But it is Jumpman, that’s what he was originally called
J M but he was renamed Mario, so he's still Mario. Even the DK NES manual booklet calls him "Mario."

How a typical Saturday morning in the early 80's was for some kids; you would be watching a video game themed cartoon, (Pac Man, Donky Kong, Dragons lair, ect.) get a cartoon themed bumper to and from the commercials, (after these messages we'll be right back) and then see several commercials like this that were video game themed.

It may have been. The Saturday Supercade CBS cartoon series had Donkey Kong shorts, but started in 1983. If I recall correctly Donkey Kong cereal came out before that by quite some time.
Notice the boy in the DK cereal commercial, too. He'd later play Zack Morris in NBC's Saved by the Bell series.

Wow, I can't believe Pac-Man cereal lasted long enough to try to cash in on the Ghostbusters craze. Or that Super Pac-Man sounds disconcertingly like Gargamel. (My favorite Pac-Man cereal ad is, of course, the one where kids dressed in 1980s fashions do the hand-chomping Pac-Man dance.)
It's worth note that Pac-Man Cereal didn't debut until 1983, the year before Ghostbusters came out. But to blow your mind further, it wasn't discontinued fully until 1989... though I think several of those latter years were Canada-only. Pac-Man Pasta from Chef Boyardee also lasted longer than you'd think it would... I recall seeing it on the shelf in 1987.

I believe it was the voice of Gargamel as Super Pac-Man.

I remember the SMB3 commercial... I used to have it in my brother's old self-recorded SMB Super Show VHS when I was young, along with the Chip and dale Rescue Rangers Happy meal McDonalds commercial.
That was LONG gone, though!
My favourite Happy Meal toy surprise was the Sonic 3 ones! I always wanted Knuckles.
I've still never seen it turn up on TH-cam, but I recall a RC Cola commercial with a knockoff "Mario" making his way to the top shelf of a refrigerator.

Man, nostalgia is nice. Looking back at these, though, I can see how insidious it all was. I have to wonder about how much of my childhood was my own, and how much of it was dictated to me.
I actually credit this fact to the rise in popularity of comic book movies, collecting old pop culture and video game items, etc. Star Wars, Masters of the Universe, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, MTV, the rise of the World Wrestling Federation.... all a result of the first true generation of modern marketing. To at least some extent, we all fell in love with that stuff because of how they force fed it to us, even if I'm sure some people can't truly admit that. None of it caught on organically.
Another example of the same era, like him or not: Donald Trump. The only credit I'll give him is that of a master personal brander, as he's a presidential candidate now for God's sake.
Did you like it because it was good? Or was it good becaused you liked it. Interesting question. Just remember though, there are plenty of pop culture that has fallen to obscurity because of its crappiness.
Also remember at the same time these commercials aired there were people in Russia waiting in food lines to get a loaf of bread.

The funny thing is that this is a food-and-drink ad compilation, but it managed to sneak in a commercial for medicine (the Pac-Man Olina ad)
These tv commercials are fun because they’re video game themed featuring famous fictional video game characters which makes me enjoy these video game commercials even more.

A few of those sounded like Rob Paulsen (Yakko Warner, Raphael/Donatello, Mighty Max)--especially Mario in that first DK cereal commercial.
Albylion Donatello's voice Barry Gorden was the Nestle Quick Bunny. Before it was renamed "Nesquick."

I used to eat it! They called the Chex cereal pieces "ninja nets" on the box. I got a flipbook as a prize; it was the scene from the TMNT 2 movie where Vanilla Ice was performing "Go Ninja Go" at a concert and the Ninja Turtles were breakdancing!
They also had cookies, which I want to eat as well.
This is some amazing animation for the 80's. This definitely competes with the animation we have today.

So what if it was glitter and glamor for the video arcade game machine industry in those days back then during the entire 1980s. Even though it was good that I ventured further into 1986 to 1989. I discovered TV commercials I've never seen before. I still can't help but keep thinking back of the time when Ed Ferraro was alive and well on this earth, and I missed the field trip with him to pigeon point lighthouse: back then in April 1985.

Yes. He was Mario as early as August 1981 according to a myriad of promotional material for the game. The notion that he wasn't named Mario until way later are false; he was already Mario just weeks after Donkey Kong's original release.
