Just a gentle reminder, this is the same man who managed to play persona 5 in such a way that enabled him to not only perfectly max all his stats in one run but also get every single confidant to max literally on the last day AND managed to get a perfectly max stat persona all on New Game yet is brought to his knees by the funny line game

This is possibly the greatest advertising for this game. It's like those ragebaiting mobile game ads where they do puzzles wrong - on purpose - to frustrate people into downloading the game and doing it right. This is S-Tier gameplay.

I just managed to beat the story mode for this game, and I managed to do the last level on my first try (though it was absolutely down to the wire, with only 3 lines available at 13 speed)

its gotten to a point where i stop being angry and i get genuinely curious and in awe of his tetris gameplay, like i wanna study this
I often play this game in vr to destress and relax, so when I saw RT was playing it, I was not expecting to be the most stressed I have ever been.
I've never felt more mentally stressed and pained than when watching this video, I play a LOT of tetris, and watching everything within this video physically hurts me

Honestly given how fucking sporadic and absolutely asinine most of his movements got near the end it fully seems like he might not have been, not in that he was just faking, but that his body was being violently possessed by something evil and he had no way to stop it other than to cry out at the Tetris game 💀
Between this and Rhythm Heaven, it seems like the theme for this year so far is Daniel actively picking fights with his own anxiety.

As an experienced modern Tetris player, this video is hell. I am in indescribable pain. 10/10 content.
I want to remind everyone that this is the same man who did a breath of the wild master mode permadeath run on his second try and the amount of anxiety from that series does not even compare to Daniel playing Tetris

Man, RT really is a youtube for never playing Tetris before. But him playing Tetris Effect, probably the most beautiful Tetris game, is such a youtube.
That scream of triumph at the end was the most cathartic thing I have ever heard. Arguably the most beautiful moment ever captured on video

The two biggest tips everybody should know for Tetris, is to think one move ahead when placing blocks, setting up further line clears, and holding the current piece whenever you physically cannot place a piece somewhere without creating huge holes, or when you move a piece incorrectly and can't double back
This is the first time where I've actively cussed at RT, not for any malice or hate, but just out of despair and heartbreak this man has put me through these 29 mins.

Honestly, you did significantly better than I would have expected someone to do their first time playing. Doubly so given that you fell into the trap of trying to create places for straight line pieces.
I've never seen Tetris Effect gameplay before, heard that it was flashy, but I did NOT expect one of its main menu screens to be our real life galactic supercluster, Laniakea.
From ‘The music in this game is so good’ to ‘I’m gonna throw my controller out the window’ is some seriously relatable raging energy 😂
I like how Dan is doing okay, then TH-cams up, and then it cuts to his entire board filled with bad decisions and mistakes.

Something to note about this game, in the XBONE version there is a setting that turns off rumble.

RT playing Tetris gives me anxiety (and I can't play Tetris to save my life either, so it's not even like I have any idea on how to do it 'better').
as someone who plays a ton of tetris its always interesting watching these videos of new players trying it out. theres a lot of stuff experienced players see that new players would never see. thanks for the vid!

I've never been so angry watching someone play a game while simultaneously completely relating to them at the same time. I've fucked up the same ways so many times while playing Tetris 99.
RT's skill level is so high, it loops back to zero. That or he has fumbly, buttery hands and a bottle of panic, when he needs to mess up.
Seriously it's impressive how well he fumbles the pieces.
This puts the rumble in the rumble tumble games.
There's a version of Tetris called 'Bastet' which always picks the worst possible piece.
Dan should play that next.
As someone who has barely played any Tetris, I think you did a great job Dan. You may have been panicking, but you did it. You passed several levels. This is your first time playing the game. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
My first exposure to Tetris was as a bonus game on Star Wars disk. At least as far as I remember, there was no tutorial or rules, but there was an opening cutscene. The opening cutscene explained that the Tetrominos home planet was being destroyed, and they needed to build a bridge to a new world.
So when I got into the game my first thought was that I had to stack them up to reach the edge of the board so they could get to a new world. Every time I did that of course, the game would end and it said I lost. My next thought was that I had to fill up the whole board to make a complete bridge. Every time I did that though, a row would clear and my "progress" would be deleted. After swapping between those methods for a few hours I quit. I never ended up replaying because I didn't understand how I was supposed to build a bridge, never realizing that making a bridge wasn't actually a part of the gameplay at all.
Also it's funny he mentioned Frodo and Sam because I just started watching Rings of Power.
This was the wrong video to pick to fall asleep while watching because now I’m wide awake and a deflating balloon of frustration and helplessness.
"I Never Played Tetris. I can never play it again." I saw with my eyes, noticing that Tetris Effect was on the thumbnail. "Yeah, I could see how playing one of the most beautiful video games ever made would make it difficult to go back to any other Tetris game." I thought.... then I started watching the video and realized. "Oh, that's not what he meant at all."
I have to say, this has certainly been the most... interesting Tetris gameplay I think I've ever seen.

