  • UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has rejected Ireland's proposal to send back asylum seekers to the UK.
Emergency legislation for a new policy to return migrants to the UK is set to be discussed by Irish officials in response.
Sunak claims that the rise in migrants crossing into Ireland from the UK, shows that his controversial Rwanda policy is working.
Britain's Rwanda policy will see asylum seekers who have arrived in the UK illegally after 1 January 2022, possibly sent to Rwanda. The Supreme Court ruled that the scheme was unlawful, but a bill was then introduced declaring Rwanda a 'safe country'.
