people like this have no place in our community,, all he does is pick on people,, myself included. I just ignore the bully.
all these small manufactures are all THREATNED by Lionel Strang and the power of his podcast.. you say a bad thing about me I will sink your company,, WELL I SAY wake up people,, we don't like bullies in the school yard so why are we putting up with one here in model trains? A HOBBY of fun, enjoyment and a release of reality
if you have a AML Podcast tee shirt ,, put it on a stick,, light it on fire,, do a video and # burn the shirt

Thanks. These Negative People in our Hobby need Pointed Out for us all to Avoid. People like these People ruined the Sportscards Hobby for Kids. They sound like Mr. Mint. I quit buying Cards because of people like him.

I'm actually glad to hear that Rapido put their sponsorship. This kind of behavior doesn't belong in any hobby! Cyber bulling is a huge problem. Why is anyone in the hobby doing it?

Howdy Dave, been a while. I work at Midwest Model Railroad, as soon as I saw James Wright's video yesterday, I contacted our store's owner about it, and we pulled ALL of the AML ads we had within about 30 minutes. That's the exact sort of thing this hobby does NOT need.
Sparky, I'm glad you are calling these bad apples out. We don't need them making our community a bad place.
So much going on right now, a shame things and people like these have called out.

Toxic behaviour should never be welcome or encouraged.

Things are getting crazy. Why can't everyone just appreciate what each other does. Why does everyone feel like they are better than everyone else. There is so much we can learn from how everyone in the community does. Man, women, and children have many skills to share in this community. Please stop this and appreciate the differences

The problem is, these people want everybody to build layouts THEIR way, buy, or build, trains THEY approve of, accept only people they think should be in the hobby, etc, and if you don't, they feel the need to bully and threaten you if you don't do what they say! James Wright (aka jlwii2000) put out a video on this yesterday on Facebook, and in that video, he mentioned his own run-ins with bullies, where one of them said he was going to send his biker gang to "deal with him", which is probably one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of, especially when you consider James' military background, and even mentioned it in his video! Heck, I've even had run-ins with these types of people over fantasy schemes, which I won't get into the details of that here, but these kind of folks is what is destroying the hobby! As I said once, certain model train forums are like what I see in the anime community, and after hearing James' personal accounts with bullies in his video, that appearantly includes death threats as well!

Mr. Strang came across as very rude on the 'What's Neat Podcast'..........I posted that they should Delete the podcast. I assumed he was abrasive because he was ill / going through cancer treatments - so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. But just because one is ill does Not give them License to be an A**hole. That being said, there's a large number of people who are on the Spectrum in the Train community - one of the traits is being socially awkward.
You have my vote for ethics commissioner of the model railroad community!! Anyone else??

Never heard of the podcast, but hearing all the backlash, even on FB. I don't listen to any podcasts or use media with podcasts. Probably, for this very reason. As for the other situation, I am very sorry you have had to endure this, you have always been a positive boon to the community.

This is what I've been saying for a while now, Sparky! People like that are the reason the hobby isn't where it should be! The funny thing is, those same people will sit there and tell you, WITH A STRAIGHT FACE, "oh, the hobby is dying", and then give a bunch of bs reasons why, when in reality its the bullying, the threats, and all this toxic behavior from these people that will kill this hobby faster than anything!
Lionel has gotten to the point he thinks he’s a god- quite the opposite he’s a wicked evil person. Even his last couple podcasts are off from how he started, have unsubscribed from him. Life is short and we don’t need this in our community.
On a side note- what video do I need to watch about the 2025 meet and greet of yours. I know you said Tammy taking over after this but I cant find this yrs date and place. Know near Niagara Falls.

This is why I stay the hell away from model railroad organizations like nmra and events like the Amherst show. It’s a damn hobby, not a grade school playground. It would be much better if people just enjoyed the hobby for what it is and kept to themselves.On all sides.
I attend, I just don't care about or get caught up in the Cult of Personality.

I've heard some things from a mutual friend of ours. I have never listend to AML and I;m glad that I haven't. Sadly, a lot of my hobbies have these kinds of people in them. A hobby is supposed to be fun and relaxing, not stressful or mean spirited.
Life is way to short to deal with people like that ! I have been lucky with modelers . I deal with them on my local level . Some people just dont have a clue.

I have Never been to The Amherst Show and I live about 45 miles away, also Not on any social media = I'm to old LOL.

I don't know either of those people, but I'll be sure to avoid them. There's no room for toxic people in this hobby. I know Sparky is a really good guy, and if someone irritated him enough for him to make a video, then they can't be good.
I don't know anything about the back and forth between the two, but both have a history, Lucy has a history of being nice to people and doing her job well, Strang on the other hand has his own history that isn't very noteworthy. I have heard that this hobby is such a close brotherhood (or sisterhood as it were), but I have not had that experience. With the exception of vendors, most of my interactions make me think this is just another "leetist" hobby. If you're not in the clique, buh-bye. Thankfully I don't find AML relevant. I listened once and that was the end. Hope Lucy brushes it off,
Think how much better you would be with no internet and a simple 4 x 8 layout. It’s okay to unplug, turn it all off, and find enjoyment in the hobby, away from people.
Of the AML T shirts I had, I put them in the dust bin...Unsubsidized to the Patreon in August 2022.
Hi Sparky we have had dealing with a guy over hear we set him four trains to be work on, one was a livery never done before and sent him money to get them back because he had completed the work and 5 years later still not got them back a value of £1500.00 he is a prize pillock. And as for your guy who has upset the lady he needs taking down of his perch. There is no need to be like that. Colin

Hey David, i didn't get a shirt but i did drop him off. No longer sub. Really sucks when you hear this bad when im ever so thankful for the good it has done for me and you also. I barely watch much now day but life is really getting in the way
I don't listen to that podcast. Found his humor insulting and abrasive. Sounds like he took it way too far.

Sounds like there's a lot of LDE in the hobby lately. I have no use for it. A lot of the reason I stopped posting vids to my channel as well. You try to share something, and even though the a-holes are few and far between, it sucks the energy out of you.
We need all the facts before having a knee kerk reaction. I'd like to know what was said, his side of the story, her side of the story. There's a lot of variables in play that could jave lead to crying. Both of them are spectrum allegedly. Now if this situation is truly being presented correctly online, he needs to apologize. Unfortunately I've noticed a ever increasing of assholes within the hobby. I dont know if it's society as a whole enabling this behavior or people have learned to be pricks from hiding behind keyboards which has bled over to face to face interactions.
I don't think this is a knee jerk reaction because reactions like this aren't out of nowhere. It's after years of a hobby that objectively struggles to get a younger audience, and older hobbyists insisting on gatekeeping to such a degree that assholes have a disproportionate voice that creates a chilling effect with new people who then proceed to not come back. If I learned anything from people talking about this, there's a long trail of people who spent years ignoring this hobby precisely because of bad interactions at local clubs where rivet counters and other contrarians gatekept so much that it sucked all the fun out of the room.
So the "full story" is not just one single story: it's a pattern of stories exemplified by this one. Common sense says that if you see patterns like this it merits tackling it from the pattern instead of just case-by-case. The latter works when it is rare, but it's clear by shared experiences this is all too common.
