- like her or not, kim kardashian is an icon. a legend in her own right. she WILL go down in history as a mover and shaker in her industry, similar to the marilyn monroes of yesteryear. but is this a good thing? or are we putting potentially problematic people in positions of huge power and influence? kim kardashian has made no secret of the fact that she desired fame and fortune from a young age, and would stop at nothing to get it. and she got it! but at what cost? and what effect on society has her achieving her goal of world domination had? kim and her sisters are generally regarded as having had a negative influence on beauty standards everywhere. but is that fair? or is kim simply a victim of fame and fortune?
KK is an icon that represents society's propensity toward gluttony, excess, and narcissism in the pursuit of social clout and adoration.

I am generally the same age as Kim, give or take a couple years… I can remember way back when in the late 90’s and early 00’s when Paris and Nicole were huge, Heidi and Spencer were talked about, the Hill’s was crazy popular, and no one knew who Kim K was… what a time to be alive.
Fast forward 20+ years and the youth of today are so incredibly different. I’ve apparently turned into that old lady that all ‘when I was your age!!!’ 😂

Thank you! My grandmother, mother, and I have this body shape naturally. We’re Puerto Rican, which makes us one of the most mixed people in the world (indigenous, African, and Spanish heritage). I heard about the “home video” tape backstory and voicemail couple weeks back and I must say it’s not completely surprising. I just assume these people are materialistic and un-genuine. I was once accepted into a choir that would travel the world and sing at Disney World, etc (I'm from Australia), but I rejected the offer because I was too scared. I have more confidence now, but the idea of being famous is off-putting. Even just creating a TH-cam channel and having thousands or millions of people know me isn't appealing.

That’s very interesting! When I was watching the clip here of her in high school, her obsession with future fame was deeply disturbing. I thought to myself, what childhood trauma did she have that made her become so obsessed with having status (e.g. neglect, not being treated equally compared to siblings, obsessive parents etc.).
This makes sense because if she got a taste, and liked it, that could birth an obsession like this.
Those videos of her as a teen - she looks pretty insufferable... but props to her for achieving her goals in life. No issue with her cosmetic surgery (alleged) but I wish she would just be honest about it instead of lying to people. Anyone with eyes and half a brain cell can see that figure didn't 'just happen' by nature or exercise - and that's ok. It's the pretending everyone can have the same by just exercising and taking this or that product that I despise. Just be honest!

Kim Kardashian makes me question how we look at past icons. Especially with the ongoing exploitation of Marlyn Monroe and other women of the Entertainment history. When I was younger, my Mom pointed out some stretch marks I had on mu butt and I looked up "Celebrities with stretch marks" to try and cope. Then I found Kim Kardashian say that her biggest fear is having stretch marks, and I still remember that screen do this day... it's scary how much influence people like this have on others.
I have stretch marks on my hips/butt and I think they're really beautiful. I don't to sound cliché but they really do look like nature's art on your body. It's time we stopped shaming stretch marks. They're natural and normal. Most of them are because of genetics. And I'm not going to hesitate to call them beautiful, just like I don't hesitate to call eyes beautiful.
