      Because nobody excluds you or demeans you or insults you because you have white skin that is tanned. People ask you where you've spent your holidays, or which tanning salon you go. That is not the case for non-white people who lighten their skin. The standards are set by a traumatic history that dictates white=beautiful/desirable/high in the social hierarchy. You set up a false equivalence that refuses to think the deleterious effects and aftereffects of imperialism and colonialism (on top of local oppressive structures).

She said that here in the US how a lot of people want a tan but in her country if you have a tan, that usually means your poor and your so tan bc you work outside in the sun a lot. It's true about Asian cultures carrying umbrellas and other forms of sun protection such as sun hats and visors. I not only have a Bachelors of International Relations but I've traveled around the world many many times and can confirm this with my own eyes. I've even been complimented on my super pale skin by Asian women (even State-side in nail salons) and at first I wasn't sure how to take the compliment but I've come to learn and realize it's really a cultural thing. When I saw glutathione in the title, I know my country (Philippines) is going to be in it. I've been waiting for this. I am sick and tired of ads and commercials promoting skin whitening using already fairer actresses/celebrities, there are tons of them, targeting the low self esteem of the younger generation of Filipinos, programming them to believe that to be fairer is to be beautiful. Whitening is big business here.. it has got to stop. Thanks for this evidence-based commentary on the subject.

      Hey there! Glutathione can definitely help with hyperpigmentation, evening out your skin tone, and improving the overall quality of your skin. Glutathione is also known as the body's "master antioxidant". It fights off free radicals - the damaging molecules responsible for cell and tissue damage resulting in wrinkling, inflammation, melasma, and hyperpigmentation. Glutathione can also help to even out the skin tone by lightening dark spots and limiting the production of pigmentation. Hope this helps! :)

    I'm from the Philippines where colorism, discrimination and colonial mentality is rampant. It's really toxic. Advertisements lighten the skin of celebrities who you know to have more tan skin naturally. Some celebrities are coming forward, being more vocal about liking their brown skintone, but most people are still in the fairer-is-better mentality. It's used to judge people, from their personality to their likelihood to be hired in certain industries. The scar left by colonialism is deep.

      @lattehottey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @Kathe • I'm Filipino here in the Philippines with a dark skin tone. Spain, USA, and Japan colonized us, and most of our colonizers had white/light skin. It also stems from classicism since the thinking is pale = rich, does not need to work while if you have dark skin it means you are poor because you are working in the sun. It's really messed up but that's the general thinking. We want to lighten our skin because the beauty standard in SEA/East Asian countries is to lighten your skin as much as possible, even though we live in a tropical country.
      A lot of people are also discriminated against here because of their skin color, and the trauma of that discrimination makes people seek whitening problems. Some employers are also biased towards employers with light skin because they are believed to be more capable and smarter (though that is not true at all since it depends on the person, not their skin color) so it also has to do with employment prospects

      We have to go back to the 1500s’ when Spaniards ruled the Philippines for a long time, Filipinos have brown skin became slaves. Spanish with white skin are the masters. Then after the Spaniards sell the Philippines to the Americans, the white skin people, same story goes. After American the Japanese took over, again white skin, same story. Filipinos have been slave by white men for such a long time hence it was wired in their brains that white skin means wealth. Wealthy are beautiful. I don’t understand it as well but that’s where the obsession came from.

    "It’s partly to do with colonialism and in certain countries, people are seen as higher in social status if they have light skin. It is also combined with how the common beauty ideals we see are often Western beauty ideals."

      @Pedro Parica Since most far east people look similar in skin tone.The only difference is working outside..like in Europe.
      But the stigma was enhanced into a phenotypical superiority under colonialism.
      Look at India..most people there are medium to dark skinned..but since the British went there and promoted fair,ultra light skin even though maharajahs + wives were dark also.Their TV and culture promotes light skin and actively bully and treat people with brown skin differently..... medium/dark brown women...

    I am also a glutathione user before (may it be in capsule or through what they called IV push glutathione). To be honest, upon using the above-mentioned, my skin becomes lighter, but after I stopped, my skin gets back to its original tone. I am actually thinking just last week to try the IV therapy, hahaha but I took more research about it, and it's not yet proven that it's really for whitening skin (I saw on other doctors' videos that glutathione is taken by patients with cancer).
    So now I realized, my skin is still beautiful without taking the risk, I am not against from those people who uses glutathione, because I, myself, became once a user too.
    But I won't take any glutathione products anymore, It's even quite expensive to maintain though.
    Gladly, I didn't take glutathione for more than a year.

    I wonder what the mechanism is for glutathione to cause liver and kidney failure? It naturally occurs in the body and functions to rid the body of certain exogenous compounds protecting the body from potential toxicity. My guess is that these glutathione products are not pure and probably laced with other compounds which is not uncommon for unregulated products like this

    They do it because of a cultural colorism in Asia and the whole thing is something on the lines of: darker people being farmers or just working under the sun and pale people having a higher social status that usually could afford not to have to work under the sun for a living.
    In western countries used to apply the same theory in times of colonialism but nowadays rich people usually look tanned because they can afford the leisure time to go on vacations and get darker meanwhile poor people cannot. So poor people in western countries now are the pale ones sitting in a cubicle working the entire day and getting no sun. (Obviously there are exceptions to everything, like western construction workers being poor and tanned).
    So colorism changes depending on people’s jobs (sun exposure) related to status.

    I don’t know about lightening but it’s the only oral antioxidant I’ve ever taken that helped with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, problem is because it prevents tyrosinase I feel like it may have slightly worsened my depression because of it being a precursor to dopamine; so it solved a problem and created another. Obviously I’m aware of microdermabrasion and micro needling for scars, but when you’re taking isotretinoin you’re options are limited.

