My mother loved Burt Bacharach. In the summer of 1971, my folks and I traveled to California to spent the summer with relatives. I still remember how excited my parents were the night they went to see Burt Bacharach in San Diego. The were all dressed up, and had a wonderful time. I’ve seen him 4 times. I always think of my folks when I hear his music.
Haha that's so cool I'm from San Diego (still live here) turned 13 the summer of 71 and the Sports Arena was new back then. But I remember when Bacharach was in town because my Aunt and some of her friends went to see him. Small world. Think my folks woulda liked going but we were on holiday traveling camping trip that summer.
That was a special trip for my family. My folks approached me the year before, I got to decide if we had an in ground pool installed, or went to California for the summer to visit my moms sister, and her 5 sons. Since we lived in Michigan, I wanted to go to California and see my cousins. I also thought if we got the pool, I’d be the one maintaining it until I moved out. It was my first flight, and I begged my folks to see if we could fly on a 747. They tried, but 747’s were too big to land in San Diego at the time. I was disappointed, but still excited. I still remember just about everything from that summer. We went everywhere. The neighborhood in Poway my aunt and uncle lived looked like “The Wonder Years”. My dad left a month early to get back to work, my mom and I stayed until late August. She even started school clothes shopping for me there. When it was time for us to travel back to Michigan, my mom told me instead of Chicago, our layover would be in Los Angeles. It didn’t matter to me since I didn’t know any better. When we left the flight to find our new gate, my mom told me to sit with our bags while she checked in at the departure desk. She sat with me about 15 minutes later, I was looking out the window at the flights landing and taking off. Then I knew why we were in Los Angeles, a new 747 pulled up to the gate. I turned around and my mom was smiling. She asked if I was surprised. Of course I was. My dad had rebooked us after he arrived back home. I think it was the most thoughtful thing my dad ever did for me. It was a perfect summer I’ll never forget. I hope you had as much fun growing up in California as I had spending 3 months there.

Burt Bacharach is so handsome and talented. I love every one of his songs. He is a Legend . Such classic music he has written. Class act. So many decent people back then. Can't stand much of what we have today.
Am so glad I was able to see Burt Bacharach perform in San Diego a couple of years ago at an outdoor concert. He played the piano, as a trio of singers performed his music, with the exception of "Alfie." Burt with a very raspy, sometimes hard to hear voice, SANG as he played to an audience of about 3,000 people. You could hear "a pin drop", it was so quiet. When he finished, there was a roar of applause, and I actually teared up! What a true moment from a musical legend... Bravo Burt! 🤗
Burt always loved Hal’s lyric on Alfie and even though it’s a challenging melody for any singer, he seemed to enjoy doing it himself. And it was his understanding of the emotions behind the song that made him successful with it.
I saw BURT twice in the Netherlands. BURT, my music hero for 50 yrs. R.I.P. Burt. Than you for all those amazing songs that you left behind. A deep bow for this legend of music and very deep respect. There will never be another composer then that he was!
Wow 2 awards in one night amazing it’s worthy has beautiful songs Burt Bacharach your music lives on .. I was only 12 years old then ..but I enjoy your music until now ..
Excellent nominated scores/songs, all in different genres; Delerue, Williams, Gold, Michel Legrand...all giants in the industry and had multiple nominations and wins over the years. Music for film was written then without computers or synthesizers. Wonderful themes; not at all like the confusing scores for current films all generated by machines.
Ahhh Burt Bacharach what a cool time that all was back then and even tho I was just 9 then I remember it fondly and feel blessed to have lived though even a small part. I always remember a new green Pontiac Grand Prix Dad bought in 68 that had AM/FM "Stereo" which was a rather big new thing then, especially in a car. I remember Dad having to explain when the little red light came on it was a stereo station listen to the difference and there really was! LOL. But one of the first songs I remember playing on that Grand Prix stereo was Raindrops. 🤔 😎
There are so many comments telling that The Master Burt Bacharach did not deserved this 2 Oscars. Well I think they all are wrong and like always happens with Oscars, Mr. Bacharach received this award not just for the score of Butch Cassiddy, but also for his previus nominations for Alfie, and in special for The Look of love, 2 years before. To me Mr Bacharach is the best composer of the second half of the 20th. Century and I got to know about him for Close to you by The Carpenters and the Butch Casidy score and song in 1970. Communications in the 70^s in Bogotà and the rest of the world were completely different in those days.

Will Smith took the Oscars to a low I never imagined. Sad to see how much class, grace & respect the Oscars have lost over the years. It is unwatchable these days. These old clips are a classic delight! Burt Bacharach is a musical genius. Talented legend.

I Agree Burt Bacharach , just Awesome Period
Just look how beautiful his lovely wife Angie Dickinson is
I so agree. He was a good looking, classy guy with tons of talent. He is deeply missed. So is Hal David.

In the 1970s Burt Bacharach was unbeatable in his music and he sure deserved it
