Yeah, he's got his head on straight. Why does he need to get saddled with taking care of a broken person when he wasn't the one that betrayed his family? Love how easy she got off too. So many people to take care of her and arrangements made to keep her comfortable and safe once leaving the hospital. If it was a man he would've have gotten thrown to the wolves for such a betrayal.

Yes, he is acting rationally. He wasn't the one who betrayed his family, so why does he have to take care of someone who is broken? I also like how easy she was let off. She has so many people taking care of her, and plans have been made to keep her secure and comfortable after she leaves the hospital. Had he been a man, such treachery would have resulted in his being cast among the wolves.

I met a girl online years ago before I got married. She drove several hours to meet me. We hung out and eventually had sex that same day. She asked me if she could stay the night. It was now 6pm. She got there at 12pm. She told me, let me call my husband and let him know I'm staying at a friend's for the night. WTF?!
Me: You're married. What friend's house does he think you're at?
Trifling Chick: A friend of mine
Me: When he asks you what friend, what will you say?
TC: A friend. I dont have to tell him. I'm not in prison.
Me: WTF? Are you serious? You think your husband asking you what friend's house you're staying at OVERNIGHT is for prisoners/warden? Straight up, if I was him, you would be out on your ass.
TC: Laughed. I had him look up the directions (back when you had to look up directions on a home computer) on how to get to your house while I was getting ready to come out here.
Me: ...and he didn't ask what friend's house you were going to visit 3 hours away? How long have you been with your husband?
TC: Since we were 15 (She was 31 then)
Me: Then he should know every friend you know.
      TC: He TRUSTS me.

Cheating is immoral, but people still justify it, saying that they would do whatever it takes to stay in their other relationship without ruining their first one. It's like that domino effect where if one falls down, the rest of the pieces follow. You can never expect a peaceful life out of a situation like this. Once temptation bites you in the ass, stand up to it. Don't make any fusses. You're fully held accountable and responsible for any consequence that may come from it.

The one hill I will die on is that cheaters do not get a second chance. I’m not married, but if my future husband were to tell me he cheated on me, I will only say, “we’re getting divorced.” I will not negotiate, and I am going to ruin his reputation, as well as the AP if they were unaware that they were an affair partner. Any kids we have, I will try to get as much custody as possible. This wouldn’t be to spite him, it would be out of genuine fear that this bad behavior would rub off on them and they make think that cheating isn’t bad.

Judging by the age of the sister in law (in her mid - late 40's, IIRC), and assuming that his younger brother married around his own age, the brother should have been between 45 - 50 years old. Assuming OP was relatively close in age to his brother, and that OP said that he and his wife have been together for 40 years (not married, but had a relationship, so I'm going to guestimate about 5 years of dating), I'd say he's late 50's. She’s not a mess because she’s remorseful, she’s a mess because she was caught and had to face the consequences. She went along happily to that little getaway and would have continued lying through her teeth if she hadn’t been confronted.

I haven't watched this to the end, so this could possibly be mentioned further into the story, anything accessed from the iCloud by the PI would not be admissible in court, on top of it being a crime. While PI's are afforded some rights beyond civilians, unauthorized access of an online service is not one of them
