The 40s Placid was better. If I remember right, the trapway got changed from 2 1/2" on the 40s models to about 2 1/8" on the 50s and ongoing Placid. I have no idea why they would do that. The extra large trap passes large objects but it also slows down the speed and velocity of the water flowing though so that might explain the long slow flush.
That's amazing! The 40 Placids had a much larger trapway than the later ones. It was actually more like a one piece version of the Channel toilet, which was Kohler's best 2 piece back in the 40s and 50s. That style base first came out on the Welland, Placid and Channel toilets in the early 40s, when most other Kohlers had the octagonal base.
