Fun Fact: the James Bond movie "For Your Eyes Only" was shot there and they had to get a special permit for the movie shoot. They also wanted to shoot scenes for GoT,more specific the scenes that take place at The Vale (the domain of House Arryn), but there were some logistical and buraeucratic issues. In the end the producers send a team to film some footage at Meteora and enchanced it with CGI for the show. The mountains of the Vale in the show are actually the Meteora mountains,with some CGI sprinkled over. Also,the album "Meteora" by Linkin Park was named after this,after Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington read about it in a travel magazine and became fascinated.
Same goes for the battle with the Mountain where the other protagonist dies, don't remember his name. They wanted to "rent" a place in one island of ours but the local government rejected the request simply because the area was open for the public/tourists and they didn't want to close it down just for the movie. They could make a quick buck easily, but the authorities acted pretty solidly.
Awesome video! Those hermit caves are insane, I wouldn't even make it halfway up. It's incredible how they built the monasteries on the stone pillars. Such a fascinating place!

For 400 years Turks kept us into obscurantism, darkness but we survived almost "unscathed". However, we lost 400 years of progress. When our City fell in 1453, Constantinople, it was the richest in the world with Rome being second. For the next 400 years we were simply trying to avoid them and that's why we remained Christians and Greeks, while other nearby Ethnicities, simply converted to Islam and even joined the Turks, altogether trying to eradicate us. Our short story after Classical Greece which for 400 years includes nothing important, unfortunately. One of our last inventions, the "Greek Fire" was a powerful weapon sadly, in the tries to repel the Turks. We kept the secret so well hidden, guarded, we even ourselves lost the recipe.🙂
Meteora is high on our list of places to visit when we travel to Greece! Impressive churches and monasteries! It also reminds me a bit of the Cappadocia as well, with churches and living quarters dug into the rocks.

Keep in mind all these rocks can be climbed. Greek climbers have created many routes and the ascent is pretty magical. While you agonize to climb, on the next Rock at the top of a Monastery, people staring at you and smile... Surreal situation. Of course, hikers can be served as well. 🙂
She says "The church is over 25 century's old" But the actual Christianity itself is just over 20 centuries old, (I'm wondering what sort of church is that)? However the place and the building it's great achievement, considering the time it was built
I'll tell you how. :) The church was originally a temple dedicated to the God Apollo. The church site and what it was made of is 25 centuries old but Christianity is obviously not.
2500 years ago it was then a pagan temple and not a church. The monks also went to live in those hills to hide from the persecutions of the Turks. This church was bombed by the Germans. Nazi party members did not have an airforce. Germany had. Political correctness is unbareble. A part from that your video is nice thanks.