As someone who's semi-decent at Tetris, and as someone who's favorite Tetris is Effect, the amount of times I watched Daniel panic on where to decide to put a piece and then place it in the absolute worst spot he could have put it made me clench my teeth in anger so hard that I have to see the dentist tomorrow.
The amount of times I wanted to yell to put a piece to the side during the first level my God. I understand he didn't know the control but ughh
I know this might blow you mind Daniel, but back in the day we didn't have that visual help to know exactly where the piece would land and how it would fit... and we liked it! We also didn't have Miku so it evens out.

He keeps trying to force pieces to fit. He needs it to complete the row so he keeps trying to jam circle pieces into square holes and vice versa. That's why he's putting pieces in the worst places. He's trying to force them to be something they're not because he needs them to play the part.

As someone who according to my friends "spends too much time playing tetris" it's very entertaining watching you play so slowly.

The calming music and beautiful effects contrasted with Daniel's stress and misplacement of Tetris blocks is exactly how I expected this to play out lmao.

@@anko_dtm I understand the thinking method in chess but never passed beginner level. It's like I'm knitting a tight blanket with the pieces, my ADD kicks in and rips holes in it. There's always that one piece or attack I blocked 5 moves ago and my brain decides that means it's been dealt with. How do you do it?
He's really good. He see the ghost of the piece being in the exact position that would be the most benefit and he says, "I don't need it" and throws. For us ❤️

The few times I've noticed he seems to have planned a move ahead, when the ghost fills the spot he loses track of it and fumbles the piece into another opening.

Phew, he nearly put a block in a fairly okay but not optimal position. But with his lightning-fast reflexes, he managed to spin it into the worst possible position instead.

@@chee.rah.monurB I play Tetris with both controller and keyboard, I definitely prefer using a controller. It feels more intuitive to me use my thumb to do the actions instead of my other fingers

This game is quite literally MADE to be calming, to make you feel calm and nice, and somehow Daniel makes it the most stressful game he's ever played.

@@theuncalledfor Tetris can be a very calming game for players who enjoy the general gameplay and are fine/used to the high speeds, The Tetris effect teams goal was to amplify this effect via visual auditory feedback.
(it also is highly satisfying when you finally get good at clearing rows which this change in visual auditory feed back as well as the "zone" mechanic helps to enhance)
I’m the top ranked player for both my local area and the area next to it in Tetris, and oh my LORD this was painful to watch but like, in an affectionate way. I love that RT can randomly optimize and do really well in games (Persona, Stardew etc) but something like TETRIS he struggles with, that is MY streamer. What a TH-cam

Fun fact: There are canonically characters in tetris!
If you go all the way back, there are human-like names for the blocks. A bit more recent, there's a team of astronauts named after the block-shapes thanks to Puyo-Puyo Tetris
Some more obscure games like Tetris Battle Gaiden and Magical Tetris Challenge also have characters besides ðe Tetraminos.
I am pretty sure the jeopardy thing about named blocks was fake so the earliest Tetris character I can remember is Tetris Plus with the archeologist who keeps walking into spiked ceilings.
As someone who has participated in multiple tournaments for Tetris I got to applaud you for jumping in headfirst with effect. It is a difficult enough first Tetris game but you did pretty well with it. Hope you enjoyed it.
Genuine question, how is “difficulty” in Tetris games measured? I wouldn’t have thought any one game was harder than the other, unless the blocks just fall faster or something like Tetris 99.
@@melofelo4484 it's just drop speed and sometimes pieces being given to you in a different order or completely randomly
Not all tetris games give you that preview of where it’s going. or the ability to hold a piece for later.
@@melofelo4484 there are many ways to increase difficulty in Tetris. Most of the time, the falling speed increases, and if it already lands instantly, then the delay needed to lock will decrease, as well as the spawn delay. (lock delay defaults to 500 ms, spawn delay at 100 ms, which is almost unnoticeable for a new player)
There also exists pentominoes, which are more complicated than tetrominoes.
Then there's adding opponents that send garbage.
Then other unique stuff like having to clear a perfect clear puzzle, or get as many combos as you can with a 4wide setup.

I have never heard RT so excited. That „YESS!“ was filled with triumph, euphoria and every bit of pent up rage that he had. Truly incredible that after everything, Hatsune Miku was the one who almost did him in.

Tetris effect vr was an ascending experience the first time I played it. It’s insane how beautiful they made that game.
Seriously, they injected at LEAST 15 pounds of some kind of drugs into the code or something, the game looks AMAZING

Regular Tetris Effect is a very good Tetris game. Tetris Effect in VR is one of my favorite gaming experiences period. It really is transcendental
I finally got it and it's amazing!!!! Mind you the end of level effects are painful but everything else is gorgeous

As someone who played competitive Tetris, seeing everything in my head and how it's supposed to line up, then seeing RT's way of playing it really makes you understand how the coach in losing football team feels like.