    I have been on the fence about whether or not I'd sub to you, especially after hearing your take on this and on MicroRollers. I feel like this entire video is all about pushing a narrative about how we should all 'embrace our own skin color' with a little bit of fear mongering thrown in here and there just for good measure. Loving and accepting oneself wholly and completely is undoubtedly a noble thing in and of itself, but it just cannot be passed off as facts.
    I have been taking Oral Glutathione supplements for years on end now, not for Skin Whitening Purposes, but to help make the symptoms of my Autoimmune Disorder a lot more tolerable and manageable. And it did. And if anything, it helped with me with my insomnia too. I wish you took a minute off your rant and actually talk about things on the other side of the spectrum, about how Glutathione is literally a wellspring of health benefits for us. I know there's not a "one size fits all" kind of answer to these kinds of questions, and a grey area definitely does exist, but it doesn't seem fair to scare people off from using the product, especially after Glutathione is medically proven to be a powerful Anti-Oxidant that is naturally created in our body.
    Granted, there are definitely people out there who find ways to abuse these kinds kinds of products for superficial reasons, but it doesn't seem fair to single out Gluthatione specifically ang go on a rant about how damaging it can be to our system when basically, any mineral/supplement taken in excess grants the exact same adverse effects.

      @nonamonsod 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I wish you’d try to watch the video again. I feel like there’s a huge disconnect between what she said to how you understood it. This entire video tackles glutathione FOR SKIN WHITENING, as it says in the title. It doesn’t talk about glutathione in line with other matters like what you mentioned (being an antioxidant, “wellspring of health benefits”, etc). This only discusses glutathione as being used in skin whitening. Just that. This video doesn’t tell you to embrace your own skin color (which isn’t such a bad idea). It just tells you that there aren’t substantial studies backing up the use of glutathione for skin whitening. This isn’t fear-mongering either, because she combed through studies and gave us her interpretation as an established medical professional. Fear-mongering would be saying things that aren’t based on facts to push your own agenda. She didn’t do that. In fact her statements were based on what she learned from the topic, and not hearsay. Glad that oral gt has been working for your auto immune disorder and insomnia. Great. But that’s literally not the topic here. She’s talking about gt as a skin whitener, NOT as an OVERALL INGREDIENT/SUPPLEMENT. So no, she doesn’t have to take a minute off of her “rant” to “talk about the other side of the spectrum”, because that’s just not what the video is about. She never said that gt is not good for anything. She just said it’s not good for skin whitening. She’s not scaring people off of using gt entirely, she just doesn’t recommend gt for SKIN WHITENING because a, it’s not substantiated and b, it’s reported to have undesirable effects. She even gave an alternative method for people who still wish to lighten their skin! That goes to say that she’s not discouraging you from whitening your skin, she’s just telling you that glutathione is not the right product to do it with. I’m rambling here but I hope my point came across to you. I do believe you’re a little disappointed that this doesn’t agree with what you believe in, but I do hope you’d find the time to watch this again, and possibly find other pieces of information you can benefit from.

What I find disturbing is that the darker skin tone people never consider themselves as beautiful, here makeup means getting fairer. Yeah! Even though different brands of makeup are avaible to suit everyone's skin type, still majority will use skin Whitening creams and products. While studies have shown oral and topical glutathione are safe for dietary supplementation and skin lightening, there have been no rigorous, large-scale studies on the use of an intravenous form for skin lightening or on its long-term side effects. Most of the evidence glutathione proponents point to comes from individual case reports or anecdotal experiences.

    I grew up in a “white” family as far back as anyone could remember. I am extremely fair. I burn within minutes being in the sun. I had freckles as a child. As a child of the 70’s sunscreen was just not thought of, despite the fact that I grew up 2 blocks from the beach and being on swim teams until late high school. I was taught not to pay attention to the color of anyone. Decide on your friends based on the type of person and character they had and not based on where they were from, who their family was, or how much money they made. Fast forward 30 years and I meet my husband who is Mexican. He came to the US at 11. What I found with his culture is that they are constantly comparing skin tones. There is a long standing joke in his family that he’s really black because his complexion is “so dark”. So when I met his many siblings I was expecting to see very fair skinned Mexicans. Nope, they were all brown. I wS honestly shocked at how “people of color” think about, judge, and focus on skin color. And have since found out that this is pervasive in African American and Asian culture. I honestly can say that I don’t get it. I think my husband’s skin is beautiful. And, of course, he ages outwardly much more slowly than I do. It’s sad that people are willing to put their health in jeopardy to maybe perhaps be an almost indistinguishable shade lighter in their skin tone.

Crazy how virtually everyone wants to change their skin color one way or another. It wasn't til my 20s when I realized how bad it was in the black community. I heard someone say, "she's acting light skin" and it was a WTF moment. Crazy pants. We all just gotta embrace the literal skin we are in.

      Dark armpit is caused by build up of dead skin cells from friction and irritation by remnant of deodorants.
      Try glycolic acid serum or lotion everyday at night before bedtime on a clean surface, wash and dry your armpit before applying it.
      You should be able to see result in 4 to 6 weeks time.

      They do it because of a cultural colorism in Asia is something on the lines of: darker people being farmers or just working under the sun and pale people having a higher social status that usually could afford not to have to work under the sun for a living.

      She pointed out how it CAN be dangerous when unregulated and administered in clinics by poorly trained staff and such. She pointed out how it can be adulterated and again, UNREGULATED. That’s your key word here. If you have lyme disease or malaria and your doctor treats you with glutathione then it must be fine. But if you’re doing it for skin whitening, she’s saying there’s no substantial evidence behind it for you to do it and that it can be risky. This video is about glutathione for skin whitening, not glutathione’s effectivity against lyme or malaria.
