This was masterfully shot and put together. Tim: not just stunning base but the best psycho killer smirk with the short haircut, grey streak, and lighting from above to give him dark shadows under his brows, etc. The guy the other inmates give a wide birth to out in the exercise yard. Plus they play with the audience with those height markings behind them. Adam racking the shotgun was my favorite effect.
Ring of Fire Home Free featuring Avi (Pentatonix), Mayday, When a man loves a woman, Unchained Melody (Austin's Cover), Misty Mountain Peter Hollins ft Tim Foust (Bass from Home Free)
@@DennisKovacich Reporter to Tim... So is it true that you can hit the lowest bass note of all bass singers? Tim replies... Uh yeah, then drops it with that grin!😆 Reporter drops the mic!!!🤯
HF is usually true to the original, even if they sometime slow it down, or speed it up a nudge, but allways make a cover their own. If you listen to John Mayer's "In the blood", and then HF's cover of it, you get it (and imo, HF's is way better ;) )
Very good job. and you are right...this version was more light hearted where Johnny Cash had a very serious vibe to it. One thing about Home Free is they are very creative in their videos. The arrangements for the videos are always top notch!! The guys can be very humorous as shown in "All about that Bass" and the "Butts Remix"
They often add some bits to fill in where the original songs had instrumental breaks. You can hear that in Go Rest High On That Mountain, as well as on 9 to 5, and many others.
Thanks for the reaction! Other great Home Free songs worth checking out are; Helplessly Hoping, I Can't Outrun You, Snow Globe, and American Pie with Don McLean & the USAF.
I just found your channel through this! Went back and checked in on your Man of Constant Sorrow reaction(and saw that you have great taste in tv shows 😊) You asked in the first for info on their background, and a bit about the styles they do. I know you got many extensive comments, but here’s one more : ) Founding: They were founded by brothers Chris and Adam Rupp in Mankato, Minnesota when they were in college, and found success with three of the guys you see today. They were on The Sing-Off and won(I think the year after Pentatonix did) and were(well, are) unique for their country-leaning sound! Chris eventually left to pursue other music(on good terms) and was replaced with Adam Chance(called Chance) who is in this video. Also, fans of their’s are called Home Fries : ) Members: Tim Foust: bass - easy to identify, but he has shoulder-length brown hair which he cut recently, now he has a gray streak he calls Bonnie - They found him through networking, he was singing for other a capella groups, and after he joined recorded a solo album, several songs from which Home Free has done versions of. He also writes and co-writes for them. Rob Lunquist: second tenor - beard with glasses - He is the second longest currently involved member, also from Minnesota Austin Brown: high tenor - curlyish brown-reddish hair - They found him when both him and them were performers on a cruise ship Adam Rupp: beatboxer - easy to identify, but has blondish hair that’s straight, and long in the past, but recently short Adam Chance(called Chance): current baritone - short, dark hair and beard - he used to sing bass for Streetcorner Symphony, another group that competed on The Sing-Off, now he takes over bass when Tim sings lead Chris Rupp: past baritone - bald or wearing a cowboy hat - you’ll see him in older videos Music background: All of them have formal music training, and all but Tim have degrees related to music - Adam has no singing training, but has a degree in trumpet performance - Tim, well um, used to sing tenor in high school, but... still uses that upper range though! Austin studied theatrical performance, and was singing without his accent, but they asked if he’d like to join with it back 😂 They’ve featured his background a few times having him sing “Bring Him Home” from Les Mis live : ) They used to sing pop/soul, but started working on their country sound, and really solidified it when Tim joined. They also used to perform constantly, about 250 shows a year, but after The Sing-Off their record-deal + awareness of their group was enough to help them build a fan-base, and now they create incredible amounts of content, over 150 music videos, and are able to tour a more comfortable amount. They went from playing fairs, festivals and cruise ships to now playing their own shows, being invited for special ones, as well as continuing to play festivals and fairs, it’s just not as exhausting a schedule. As for their styles, they have a very specific sound and stay true to themselves, but when they do a song, they also have immense respect for it which makes every one great. Have fun with this rabbit hole!! I don’t like much country music, but these guys are solid exceptions. You can’t really go wrong with a video of theirs. (They have a humorous side which you haven’t seen yet too!! All About the Bass, Sunday Best, Country Fried Pop Medley are all fun) In The Blood, Flowers on the Wall, End of the Road, and Everybody Walking This Land are all wonderful!
Enjoyed that!!! And yes, you're not wrong on the "feeling". Plus, HF slows it down just a tad here... adding in their "flavor". Home Free has an uncanny ability to absolutely change, even the "feeling" of a song -- as here, like you mentioned. It's not the 1st; they had that effect on many. Listening to it several times, if nothing else other than to "see" the changes ..... it's really really grown on me.
Super reaction Molly. Johnny Cash would be pleased. These bass voices suck you right in. As you were doing, my head was nodding and my feet were tapping. Fun. 🌸
@@whyme7996 That's a matter of opinion. I enjoy Avi's silky solo and the Bass interplay was fantastic. Two Bass masters in one powerful song like ROF is worth watching.
Great reaction! I agree Johnny's version was way darker -- but Tim Foust's face at the low note was seriously wicked. 😳 mayb try Workin For a Living next as it highlights each individual voice with a name attached and it's funny too. It helped me appreciate them more as I'm a new Home Fry for life!

home free never just adds stuff in to accommodate the different group members. Egos don't enter into it. They do whatever is called for to make the best music they can.
Never thought about the rage aspect. To me this slower version feels like the mixture of longing and resignation expressed in the lyrics is in the form of melancholy..
Well Johnny did spend some time in prison so that’s probably why he has that anger. It’s a group effort so I thought they did a great job on blending everyone, from the harmonica sounds from the beatboxer to Austin (high tenor) making some train sounds to Rob, (tenor, glasses) putting his little bit of soul into it. Yeah Chance and Tim killed the bass. We think Tim did the crime, Adam belongs in the insane asylum and the others are accomplices. They did this during Covid so don’t pay attention to the height charts. They’re all wrong. Tim cut his hair this past year too so he looks a little different. Good reaction. Maybe try Helplessly Hoping, Castle on the Hill, Die a Happy Man to hear more great harmonies.
Due to some misdemeanor arrests he spent some overnight stays in jail, but he was never in prison, except for the concert to inmates at Folsom Prison in 1968.
Isn't this the song the put Johnny Cash on the map? He sang it in the prison? I really enjoyed Home Free's spin on it. They make songs take on a new life. Even though Cash flubbed up on the lyrics, it's still a good song. The railroad ran along what is now HWY 80 not 50 where Folsom is. And if you commit a crime in Reno NV, you won't be in Folsom. Folsom is part of the California Department of Corrections, not Nevada's.
Due to some misdemeanor arrests he spent some overnight stays in jail, but he was never in prison, except for the concert to inmates at Folsom Prison in 1968.
