I was never taught how to cut out!! This was so very helpful!! I can tell you were an excellent teacher!! I wish you were my teacher when I was in school!!!
I just found you about a month ago, and thought you "felt" like a teacher and you were/are! Perfect tips from the re-inking, to cutting off the antennae and lining it up with a stamped image and how to cut! It definitely takes practice to keep an even margin. Like another viewer said, it seems like we are sitting with an long time friend and enjoying your chatter. Thank you!
I didn't realise either that there was a correct way to hold scissors, I hold mine like your school children did 😊 Thank you for showing me, I appreciate learning something new ❤
I've never seen anyone explain cutting so thoroughly. I struggle with getting smooth cut-outs so I'm going to practice your method. Many thanks, Christine.
I was chuckling as soon as I saw the title of this video Chrissie. I know how much you hate the term people use to cutting out images and that made me chuckle even more with the cussing cutting. LOL I am left handed, so I've had a love hate relationship with scissors over the years. I do cut with my right hand as left handed scissors weren't a thing when I was a child. Some of my left handed boys/men were luckier than I with that. It has just been since I've seen card making, that I learned how to cut something out properly. It is because of people like you who share how to do it. I do find it relaxing to cut things out, not cussing cutting, but just practicing my technique. LOL Thanks for the video and chuckles! Hugs, Brenda
In case you didn't know, the term "Fussy cutting" was imported from quilting/ fabric crafts. I tries to google when the term appeared, but that was taking me down too many rabbit trails. 😅 And I thought I knew all the tips, but I'm going to have to check to see how I hold my small scissors. I don't know which finger goes in hole...I haven't thought about it in a LOOOOOONG time.
The term fussy cutting originated in the USA. from quilting etc. as you say.. I do use it. albeit in the UK. Many of my friends in the USA use the term in their paper crafting. An interesting dichotomy indeed!
Thank you for your educational post. I have said many times to myself that you must be a teacher or have been. I'm very impressed with the way you show and teach. 💖👌
Christine, I agree. I don't like the term "fussy" cutting. It's just cutting. You did a beautiful job with cutting. I use snips from a company I'm not sure I can mention. But, they work primarily as the one you used. Thank you so much for your tutorials. I enjoy them very much. Happy cutting! 🤗
I remember being horrified the first time I used them, at how dreadfully the ink smeared. I think I mainly used Stazon in those days. That's when I got my first Memento ink!🙂
I bet your little students loved you as their teacher!! I must remember that explanation for my little grandsons and my eldest granddaughter is a nursery teacher so I will tell her as well. 😄❤
Thank you for such great tips! I always say I was absent from kindergarten on the day they taught us how to use scissors. Cussy cutting is the perfect name. I have been trying to do it more these days. I need lots more practice. Thanks again!
I totally agree with you, "fussy cutting" what even is that? Yup folks, it's called cutting out, mind you, when I cut out, I now seem to have developed a permanent skip to the right, none of my lines are ever straight Chrissy 😂😂😂❤
I’m a cutting out person, so I am in your club. 😅 being left handed I had to find the best way of cutting out myself. In our school left handlers were a nuisance. Well high numbers in the classes didn’t help, different times.
I never thought of sticking the cut-out over a stamp - I usually just drew the antenna afterwards with a pen- not always successfully! Thanks for the idea.
Thank you! Always inspiring, love your stories from school! I love to cut-out everything and anything, but florals are my favorite! I use a finger blade for the intricate areas. ❤

Great advice, I love learning new or different ways of doing things ❤ can I say when re-inking your pads using the back of a spoon to push ink into and around the pad more evenly helps get a better coverage I learnt this from another crafter many moons ago.
My problem with cutting is when I go around a curve, I always trim too much off somewhere along the line and then I’m going back and trying to even out all the rest! Then I go back to that standby thought that it is handmade and these things happen! 😀
Thank you for the clear description of cutting out things. This will definitely help me with this. I find cutting things out very relaxing and like to do a whole bunch at once while watching television.
wow I've got to the ripe old age of ?? and never knew about using that next finger, l have loads of bother cutting and I'm always cutting the opposite way to everyone else as I'm left handed but I'm going to give your way a try. Seems not many were shown the right way. l bet you were a fab teacher. l call this cutting thing fumbling. 😂😂 Thank you. x
As a left hander, I find cutting out small shapes really difficult as the scissor blades are the wrong way round so it’s difficult to see where the lines are. I’ve tried left handed scissors but my brain is so accustomed to normal scissors I can’t get them to cut at all! You rdemo may finally help me to find a way to improve my technique tfs❤
For lefties you obviously have to go around the shape in the opposite direction, of course using left handed scissors. The bias on right handed scissors used in the left hand pushes the blades apart, whereas used in the right hand it squeezes the blades towards each other. Maybe I should get some lefty scissors and try with my left hand!
