Tips for ibis paint x. (Pin if you want to) Add Layers - -Layers are very useful because you can make many layers. -With hand drawing, you have to draw everything on one piece of paper, so it takes time to erase the traces of drafts. -I’ve seen this in many editors art on the forums, but a lot of editors color on the same layer as an outline that they have or they add layers above their art and color Do not do this!!! Your outline will get lost and it will look messy. When coloring, add new layers under the outline layer and create a new layer for new colors (highlights, shadows, hair base, hair highlights etcetera) this will make it easier for you in the long run because if you need to erase something, you’re not erasing everything else either. Stabilizer- -Stabilizer makes lines smooth and straight. -It is also recommended when doing lineart or sketch. Force Fade- -The force fade tool will help when you want the edges to get smaller and have a ‘point’ at the end. Canvas Size/Sizes -A lot of newbie editors/artists tend to just have their canvas at 1000x1000 or something, but this is considered a small canvas, which would result in lower quality art (pixelated lines, harder to control your brush) but when you have a bigger canvas, the line will be neater. I recommend something in the 2000s (ie; 2100x2100) though if your canvas is too big, you won’t be able to add many layers. Magic Wand and Lasso and Selection Layer- -I did not know about this when I first started editing, but when I learned about it, it changed my life! These tools will select a certain area of your art and even if you accidentally color out of the lines, it won’t let you color out of that selected area! -But the magic wand will not select anything with openings in the outline(s). -In that case you could either use the lasso. -Or the selection layer (color in the parts you want selected). Advice for IbisPaint X users Ibispaint x is an app available on iPhone and Android. Although the program is generally pretty easy compared to other programs, it can be quite confusing at the start. I would like to make the process of learning it easy for everyone :) Sketching You can use any brush you want! Just be sure that you don't get the sketch layer confused with the finalized layers. You can do this by tapping the layer button, at the bottom you can select the opacity for the layer with a slider. Be sure you can still see it! Lineart When doing lineart, if you would like straight and sleek lines be sure to turn up the stabilizer (I usually turn it up to 10) you can find the stabilizer settings up at the pointer finger. The stabilizer is the top slider. In my opinion, the best brushes to do lineart with are Dip pen (hard), Felt tip pen (hard), and watercolor (point). In order to change your brush click on the circle in between the brush icon and the color selector. The first two are near the top but the point watercolor brush requires quite a bit of scrolling to find. If you would like to make colored lineart, once you are done with the lineart then add another layer and clip it to the lineart layer. In order to clip a layer to the one below it click the "clipping" button right above the layer opacity slider. Now if you add colors on the layer they will only be where the lines are. You can have multiple layers clipped to the same one if you'd like. (NOTE: layers cannot be clipped to a layer that is also clipped, it will clip to the closest layer below it that is not clipped.) Coloring The best way to color your piece is by filling in the lines with a color that will not be used in your piece. Add a layer under the lineart and color in. Once that is done you can add clipped layers above it for the coloring so you can stay in the lines. (See clipping tutorial above) Shading Shading is actually quite easy in ibispaint once you get the hang of it (surprisingly). First add a clipped layer above the coloring layers (See tutorial in "lineart" section). Then select the layer tool. Right above the opacity slider there's a little box that should say "normal" click the box and tap "multiply" in the "darken" section. Now choose any light color (I'd recommend red blue or lavendar) and start shading. Painting Using IbisPaint for painting is actually quite difficult (ironically). If you're looking to pursue painting as a career I would not recommend using this app as during projects with lots of strokes, the canvas begins to crash and you're exited to the home screen. Although if you're just looking to start this will work fine. Brushes either are really glitchy or mediocre at best. The best one out of all of them in my opinion is the flat brush (real). (I hope if you were having trouble this helped a bit. If I missed something and/or you are confused about something go ahead and comment and I'll try and reply.)
