  • DJ Gerry visits the location on Denmark Street in London where John Lennon & PAUL McCartney were invited to ride in the same taxi as Mick Jagger & Keith Richards.
This productive encounter resulted in the Beatles offering the Stones an opportunity to record one of their songs.
It is important to note that The Rolling Stones single of “I Wanna Be Your Man” ( # 12 1963) was their first UK top 20 hit, but their first single was a cover of Chuck Berry’s “Come On”. A song from Lennon/McCartney seemed like a guaranteed hit.
The Stone’s version was “tougher” than the Beatles’ rendition…The rest is history…

Obviously, the Beatles and the Stones were both INCREDIBLE creative forces of nature. Imagining them together, what a powerhouse whirlwind of talent !

@@77DJ961 I surely do. I love music. And while in high school myself and my friend were disc jockeys on our local cable channel twice a week. I’ve met Jimmy Roach he was at WDVE then, Jim Quinn, Rush Limbaugh. Jim Roach is a great great man indeed. It was so fun we had all of them on our show. Jimmy said to me at that time, I hope you are able to stay in this you’ve a great voice and genuine love for music. I’ve been sick with blood cancer since 2020.

I need to ask you this how was your experience with Mick and Keith ? I’m so excited to hear all about it. Are you on an extended vacation? When will you be returning to the U.S. ?

Actually first Stones hit was a #21 cover of Chuck Berry's Come On, Aug. 1963.

Hi Steve, Here is some clarification…
“I Wanna Be Your Man” was The Rolling Stones second single, but their first UK top 20 hit. So, that’s why I stated it was their first hit, since it charted higher than “Come on”.

Yeah #21on the chart is not a hit back then. 😅

Hi Akang, The Rolling Stones asked the Beatles for a song. It was easy to play and the Beatles offered it to them.
