Not allowed to record at crossing points Maggie, but at the moment we have to show passport or ID vaccine cert, negative test and 3rd party insurance. That's hoing across and coming back the same except the insurance.
Really well done. We feel we are walking with you. So sad this suspended modernity. If it was opened up fully again would most of the buildings still be structurally sound and capable of renovation?
Around 5:00 - The "OL" was originally "COLT", referring to the Mitsubishi Colt, a compact car sold since the 1960s. I saw a 1974 Colt brochure and the font matched, so that sign was probably pretty new at the time. Probably put up in 1973 or 1974. I had originally thought it meant "GOLF", as the top part said "FAIRWAYS" but I saw a video recorded around 1 October 1974 where there were still Mitsubishi Motors signs up. Also the COLT was originally red. Full disclosure, I was born when Varosha had already been abandoned for 18 years. July 10, 2022 7:18 am
After the Footloose karaoke and sports bar, you might wanna go to the Paddy's Irish bar too, and say hello to the owners there, George!? Do say hello from me, Jørn🙂
Fairways was the name of the Mitsubishi dealership in Varosha. The OL is the remaining letters from the car they were promoting at the time of the military action (C)OL(T).

Ooh thanks for the information Michael.
I'm from the USA. What made this area a ghost town?
There was an invasion in 1974 by the Turkish army, and they are still occupying 1/3 of the island.
@@CYPRUSINSIGHT thank you
Interested and sad. Xx
yes it is.
Jet was a clothing manufacturer
Ooh thanks for the info Chris.
1000 mils would have made 1 cyprus pound. Post-1982 the cyprus pound was redominated to 100 cents with 10 mils being 1 cent.
Oh thanks for the info.
