I conducted the pit orchestra in this production at a community college in the 90's, and this song has ALWAYS inspired me! The music, but moreso, the LYRICS, speak to ALL of us...I'm now a deacon in the Catholic Church, and I'm using these lyrics as part of my homily this weekend... I can hear Jesus singing these words to us as he lets us know that he'll ALWAYS be here to take our burdens away from us! Great production, City Center crew...beautiful!
Come over here and rest awhile Look at the trip you've made I know you must be tired now So rest here in the shade Oh, the journey that you've had to make I've watched you bear the load But you can always stay at my place When you come off the road And if you ever need somebody (need somebody) Count on me anytime (you can count on me) I'll be here to pick you up Because a rested body is a rested mind Because a rested body is a rested mind (Because a rested body is a rested mind) A rested body is a rested mind
I agree. I’m still confused on the casting in the recent national Tour/upcoming Broadway revival where it’s Evilline that doubles as Aunt Em. Would’ve preferred if Deborah Cox played Aunt Em as well, since she’s Glinda. But then again, we’d also the issue of having Glinda’s takeover of Addaperle’s parts, in fact, Addaperle doesn’t appear at all.
this song was not included in "the wiz live", or the 1978 film version. neither was it featured on the original broadway cast album. although i saw the touring company with lillias white in the 80s, i didn't remember this pretty song. why has "a rested body" ridden so far under the wire? the lyrics of the song do seen unrelated to the plot. lena horne could have torn it up, leaning against a roman column in the middle of a cornfield.
+Alex Tirrell Yeah, me too. I was hoping for the live version they would play it, and then when Glinda came down and i heard it i got excited for like 10 seconds until it stopped playing and i was like "HEY WHAT THE HECK!" and had to explain it to my family lol Idk why this song doesn't get any love. At least it'll be back in 2016 when the show goes back to broadway.
Alex Tirrell I think so. I think the Live version cut out a few things for the sake of the time slot, such as cutting the witch's scene with her monkeys and Glinda song, but the broadway show doesn't have to worry about that. I see no reason why they wouldn't have it. It really is such a beautiful song and most people don't know it exists :/
+Cookieboy12 oh hell no!!! I mean the late choreographer Alvin Ailey with his greatest work, Revelations! With all due respect, not every reference regarding this musical will be directed towards NBC's version. Look up Ailey and Revelations and you'll know what I'm talking about
I just saw a performance of The Wiz at Ford's Theatre in DC and they did a similar thing like this. I saw them big ol fans and said "Come through with the Revelations realness!!!" His legacy will live on forever
This song makes me cry every time, it reminds me so much of my grandmother❤️🦋
Awwww

Roya :/ - I’ve performed this role before, the lyrics are “And if you ever need someone (need someone)” and “I’ll be here to lay you down”
노래 너무 좋다..
I wonder, why don't they have Aunt Em play Glinda more often. It'd give the actress more to do than just one scene
I'm doing the Wiz and I'm playing Aunt Em and Glinda, which I also think is a good idea!
B E I’m playin aunt em and Glinda
Playing all both good witches (with some slight rewrites to this scene) would be great.
I'm playing aunt em and glinda in my high school musical! So excited!

+creamlandstudios I've always loved it. I was so disappointed when they played the opening bars and stopped during NBC's The Wiz Live!

+Bla Blah Will it? I thought The Wiz Live! version of the show was coming pretty much as is...
