About this game:

this might be my favorite series now.
It's seriously a cool game. It just needs more weapon and enemy types.
Which, presumably, it'll be getting as it develops.
Yeah, it's one of the few roguelites that I actually really like playing - bought it immediately after yesterday's video, and burned several, several hours that I should have spent sleeping.
There are a lot more enemy types than he's seen, unless you've been deep into the game yourself. I've only seen semi-deep into one of the paths but so far the enemy variety takes off once you get past the Ramparts.
yeah there's a lot of enemy variety already and tons of weapons too that you won't see initially because you need to find the blueprints first to unlock them
if anything I would like to see more bosses but besides that the game has a lot of content already

So I watch a few other videos of dead cells and NL is the only one I see who opens the doors instead of murdering it. what a gentlemen

Hey NL! Long time viewer first time commenter here, glad to see you take such a liking into this game, I watched your first episode and immediately purchased it for myself NO REGRETS!
Just a few pointers that I have learned in my first few hours playing the game:
1. Exploration. Feel free to explore the levels completely. The teleportation devices in conjunction with the map function allow for very easy exploration and provide a greater ease in acquiring cells in the early game thus allowing for slightly quicker progression in terms of item accessibility (health and starter weapon upgrades being the best first items in my opinion)
2. Items that are dropped on the ground do not de-spawn. Health items such as carrots in particular, can be saved for greater value, the teleportation devices make it easier to do so as the items also appear on the map.
3. Runes. I guess this comes with time but if you can spot those illusive runes, they are great for gold acquisition and secret portals.
Loving the series so far keep up the good work!
thing I just learned, if you get hit and attack an enemy you will gain back some health similar to Bloodborne

This game is actually fantastic
you can crouch under arrows
You can do a stun attack, ground-pound move by holding down and pressing A in the air. Also you should explore the entirety of the starting area your first several runs. It it increases your likelihood of finding blueprints, weapons, cells, and power ups.
NL USE THE TELEPORTERS AND ACTIVATE THE ROLL FEEDBACK YOU EGG

Speak for yourself you pretty much have to just rush to them, get the upgrade and then never care about it after. It's easy when you play aggressively which he should start doing.

+Northernlion A pro tip to help with your speedrunning. Any climbing animation can be followed with a roll by pressing the roll button mid animation. At the top of ladders/chains/vines as you climb onto the ledge. When you climb on any free ledge, press the roll button during the climbing animation. Never use elevators going down. There is no fall damage, so just drop through the elevator and roll at the bottom. By doing so, there is less of a chance to become stunned at the landing. There is an indicator in the misc options for rolling. It's a small white flash on the character when your roll is ready. Practice your rolling timing.
Underworldbros Air attacks also stop you from getting stunned
true, but there is a half second pause when you land. If you roll, there is no pause
Remember to groundpound by using down+jump, as it does exponentially more damage the longer you fall, and will instantly kill enemies from surprisingly short falls.

Watching him get ranged weapons plus a bear trap, and then stand directly next to enemies to fight them is incredible.
Protips: Do more full clears to get more powerful before later areas.
Duck under archer arrows or roll into them.
Secrets can be found anywhere the floor meets a wall, denoted by a glowing rune.
Secret challenge areas are found as a rune on the floor.
1.1 Promenade
1.2 Ramparts
2.1 toxic sewers
2.2 old sewers
3.1 ossuary etc etc

I'm impressed BoI is only starting to wind down for him after he played like... 2000 episodes combined with the original game + Rebirth.
Hell, I lost interest in his Isaac series after episode 100-something of the original game.
I hope so, I got bored of watching his Isaac videos years ago.
Isaac's a fantastic game. The fact that something new hasn't come along to completely upstage it is baffling. There are plenty of new games, but none that hit the replayability bullseye like Isaac does. The original Flash game was released 2011!

Northernlion I hope you get to see this. Watching your isaac is one of my favourite pass times.. Ultimate chicken horse was absolutely fantastic and dead looks super fun! +Northerlion Health has a bloodborn effect in which you can regen the orange part with each successive hit on an enemy.
yo, a couple of tips: (haven't seen thsi video but I have 20 hours so far)
You can cancel many actions with the roll and shield. So you can cancel an attack with a roll or a block, or you can cancel a block with a roll. I don't think you can cancel a roll.
You have momentum (just a bit) from actions like the smash attack, and the roll.
Momentum carries from one action to another, so you can roll-jump to get a bit further.
SUPER GOOD FOR SPEEDRUNNING:
Using the force shield (the one that gives you a little dash) gives you a very strong but short push,
if you cancel the force-block with a jump, you'll carry the momentum over to the jump. Pretty much you'll be dash-jumping like in the megaman X games.
You can also use the same shield, but instead of jumping you can roll. This will make you roll for a LONG distance, 100% safe.

