I think the garbage(gray blocks) are based on the lines sent by other players and I think you can clear the incoming(not the ones in space) by clearing lines
There's a thing called badge levels, since she was at a huge disadvantage in her badge level compared to everyone else, clearing 2 lines meant blocking 8 that were sent to her.
