    2 Years later and this video is still relevant. I just bought the NTG and had terrible background noise out of the box. Upgrading the firmware took care of it. Thanks!

      @@IsomPhilips thanks for making it! my problem turned out to be the firmware. And just generally messing with the gain levels between the camera and mic

    • @IsomPhilips

      I think that's what most will experience. The firmware update will solve a lot of problems and after that it's a matter of adjusting settings.

    Thank you Philips, I upgraded the firmware and it got better. This is the best video about the ntg mic out there. Keep the good work up buddy... 👍🏻👍🏻

    Still heard slight distortion when you raised up your voices through both mic.

      Thanks, yeah I had difficulties with this mic getting a proper level at times even though my meter was showing no signs of clipping. I wound up selling it

    Thanks for this. Any tips for eliminating noise from the mic shock-mount bouncing when the camera moves? Also, my Rode mic picks up the hum of the zooming button. I have a Canon Vixia. Thanks!

    Were you able to figure out the distortion/clipping from VMNTG? It sounded rough in this video

    • @IsomPhilips
      @IsomPhilips  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had issues with the mic with clipping even though my level meter didn't show that. Could have been due to a variety of things but I eventually got frustrated with it and sold it. I now use the Rode VideoMic Go II. Easier to use and good sound quality. Thanks for your question and thanks for watching!

      @@IsomPhilips Same here! No matter what I do, the clipping still exists and I've thought about giving the VideoMic Go II a try as well. I may just pull the trigger and pick up the videomic go ii. Thanks for this video.

      Yes I heard that at the start of the video as well. Think I will bypass the NTG and maybe go for the proven Pro+.

    Hi Isom thank you for your video! I have a sony a7sIII, so your advice is to set the volume to 1 in camera and then increase the volume directly on the videomic ntg? I wish I could make the most of the capabilities of the microphone

    • @IsomPhilips
      @IsomPhilips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that is the way to get the best audio from your mic and that is what Rode suggests. Here is a link to a complete guide to using the Videomic NTG videomicntg.rode.com/support Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching the video.

      @@IsomPhilips Thanks a lot..unfortunately this is not available in India..does this also connect to an iPhone 3.5 mm lightening adapter and provide mic output? Or for iphone extension we need an TRRS one..
      Presently I have an TRRS extension and not TRS that might be causing issue .

    • @IsomPhilips
      @IsomPhilips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would need a cable with a TRRS male end connected to the iPhone lightning dongle to connect to your iPhone.

    late to this, but do you know why there’s so much fuzzy noise using my rhode mic plugged into my phone? i’m using the right connectors / adapters, but there’s a horrible static esq noise on all videos.

    • @IsomPhilips
      @IsomPhilips  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what could be causing that. You could try putting your phone in airplane mode to see if that helps. I never used the mic with my phone. This might be an issue where you would need to contact Rode support if it persists. Thanks for watching the video!

    Im pretty sure ive already downloaded the firmware update, but when I tried again a couple months later (now) the updater just turns into rode connect, Is this happening to everyone? what am I missing?

    • @FortbloxNET
      @FortbloxNET 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rode connect is the software that upgrades your mic.