This is wicked good
quick tip nl the electric whip has the added benefit of having quite a bit of range just outside many of the melee enemies range
Tips~
1)Your ground pound does damage based on your height, it's quite easy to one hit most mobs with it up to 3 stages in.
2)Smashing doors with enemies next to it does a bit of damage and stuns all mobs near the door.
3)Every Stage has 1-3 exits to different unique stages. If you aren't going for a speed run, it's best to fully clear/explore Stages. You'll need the powerups and Cells
4)By Stage 4 you'll want 4 Power and 3 HP atleast. Stuffs really starts hitting hard and without going into spoilers, it will help alot. This is surprisingly possible by the end of stage 2 in some runs.
5)The Invincibility frames from dodging appear to be longer then guarding, though I have no hard evidence. Learning to get good at dodging is really helpful. I personally can beat stages 1-3 without getting hit from purely dodging only.
6)All enemies, including bosses, telegraph all their attacks. Watch and learn.
7)Mob priority is a thing, you will need to learn that it is safer to avoid certain weaker mobs to kill mobs that are more of a pain. For example Mushrooms, should you see a Mushroom summoning spikes, should you A: Kill everything on the way to it while avoiding it's spikes? or B: Avoid the other mobs, run to the Mushroom, stop it and then clean up the rest?
For anyone wondering, by choosing the Old Sewers as his stage 3, he's choosing the hardest of 2 options, that is without the Sewer necklace.
That's good to know, so far I've been sticking with ramparts route as I want to finish off that boss. Guess I'll go toxic sewers once I finish it.
Ramparts is easily trivialized by homing weapons like Lightning Whip, gives you more time to snowball harder.
So far my best run was starting zone I was able to get the Sewer necklace that stops all poison damage period, took that into Sewers for my stage 2, was able to get enough power to 3 hit nearly every mob in there, continued to Old Sewers for my stage 3 and from there, I think I took ramparts(I say I think because I am unsure, I think it was the ramparts, that run was last night after like 7 or 8 consecutive tries) as my stage 4 strolled through like it was nothing making it to whatever waits at stage 5(game is still really new so wont spoil that) and nearly did it.
Flasks really help out alot. Stages 4+ I find myself using my 3 flasks. Even at lvl4-5 HP and lvl5-6 power. Shit still hits you nearly to death in a single blow.
I just got a couple areas past Ramparts (3? 4? I was deep in the nasty stuff) all because of an OP combo of skills (meat grinder + magnetic Grenade == broken as hell if you can avoid getting hit...) (

this game is so good and just feels so smooth and fluid, wish more EA games were this polished. Also, biters are beyond OP

You can roll midair. And slam the ground by holding down and pressing jump midair. Also if u pick strength then u don't have to hit regular enemies 10 to 20 times to kill them.

If you have a choice of upgrades, choose strength.
Do not be weak egg.
Health or skill is for eggboi.
Strength is for eggMAN.

Traps the elite in a bear trap while holding two weapons with good range and decides its a good idea to physically touch said elite
Some tips for you NL:
Dont take the shield , the dodge roll is better.
Spam your skills and secondary weapon if possible.
Do the air drop attack.
I bet Nl was one of those guys that just tried to parry everything in dark souls. Humph

Dave Martino I am fighting a melee enemy and have an item that can render him immobile that recharges by the time he breaks out as well as high damage ranged weapons.... guess I should stand 2 cm away and whap at him with my sword.

Why is NL's strategy: stand still and wait to get hit by enemies and then fight back?
Ay NL, start exploring the all the areas so you don't miss upgrades. On your second run you got none on your first level for a reason. You immediately go into the next level. It's like going straight to the boss room and skipping an item room and shop. So explore more.

Wow, interesting comment about choosing health upgrade! I'll have to apply that mindset to my next run :) I'm loving this game so much.
Health upgrade is not the way to go. #1 - Don't take advice from the egg.
I'd recommend taking strength unless you have a good skill like death orb or cluster bomb. a good skill build can let you breeze through the entire game, but strength can get the job done too.

I played this for a while last night. It's really great! But, I think I'm going to reassign my weapons and rolling to the triggers and bumpers so my Dark Souls reflexes don't screw me up so much.
