Join us as we delve into the remarkable journey of Paul McGrath, a name synonymous with exceptional talent and dedication. McGrath's journey is not just a tale of sporting excellence; it is also a deeply personal story of battling demons and overcoming personal struggles with heavy addictions.
Paul McGrath was born in Greenford, Middlesex, to a Nigerian father and an Irish mother. McGrath's life was complicated from the start. His father left before he was born, and his mother, Betty, faced the daunting challenge of raising a child considered illegitimate and born of an interracial relationship in a society that was far less accepting than today. Fearing the judgment of her father and the community, Betty secretly went to London for Paul's birth, returning to Ireland only to have her baby forcibly taken and placed into foster care by members of the Catholic Crusade in Dublin. - กีฬา
wasted? he won the fa cup with man utd, the league cup twice with villa, the pfa players player of the year and played in the world cup 1/4 final. show some respect. thats very far from being wasted
OO arr Paul McGrath, OO arr Paul McGrath, if u got a chant of ur own at Old Trafford & Dublin ur doing ok i reckon. The narration on this post is awful btw.
He was a class player
He lives up the road really nice guy helps charity's all the time and people around here he's a legend
You are absolutely spot on Paul Gates
hardly wasted - still revered as one of the best of his era
Pound for pound he was the best player to ever play for Ireland
Agreed. 100%
1 of the best to play for lreland, him and chippy,
What a fella. Maximum respect for this man.
Just to note. You do not pronounce the ‘th’ at the end of Paul’s surname. Phonetically it sounds like ‘Magraa’. Don’t wish to sound pedantic but I’m Irish and know how it is pronounced. And he’s a legend here and despite his trials and tribulations.
Sounds like the narration is done by AI tbf
Jack Charlton lost his memory, but the name Paul McGrath , brought a smile to his face .
I have had the pleasure of talking to PM. He is a really nice guy
World class
Most solid central defender I ever saw. Game after game never put a foot wrong. Feared by attackers everywhere!
In the excellent documentary Finding Jack Charlton the only player Jack recognised was Paul. Say no more. National treasure and now a citizen of the republic of Wexford. Loch Garman abu. 🇮🇪
Paul could have played for any Top team in any era , Without doubt Great Great Player
Ireland loves Paul Mc Grath, legend and top man
Top bloke, great player. Has his issues, but fair play he try’s hard.
Hardly wasted he played at the top level and with a addiction. Good player.
Wasted? What planet are you living on? Paul McGrath was one of the best defenders ever to play in The premiership (and Division 1) and one of the best players ever to put on the Ireland jersey. The guy is a legend.
Don't really follow football but I do know of Paul and his struggles. Whenever I have seen him on tv he seems a nice fella and I am sure that with his higher power he will be able to help others who are struggling. Best wishes to him.
How dare you.
Post a 'wasted career' to drag this great man down.
Paul is a beautiful loving soul.
You put judgement on this man who's career only a modern Irish player could only dream of having.
Think twice about how you portay people.
If you are historian, then do it properly
Tonight mate
Simple uncomplicated Racism!! 🇬🇧
@WesleyWattley-xy4fg
There's no evidence it's racism at all, just because Paul had mixed heritage, that isn't the reason the video headlines such a negative approach.
What we can do is look at how much care is put in to a video to portray people who have struggled in life by saying, absolutely none.
Yes Armyoflove you are right. As you well know there was many facets to the amazing career the Legendary Paul McGrath had . Yes he had and have his struggles but what he done in football career by having littery no knees to play with hence he hardly trained as he was a genius minded football player.
I saw the amazing documentary on the Legendary Paul McGrath some years back and as you well know Manchester United wanted him to sign a one off insurance type payment in order he agreed he was finished in football. Players with great knees could not hold a candle to the special ability Legendary Paul McGrath had in mine and many peoples opinions.
But he spoke to Kevin Moran Manchester United/ Republic Of Ireland player about his situation which led him to carry on playing football.
What the Legendary Paul McGrath done at Aston Villa was absolutely amazing and i am sure he moved in the then Aston Villa manager Graham Taylor who took him under his wing to nurture him, give him guidance and give him all the support and love in the world 🌎 that in turn helped Paul McGrath to flourish at Aston Villa winning player of the year awards at Aston Villa.
The amount of Republic Of Ireland caps which I am sure is 80 caps plus was true testament to the man and a fantastic outstanding achievement as well due to the nature , chronic condition of his knees.
Paul McGrath was an absolute legend in reading the game for sure . ( Please correct me if i have made an error in my post as it was years ago since i watched the amazing documentary on Paul McGrath ) Who battled many battles on many levels from his early career and beyond.
The documentary portrayed Paul McGrath as a lovely ,kind ,heart warming person with a troubled soul . I so wish him all the best for for now and beyond.
Great talent, should’ve been the cornerstone of Sir Alex’s great Man Utd teams for many years
A pure genius and a lovely man

Always rated McGrath, absolutely incredible player, & v underrated i always thought. Im a London born gooner, but always rmbrd his performances for both Villa & Ireland, that were generally always stand out performances. Also the fact I shared similarities with him, in that my mum was also Irish (from Wexford funnily enough, & my dad was also from West Africa), so we had that in common. Always knew he had his demons, but after watching ths (excellent piece btw), I have an even greater admiration & respect for him. True legend of the game 🙏
Pure class 😎👍
Rememberd at villa as the best centre back they have had
This is a wasted channel 😂
Paul Mcgrath is a LEGEND
Still, god to me bless him
Apparently he did little in training but boy what a player
Yep, he needed the time to recover after matches because his knees were shot.
Proper solid centre half top top professional again another super human along with Sir Norman Wisdom shows you can achieve any goals you set ,if you believe in yourself anything is possible simply look at Paul .

Sports Icons only get on YT by click-baiting. They couldn’t get a story straight to save their lives and shouldn’t be on here.
100%! It's AI generated bollocks. Not to be confused with journalism. Should at least come with a warning.
Bloody hell im suprised he get didn’t get a whole life sentence for his crimes

Hate the way you pronounce his surname , it''s McGraa
Its a pity any of the pre Madonna's puffs that play now are not more like him
Very frustrating, mcgrath , pronounced mcgra , not MCGRATH,
