    That scene at the beginning of the mirror enterprise episode, where it's the mirror zephram cochrane blasting the vulcans. I wonder if he had just been through the mirror version of the First Contact movie? What an awesome film that would be, they should do that!

    Finally finished watching this episode. I really enjoyed the episode. One thing i just thought of, was that it seems a little surprising that the women of the Mirror Universe Starfleet, to be wearing very sexy clothing, instead of the exact same uniforms that the men wear, to minimize the distraction of the women and thus be more efficient. Coming from that thought, Jolene Blalock and Linda Park looked very nice in their uniforms, and perhaps their mirror universe characters enjoyed being in a sexy uniform-it being a deliberate choice by themselves, in order to be more persuasive over their male counterparts. One last thing i noticed that it looked as if the Terran Empire may have already encountered and conquered the Romulan Empire, and absorbed some of their ships into the Mirror Starfleet. A few of the ships of "In a Mirror Darkly" show ships that almost look like they may have come from Romulan ship designers instead of human ones. Just something to think about. Great episode.

    That was an awesome intro guys! Doug always seems like he'd be a lot of fun to work with. I liked the idea of everything being so ramped up to try and out match opponents that the tech was killing the crews too. It adds this element of desperation and bloodthirst that seems fitting.

    Great episode guys and Drexler was very cool. I'm new to your shows but I love what I'm seeing. It sucks that it took Enterprise 2 seasons to realize "oh wait, we should actually call ourselves Star Trek", and it took them until season 4 before they realize "oh wow, we should BE Star Trek!!" Season 4 was the best, but it was too late. I loved that Mirror universe episode.

    I'd like them to talk about the warship version of Voyager. it wasn't the mirror universe but in sick bay a booth can clearly be seen. posibly as an omage to the mirror universe. Had the Terran Empire not fallen it could be speculated that a ship like the Voyager warship could have been manufactured by Mirror starfleet.

    • @DragoonMS
      @DragoonMS 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, while completely non-canon, the comics by DC that came out between Star Trek III & IV had a pretty good Mirror Universe story. ISS Enterprise gets blown up, Kirk and the gang take the Excelsior into the Mirror Universe posing as their evil counterparts, and somewhere along the way, they have a battle against a newly & rapidly made I.S.S. Excelsior. So if the Terran Empire's Starfleet Corps of Engineers is capable of scanning, studying, reverse engineering and building a ship that they never had (odds are the events of Star Trek III never happened in the Mirror Universe, as another shocker was that David Marcus was still alive) shortly after encountering it for the first time...yeah, they probably could've done it.

    If the Mirror Universe had the Constitution-class a century before the Prime Universe then wouldn't that have made the Mirror TOS-era Constitution a lot more advanced than its Prime counterpart?

    • @OpenMawProductions

      Probably not, because the mirror universe guys do not seem very good at upgrading their technology.

    • @beaney56
      @beaney56 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not necessarily. They would still have to understand the technology then develop technology to reverse engineer the advanced technology. Give a scientists in 1918 a smartphone from 2018 and ask them to replicate it! They wouldn't know where to start.

    +Trekyards My friends, it is "Broken BOW" as in bow and arrow, not broken bow as in a bow of a ship. It is the name of the town in Oklahoma where the Klingon crashed. It's Native American in origin hence the name Broken Bow.
    (And yes there really is a city named Broken Arrow in Oklahoma.)
    Broken Bow is quite a nice little town actually, despite the name. ;)

    Can I mention that it bugs me that the salute in the ENT episode is different from the one in Mirror Mirror. Mirror Mirror's salute was outstretched hand, as done by Doug Drexler, but in the ENT episode it was a fist like you guys were doing.

    • @MuscleDad420
      @MuscleDad420 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      kadindarklord customs, such as salutes, can change and evolve over time. Maybe the outstretched hand of "Mirror, Mirror" was turned into a fist to avoid potential comparisons by the FCC to a nazi salute? Perhaps to move it closer to the theoretical beginnings of the Terran Empire that began with ancient Rome? This is what makes Trek fun!

  • @CommandLineVulpine
    @CommandLineVulpine 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I thought it pretty specifically said they were Pulse Phase Canons.
    They did in a non-Mirror episode say that Columbia was getting Pulse Phase Canons, so if in the Mirror Universe they rushed weapons tech it would make sense that's what they have.
    Also now that we have Star Trek Beyond, where technically things they establish as pre-TOS could be considered canon, Franklin had Pulse Phase Canons that look very similar to that.

    • @OpenMawProductions
      @OpenMawProductions 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We did see Columbia firing her "pulse phase cannons" in an episode, and they, unfortunately, look like regular phase cannons. No real difference.
      The pulse cannons ISS E fires are similar to what she brought to bear in Broken Bow, only at a faster rate.

