Hello one and all, and welcome back to another Quick play video. I'm always looking for a good punch em up, when it comes to videogames. Which is why, I've decided to play Double Dragon for the Sega Master System. Being an Arcade port means that it has pretty much almost everything included and is a far different animal than any version I have tackled before , on other systems. The objective however, remains the same, and that is to rescue Marion by punching and kicking your way across 4 levels full of martial arts ruffians, who just want to hinder your progress, by any means necessary. This is a really good version of Double Dragon although, it did take me a few minutes to adapt to this particular versions style as the NES and Game Boy versions control very differently. However, I will say that Punches and kicks should only be done to a minimum, as these enemies are smarter than the average bloke and bird on the street, and will menacingly stalk you, so I would advise using a plethora of flying kicks and in game tricks to help improve your progress.
Although, it's not a Halloween, spooky type of game, You will see a few paranormal things happening in the game which I could not believe I managed to capture during this random game Play video.
Anyway, i really hope you all enjoy this video and Happy Halloween!
Very cool dude, I do enjoy this version. In fact, it reminded me of when I first got my master system and I borrowed a bunch of games off Bedgell (which I think weren’t actually his, I think they were from the kids at his school 😂) but this was one of them. I remember there was Golden Axe and Bonanza Brothers too, but I have a distinct memory of getting up early on a Saturday morning and playing Double Dragon, and just hearing the music in your vid really took me back! It was cool coz it was my first actual console that was mine, and I remember the relief of having games load instantly after years with my C64, ha ha!
I got my own copy of this at some point although it was cart only, I never had the box, but I think the reason we liked the master system version is that it had 2 player mode and the NES version didn’t. I think people have hacked it into that game now though, I seem to remember reading about it! But I have Double Dragon 2 on the NES which was good.
Awesome video mate, that was a totally weird thing that happened in the background at the end of the stage with the dude going through the cliff face! Pretty cool and interesting, definitely some spooky goings on! 😂
Thank you so much Dibbs! Lol so you borrowed the games off Bedgel, who had borrowed them off of other kids I love it! Ive heard a lot about Bonanza Bros. It looked quite innovative for the time. Golden Axe is a pretty good port, I just wish they would have put Tyris and Gilius in the game. Yes indeed, I know the pains of the C64 very well, we all had to suffer and risk games not loading, just so we could play a game. Cartridge based systems really were a godsend after that ordeal.
That's right. I think the reason was that the developers working on DD for the NES, apparently weren't that experienced yet and couldn't quite figure out how to implement 2 player. It's crying out for a 2 player mode and it was such a shame it wasn't put in. Even the Game Boy version, I remember as a kid looking at the box of Double Dragon and it said you could link up the Game Boys and have 2 player. I thought, it was going to be like a proper 2 player mode. Apparently, it just has that 1 on one fighting mode that the NES already has. I'm very relieved to hear that someone has actually hacked the game and put it in as it just seems like a given.
Yeah it was very spooky indeed! I started out saying, "oh this is not going to be a horror title" but saw the game do some very ghostly things' firstly with the flickering and then with that enemy just moving slowly through the wall. I bet he drinks Carling Black Label! Thank you as always for watching Dibbs, it's very much appreciated. I'm going to watch yours and Bedgel's latest vid, now Ive got a wee bit of time!
I must’ve played double dragon so many times in its various iterations but for the life of me I couldn’t remember what it looked like!! Weird isn’t it?! Maybe cos it blurs into other beat em ups. Lovely seeing it again! I CAN remember that I had a double dragon watch - a game n watch style lcd game that I adored. It was terrible as a game obvs but it was SO COOL!!!!! - bedgell
Yeah, totally! I think, with the amount of beat em ups emerging at the time, plus with the plethora of ports, it's understandable to forget what it looks like. I always have to kind of ease myself in to each one I play, as they are all slightly different control wise.
Oh yes, the Double Dragon watch. I remember seeing it in, I think, in the index catalogue shop. Man that takes me back! I liked how much effort went into the artwork. It made me feel like i had the whole game in the palm of my hands. Those Watch LCD games were pretty limited, that's for sure. I remember I had a Batman one back in the day. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch Bedgell. I really appreciate it!
This was the one I played. I love it.
That's brilliant to hear! Yeah, it's a cracking game. I had played so much of the other versions. I forgot how good this one is. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment!
