Unbelievable how they won the title the season after promotion, strachan, wallace and Batty where on fire that season.

I remember this result. Liverpool had a thing back in the 90's of being involved in high scoring games, a combination of having a formidable attack and a weak defence dealing with high balls meant that so long as they scored more than they conceded it was ok....but as mentioned before the cracks were clear for all to see. An ageing team, defence that was questionable under the high ball and frequent management changes. Its taken 30 years to ride the carousel to get back to a side that will challenge for the league title. If history teaches us anything its that teams like arsenal, man utd and co. cant expect a quick fix anytime soon. This was a great game and Leeds were worthy league champions. YNWA.
Barnes an immense player before his Achilles injury turned him into a holding midfielder. Unplayable. Chapman an absolute battering ram in some games too
Wouldn’t say 45. I was there in the south stand (was the YEP family stand back then) and can’t remember much in that first half other than possibly the most devastating 17 minute period of football I’ve probably seen live. Barnes, Rush, Molby, Whelan, Beardsley and Houghton absolutely destroyed us. Was a joy to watch. We were ready to go home apparently(or my uncles were anyway) but glad we stayed. I really thought we were going to get it back to 5-5 at the end.

Brings back happy memories. I was 18 years old and couldn't get a ticket (big games had just become all ticket) so tried to buy one outside for a few hours with no luck whatsoever, so decided to try and sneak in through a turnstile in the Lowfields. One of my mates went through in front of me and tried to shield me as best he could from the old boy in the booth, while I tried to slither underneath the bottom rung of the turnstile. It went well until I got stuck half way underneath. My mate had had to go through and I was just wedged, half in half out. I thought well that's me fucked and resigned myself to whatever was gonna happen and looked up at the screen and the old fella with glasses on had got up out of his chair and was just gazing down at me stuck in his turnstile. Next thing, this great big skinhead put his boot into my back/arse and gave me the biggest shove and said "you're through now lad" I couldn't believe it. Got up and me and my mates sprinted up the stairs and straight into the end pen. Even though we got beat, I'd love to buy that man a beer. What a match. Thanks for uploading.

Back then, a game between Leeds and Liverpool would have been shown live on Sports today. I remember listening to the updates on the five live radio and thinking what the hell was happening there. When we were 4 down, i thought we were really going to get a beating, but thanks to Wilko and the team, we fought back well. And, maybe, just maybe, VAR would have disallowed Liverpool's opening goal and given Lee Chapman goal for foul, which wasn't for us.

Barnes the pinnacle of late 80s British football
The arrival of Glen Hysen into the back four didn’t help. No pace and he couldn’t read the game. The games against Leeds were always great. I miss them. Hope they come up for next season if there is one
Those who got a ticket for this game surely got value for money with a memorable 9 goal classic match. Barnes was superb for Liverpool but Chapman was also impressive for Leeds as the big number 9.
John Barnes was epic that day both teams when for it and didn't disappoint...a game of 2halves Liverpool was rampant made it look so easy at 4 nil down the whole kop end and orther parts of the ground gave john barnes around of applause nice to see back then BUT NOW TO THE SECOND HALF leeds pressed much higher this half knowing that Liverpool s defense was not as strong as there attacking line batty strachanpushed midfield up and chapmam took his goals well a great fight back but not to be in the end BUT WITH FERGIE TIME IT MAY HAVE BEEN FIVE EACH.
For some reason, I have no recollection of this game at all. I remember the Charity Shield one, but not this one.
What a game. LFC defence shocking but Barnes
I'm a West ham fan and always liked this Liverpool team.i remember the next season there were big changes with a lot of departures when souness came in.cracking Leeds side also.bring back the terraces great times before all this money changed football as we know it.
middle class\blue collar simply don't like standing!!!
Best of luck to Leeds from Liverpool , be great for you to come back up ...its been too long and it'll nice to have someone else who hates the mancs as much as us .
Be
Back then, a game between Leeds and Liverpool would have been shown live on Sports today.
John Barnes is clearly the star but Liverpool was just an amazing team going forward. Rushy does nothing too fancy but the goals keep going in.
John Barnes is a God
Underrated as well. He along with Gazza, most talented English players I' ve ever seen.
Jan Molby was fatter, a real lard arse!
waddle was better
@@si4632 waddle was a sack of shit with a lousy hair do.
@@CB-xr1eg world class skills waddle had superior player
The game summed up Liverpool that season - brilliant in the first half, couldn’t defend in the second half!
Barnes -- genuinely genius
Shocking performance by Mike Hooper in goal for Liverpool! Why was he in goal for this game?? Was Bruce Grobelaar out injured?
Barnes was on fire!
Know you now why Liverpool's goalkeeper Mike Hooper only played 51 games over eight and a half years at Anfield.
The fitness levels of these guys would be about 50% of today’s players.
These guys could play after having been in the pub all night, and they didn't roll around on the floor after having been kicked in the head
they probably had beers and a few chaser's at half time.
'This is wonderful, it's slaughter here'!
Those "Top Man" tops were legendary
We really should have sewn up the Title this year inspite of Kenny resigning.
😂😂 Haha. The proper old school looking ref. He defo was the “Staunch Labour Club member, darts playing pint o best and a babycham for missus” type of guy. 😂😂
the game was alot slower back then, due to the players not being as fit and substandard pitches
Does your father wear y fronts or boxers dude?5>1,keep looking up dude (as always)!Amen.
Great to have a player like Barnes in your team I bet. Always got a chance.
I wish leeds would come back to the WPL was rooting for them lat season hopefully this will be their year
YNWA
I predict they will be back in the premier next season.
John Barnes was unreal.
4:16 Still weird seeing a goalie handle a back pass ;-)
3,46 ..Is that Maggie Thatcher near the bottom of the screen?
The state of the pitch in those days man!
Barnes was an absolute weapon
Compared to the pitches of the 70s that is a putting green. Great match.
I agree..pitches weren't far of marshes/bogs in the 70's, add to the material the ball was made off. Jeez
Leeds fans applauding when Barnes slots home the 4th.
What odds were Leeds at the start of the 91/92 season to be champions?
DUNNO, BUT my only ever trip to leeds as an away fan was in this season 90/91. Got tonked 3-0 Leeds first season back in div 1, saw them finish about 5th I think, so they were obviously improving
Salahs goal against Southampton... just like Barnes goal.
Salahs great, but only half the player Johnny Barnes was
Liverpool''s empire fell apart because of an inability to defend aerial balls - and it all started v Palace in the '90 Cup s-f. That was when the balance of power shifted. 30 years later and maybe it's finally shifting back. Maybe.
Hang on! 07:24 a mis-hit pass from Molby . I used to think he had a radar in his boots as his passes always used to get to the target
