The one I have belonged to my dad. (rest his soul). This came standard in the large console Magnavox that my parents bought circa 1970. It contained a Micromatic turntable on one end, the AM/FM stereo receiver in the center, room for records, and the reel to reel on the opposite end. The wooden cabinet alone weighed several hundred pounds. Got mine working again after about 30 years of non operation.

One thing I don't know if you know this or not...the studio recorders don't have pressure pads but indeed the supply reel applies back pressure. By taking the reels off and activating the guide switch both reels turn in opposite directions. It actually does that in all modes. Pretty neat stuff.

Your Magnavox reel to reel reminds me a lot of my Panasonic RS-760s reel to reel also from 1968. The speed switch and control switch especially. Probably a re-badge.

Made by Sony for Magnavox. The three styles of the 1968 Magnavox Imperial line incorporated this tape deck as an option. French, Contemporary, and Agean. These cabinets were about 6 feet long and weighed seemingly as much as a spinet piano!

This is neither Sanyo nor Magnavox (who never made their own recorders). It was made by Panasonic and is identical to the model sold under their brand.

Yup I noticed my Panasonic reel to reel looked sorta similar. That’s why!

I used replacement parts, mainly the idler wheels from a Panasonic RS-766US to repair my 1K0884RUN2. Most parts in the Panasonic are identical. I got great sound from both the Magnavox and Panasonic.

It might be a single-motor tape deck, but it's a pretty stout motor. It spins that capstan up FAST. Most open reel machines I've used spin the capstan up the moment you turn on the machine (and the cooling fan is driven by that same motor).
If you ever come across a mono tape, you're going to run into one of the quirks of open-reel.
If you play a mono tape on a 4-track stereo machine like yours, you're going to hear two very different things from your speakers. The right speaker will be playing the right track normally, but the left speaker is going to be playing audio from the opposite side of the tape... BACKWARDS.
This is because for some reason, the standard for open-reel lays the tracks out in a fashion that interleaves with the tracks of the opposite direction. If we imagine the tape positioned vertically, the tracks would be laid out:
    1R-2L-1L-2R.
That's the purpose of those track selector switches on your machine. They're for compatibility with mono tapes.
Unfortunately, this means prerecorded stereo tapes can NOT be played back on mono machines.
Cassette does not suffer from this problem, because its tracks are laid out differently: 1R-1L-2L-2R. Thus there is complete intercompatibility with stereo and mono players and tapes.

I had one made by Voice of Music, my brother got it somewhere and gave it to me. In longer have it as I had no use for today. My first one a portable version I found at a sale in the 80's, not sure why we bought it.

Just to let you know. That isn't a Maganavox. Its a Panasonic reel to reel with a Maganavox label on it.

I told you the TH-cam copyright Nazis would get you for playing the steam train sound effect!!! They are absolutely insane!!!
Also-btw, London, the label that released the stereo sampler tape, was The Rolling Stones’ American label in the 60s before they started their own label, Rolling Stones records. In other words, they were the Stones’ Capitol records (the Beatles’ American label).

Panasonic/National made some of these machines and were re-branded.

The larger diameter tape on supply reel is easier to thread.
