'd expect?

      Hmmm. They're all pretty different. Journey to Foundation is VERY narrative heavy so be prepared for long conversations and dialogue trees. Red Matter 1 is a great puzzle game but there's no action at all. Red Matter 2 addresses that and adds stealth, shooting, and platforming. Vertigo 2 is a great action game, more shooting than anything else (but still has framerate issues throughout). And Hubris has great climbing and shooting, good balance without too many puzzles. So while they're all good it comes down to what you're looking for. And for me personally I'd say Red Matter 2 is the best of the ones you listed, Hubris after that, Red Matter 1, Vertigo 2, then Journey at the bottom. Just keep in mind I haven't finished Journey to Foundation yet though, I'll get to it soon enough! :D

    climbing in this thing seems bugged as hell, I dont know if you guys are having this issue, but my guy keeps climbing on top of things when he should be swinging from below and it keeps glitching me into the walls making it very hard to climb which this thing seems to have a lot of. I just wanted to run around and shoot some stuff and have a good time, its so hard trying to find a game like that these days, everything has to be vraf which half the time doesn't even work properly and it seems developers spend most of their resources on that instead of making an actual fun game. Im going to go back in and try to glitch myself through all these nightmare climbing sections, the combat so far has been ok I guess. Again, it looks great, the tech is there but man I dont know about the games, I think vr1 had much better games, I feel like we are going backwards here.

      @@WithoutParole ok, so for some positives, besides graphics, gun play is fun, I like the reloading, it gives you the feel of manual reloading without all the clunkyness and will it/wont it work moments of other manual reloading games, I would hope all shooters use this system moving forward but of course they wont. Storing items is easy, I think its the easiest over the shoulder system Ive used yet, not a pain in the ass at all, and grabbing stuff besides ledges sometimes is nice an easy. Running! it has it! and shooting! running and shooting gangster style? yes! If there was no shitty climbing in this game I would agree with the 9.