    • @CommandLineVulpine
      @CommandLineVulpine 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OpenMawProductions I think these are mostly just inconsistencies(that we unfortunately have to treat as canon).
      They probably just want to have something fun to shoot in the pilot to excite people. Because afterwards Enterprise suddenly jumps to being completely unarmed saved for uncalibrated Merculite torpedoes.
      Then I think Columbia seeming to not shoot pulse phase canons was they just forgot. If I'm not mistaken them mentioning Columbia under construction and getting those happened in Season 4. Then seeing Columbia in action didn't happen till (late?) season 5.
      Regardless I think it's safe to say ignoring any other technically, the Empire would focus on weapons tech above all else, it doesn't make sense for them to be using an inferior weapon than the prime timeline Enterprise.

    Between conquering several alien races having the Defiant early, and always being at war the Terran Empire would be much more advanced than Starfleet.

    I think Doug must have considered when making the ISS Enterprise that the markings are stylized laurel leaves, and the color is gold, long associated with Roman and Byzantine Emperors.

  • @anothercleverusername992

    This was my last favorite ship, especially called *Enterprise...*
    But every time I hear him talk about the fucking GENIUS that that is the _design_ and _actual logic_ that went into it on both the real world end and within the Canon... It moves up a spot, everyone.
    Wish the show would've gotten to show off it's planned, eventual progression into a more familiar *Constitution Class* looking ship.

    The one thing that I never understood about the Mirror Universe is that they did not have the Vulcans stopping humans with their NX programme for more than a century as it did with the Primary Universe, so how is it that they took just as long without the Vulcans in this Universe?In the first ENT episode Broken Bow, the young Jonathon Archer says that they would be doing warp 5 if the Vulcans didn't stop them, and that was what 30 years before he commanded Enterprise... So what is with that? I never understood that.

  • @GordonMassie

    Good episode. I'd quite like to see a Mirror Universe NX Refit, although do you think the Terran Empire made the Refit before or after Starfleet?

    • @enterprise-h312
      @enterprise-h312 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gordon Massie Considering they constantly added and refitted I do not think there was much need for them to create the bigger NX-Refit and once they got the Constitution-class they probably skipped the NX-Refit altogether.

    • @GordonMassie
      @GordonMassie 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Enterprise-H Probably although the Constitution Class is 3 times the size of an NX Class, even reverse engineering the Defiant would they be able to make a jump like that? Also I imagine that Empress Hoshi would want the most powerful ship for herself. :)

    The Mirror universe Rick Berman might actually be able to write good scripts!

    • @adammclaughlin845
      @adammclaughlin845 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rick Berman sucked hard. He just sucked. Repetitive, unintelligent stories with very little drama. Rigid adherence to rules that might have worked in the 1960s but were archaic by the 2000s. Restricting his actora from showing emotion. Watch a season 4 episode of Stargate SG1 or a season 3 Stargate Atlantis and compare them to most of Voyager and Enterprise.

  • @fmlazar

    I always took that it was implied that the mirror universe was the result of a different decision during first contact stuff with the Borg. "They're good guys, but now we know there is a very serious threat out there (the Borg) these guys (Vulcans) have much more advanced tech, let's take it for ourselves."

    • @thribs

    The mirror universe ISS NX Enterprise should have had an extra nacelle and more external weapons on its outer hull. This would have given it a mean, threatening , and intimidating look. I am surprised they never bothered to make the TOS mirror universe Enterprise episode more threatening and damaged looking configuration ( extra nacalles and weapons) when they added new CGI effects for the Bluray release.

    Ok here is a conundrum for you Cpt. Foley. If the mirror universe had ahold of a Connie which was so much more advanced why do you think they didn't progress from there, a fleet of Klingons and Cardassians would have been nothing for the Terran Empire but according to a mirror Kiera Narris the Klingon/Cadassian Allience defeated the Terran Empire at Wolf 359 and enslaved them. This makes me think that the prossibilities for having the normal universe USS-Defient were squandered and they didn't advance as much as they could have.

    • @Lokiawa
      @Lokiawa 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      They probably did advance but their super advancement in tech more than likely left them in a rut by the time the Cardi and Klingon Alliance attacked, until some of the DS9 gang crossed over and accidentally or by force advanced the Terran Empire.
      *I'm just going by what I saw in the Mirror episodes of ST.

  • @OpenMawProductions
    @OpenMawProductions 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do you keep harping on better tech commander? The ISS NX is still using it's pulse cannons in the episode. There's clearly some places where they haven't matched prime time. The warp core humming faster could simply mean they run it at a higher "torque" than we do in the prime timeline because the technology isn't as refined? I mean, I never got the impression the Mirror guys were that much better off in any way than we are, and that's the testament to their foolish behavior. They take short cuts, they steal what they aren't smart enough to come up with themselves, and as a result you end up with inferior tech.

    • @still_guns
      @still_guns 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pulse cannons from In a Mirror Darkly are clearly not the same as those from Broken Bow

    • @OpenMawProductions
      @OpenMawProductions 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They fire faster, sure, but who knows if that's at a cost of them overheating faster? If anything it indicates that their cutthroat behavior has forced them to refine more primitive tech instead of making the leap to large scale phased weapons.
