  • I recently bought a few dolls from Hasbro's 1980s Jem and The Holograms line - Aja, Shana, and Synergy. Their hair was is rough shape. I show how I fixed it in this video.

    They look better than new, and those clothes look awesome on them. Especially Shana. That dress was inadvertently made for her, and her hair and make up colors. Stunning transformation.

    I just rediscovered the franchise through reruns and I'm planning on customizing my own Jem and Misfit dolls. For some reason, the thrift stores near where I live don't have dolls so eBay I go!

    I don't remember Synergy. I had the whole band as a kid in the '80s - Jem, Kimber, Aja, and Shana. I should've kept them but who knew there would be eBay back in the day? I took care of my dolls, too. Jem's earring would light-up when you'd flip a switch. 😂 They were great dolls. ❤

    Jem should have a new series that either have the canon of the 80’s series or the canon of the comics or even both

    I got a Stormer doll off ebay and her curls are wild! (similar to Shana) I'm thinking of redoing her curls using the boil method and straw (I just cant stand her doll WITHOUT curls, its too cute), this video helps alot with cleaning the hair prior to fixing! I'm glad you made this :)

    I bought Danse recently. So looking forward to seeing her I liked almost all her appearances except for the Robin Hood rip off episode in the 80s cartoon. I know she wasn't a Hologram...but love the rainbow hair and those blue eyes in the cartoon.

    I love my Shana…….and my Stormer…….and my JEM Rock n’ Curl…….dolls with big, BIG hair! Sorry, no straightening “hair relaxation” is allowed with these characters in my doll collection. I have a number of Synergy dolls, and the best way to avoid the mottling and yellowing is by not handling her because the natural oils from your hands will do their job on Synergy’s purple skin over time. Mine in her original outfit is perfectly mint and perfectly evenly purply all over.

    I now want to buy the originsl dolls, i only ever got Jem but i have always wanted the full set of both Jem and The Misfits but even now that could become a tad costly so I think I will just aim for the Holograms.
    Thank you though, at least now I can pull my Jem doll out and do a bit of a make over on her, be nice to get her back to how she used to look, I got the Glitter and Gold version so it will be nice to give her life again.

      I absolutely regret not keeping my original dolls. I had all the Holograms and Misfits, as well as Danse and Video. I think I had a Glitter and Gold Rio Doll.

      I will hopefully get a 1980s Jem doll in December. I bought Award night Jem recently (a limited release version) which I'm undecided as to take her out of the box. I bought her because she does not have too much of the weird make up near her eyes. But I really want to try to get clothes that are different from the ones on the cartoons on the dolls. And eventually even try to design different clothes for them.

    I’m surprised synergy’s legs and arms don’t stain everything! It looks like they just dyed the arms and legs after the fact

    Are you familiar with a version of rock and curl Jem which has star-shaped, light-up earrings, that don't have the little bubble in the center? I remember my friend's sister had one in the late 80's, and I found and bought (My first Jem doll, yay!) one on ebay with these earrings, and it was listed as a rock and curl, but other than those 2, I've never seen one, and I can't find anything online about this particular version or earring style. I'm just trying to find out what she is exactly, and when she was made. I've asked other youtubers with Jem collection videos, but haven't heard back from anyone yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Hmmm. I had two versions of the Jem doll face mold when I was a kid. The first wave original Jem doll had just the light up bulbs as her earrings and she was not smiling. The other face mold looked wider, and had a smile with star shaped earrings with a light up center. Those are the only two variations I am familiar with. I don’t believe I ever saw the Rock and Curl doll in person. Sorry.

    do some of these Jem dolls have polypropylene as their hair type?

    • @HoneyBeeHappyMe
      @HoneyBeeHappyMe  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Based on how it feels, I would guess yes. I’m not 100% certain. I do remember that some of my Jem dolls were much easier to style than others. That makes me think they may have used different hair fibers.

    yeah, so your Shana is 1986 Shana, since she has no earrings. 2nd gen had earrings i've learned.

    Does the Mr clean sponge hurt their makeup?

    • @HoneyBeeHappyMe
      @HoneyBeeHappyMe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually don’t scrub the painted parts of the face with Mr Clean sponge. I either lightly go over the face or only apply it to marks on the face to be safe.

    I ordered like 15 of these Jem dolls on ebay for $95 is that a good price? They are kinda dirty and all naked but i have loads of barbie clothing for them..

    • @HoneyBeeHappyMe
      @HoneyBeeHappyMe  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      15 for $95 is not bad if all they are is a little dirty. In my experience, in my area, they are hard to find and I have to get them off eBay. I have heard of people getting better prices if they can find them at a Thrift Store or Goodwill.
