I remenber the game like it was yesterday . The best StEteinne no dought but also the end of the great St Etienne after that game. Les verts would never be the same
Will never forget the Fairclouch goal. Still remember everybody was down on the french defender Christian Lopez cz he didn't commit a fault.... great memories...
Me and a mate thumbed a lift and ended up getting to the ground at five o'clock! Thousands of green and white scarved Frenchmen were already there. The noise on the Kop doesn't come over at all on this video. When Fairclough scored, I went down about fifteen rows without my feet touching the ground. I remember all the experiences like it was yesterday but hardly anything about the actual game!
Me dad took me out of school at 10am, we went the twelve miles to Anfield, on his motorbike, we was amongst the verts in anny rd end. Still the best day of my life
Hi i was 11 years old i reminber watch that game on tv in France , Liverpool and Saint Etienne was a great team in Europe at this times .and i guess for ever
Liverpool lost the away game 1-0 so when St Etienne equalised we had to score two more to go through. St Etienne were a very good side, so comfortable on the ball. I was in the paddock for that game, to the left were a large contingent of French supporters "ALLEZ LES VERTS!!!!", and, of course, the KOP was to the right. What an atmosphere, of all the games I've seen at Anfield that one stands out - and you can imagine the noise when David Fairclough scored that vital third goal.
St etienne were a fantastic football team then and went toe to toe with us all game. And its a shame you dont see football like this no more because football has changed so much over the years and these days players are wrapped up in cotton wool. And the health and saftey fifa mafia are ruining football with all these nonsensical rules and regulations and we need to go back to pure football...

One Word - Magic!
Anfield Road criait "ALLEZ les VERTS!" Thank you muzzam83.
St Etienne était un club top top à ce moment-là et il a produit beaucoup de grands joueurs. Je suis un partisan de Liverpool. ;)

Legend match.bathenay sends à missile.we will never forget.
Look at Clemence, no gloves.....different breed back then.
To many one of the best nights at Anfield...Ever....
I was at this game Amazing !!
Ray Clemence was the finest goalkeeper of his generation. That's a hell of a claim given the number of top rank English keepers alone.
you've got to respect the goalkeepers they dont wear gloves!
I love how Geraldt sinstadt says the goalscorers names and then.... And the Ginger headed ....😁👌😁😁🤣🤣
I was stuck up in Scotland at the time - and BBC Scotland showed shinty from Newtonmore or some such. Aaaarrgghh!
Gerald Sindstat commentary
this now could be interesting.
The game for, winning suprematie in Europe. Dramatic night.
ALLEZ SAINT-ETIENNE !!!

L'arbitre très gentil avec Liverpool...

Sha?????g the French with ease that was..... so easy, so easy, so easy.... and they like it as in BOOM 😎
Bathenay bordel
Toshack was rubbish, to be fair. Liverpool became a lot better after he was binned.
