I've got a 2015 Taurus SEL, with about 135k on the clock. Water pump appears to be weeping, as you showed (there's some small, dried coolant drips/stains on the oil pan, beneath the pump area). Coolant level also goes down over time, from "full" to "add" marks over a few months (I usually have to top-it-up at oil changes; every 5k mi.). Been a mechanic (truck & industrial machinery) for 40+ years, and changed many, MANY water pumps over the years. This one is a total PIA to change! 😂WTF was Ford thinking when they put the pump INSIDE the engine? (Well, inside the lubricated area of the engine, anyway). Great video! Thanks for all the detailed explanations while you disassembled & reassembled everything! 👍👍
They were putting the water pump inside the engine back when they came out with the 1991 escort 4 cyl it ran off the timing belt replaced a lot of them
@alfonsohouston9045 Yep, I had a 94 Escort wagon... I did the water pump in it at some point. It wasn't a terrible job to do... at least the pump wasn't "inside" the engine (in the lubricated space). It was actually a great little car. Mine had a 5-spd manual and crank-widows... simple! Kept it 24 years ('94 to 2018), had 280,000 on it!
My dealer just did my 2016 Flex FWD, 107,000 miles. $2,300 with all the new parts chains etc. Cheaper than a new car and I really love my Flex. Always maintained the car religiously.
I personally just used my strong impact gun and some lock tight and hammered it down. If that's not something you feel comfortable doing then go ahead and remove starter from the top and use a pry bar or a large flat head screw driver to lock the flywheel and stop it from turning while doing prior torque spec
Imo, you should have changed the timing chain and related components now while you had it all apart. Pretty much recommend doing both water pump and timing chain around 100k. Very helpful video still, thanks for posting.
Most customers say no. I always tell customers that it's recommend to replace certain parts while we are in there or they'll end up paying double most of the time they don't care 🤷🏾
@@AndrewCantonTV they use to make great work trucks but not anymore. When your work truck is down in the shop, you are not making any money and paying huge money to repair the pos.
Ford says 14 hours. That labor cost, gives my nausea. Do it yourself, if you can. Good time to replace plugs and wires, PVC valve, oil pump, timing chain and guides, water pump and coolant with their newly recommended yellow, oil, and Gaskets galore. There are more things to check. GOOD LUCK!
How much would you have charged for this if you were to charge fairly to a random person? I’m trying to get a quote for mine from mechanics around my area and would like to get somewhat of an idea.
I did the job from start to finishing including replacing the spark plugs and valve cover gaskets in 6 hours. Even for a shop who charges $100 per hour which is pretty high in my opinion you shouldn't pay more than $600 for labor + oem water pump $130 + coolant and oil change., still should be all with parts and labor under $1000
Fantastic video
Absolutely great video very thorough thanks for sharing
This job is like most others, once you’ve done a couple of them it’s not too bad at all.
very good video, seems ppl do these allite differenty but this video make alot of sense

They are reliable motors just some design "flaws" that are inconvenient for owners finances😁
thank you!

What did you use to hold the harmonic balancer pulley from turning when you torqued it to specs. Thank for you a great video.

Thank you for the video. Can you tell me how / what you used to press in the new seal on the timing chain cover?
@brianb82 i used same diameter impact socket to press the new seal into timing cover.
I have the most respect for this the next time it happens will attempt it cost me 2,000 I didn't have enough time and its cold as hell outside.
Oh man, even florida is cold right now and I hate cold, takes away all interest working on something inconvenient like this
@pandydiy I saw the video man that was awesome I got a Interceptor myself and it just happened 2000 bucks to replace if I had a shop id do it myself
Thank you ! Very helpful video, my water pump started showing signs of failure, slow leak from exact same spot.
Glad I could help
Great video, absolute garbage design, how is ford still in business making garbage like this.
@@polska905 ford design and product are disappointing
Not just a ford design. GM and Chrysler bother have motors like this
there's a lawsuit against them for this. Apparently they responded with "just do it ahead of time as preventative maintenance"
Because they make great work trucks

Did you have to remove the power steering pump to get the timing cover off?
@@Codeezy90 there is no power steering pump on mine since its electric power steering
If it has hydraulic power steering, yes.
I would never go that far and not replace the chain, guides and tensioners.
How would you mark the timing chain if you replace it?
@@chjunes74 count the links and mark them that way. Each chain has the same number of links.
