    Karl has a point here, changing an experience that you regret would destroy any lessons you've learned from it, and observing a memory is pointless because you remember it anyway

    • @jeremyc9593
      @jeremyc9593 4 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      He didn't have to change it, nor can a person remember every fucking second of their life. Most of the time Karl makes a good point, which Ricky and Steve usually can't follow. Not this time though. As Steve points out, it's just an utter lack of imagination on Karl's part.

    • @linebeck1381

      memory is actually a very creative process, its very unlikely that the way you remember something happening is actually the way it happened. so i disagree that you would remember it anyway.

      @@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502 no I’m saying that if he time travels and changes something that happened, then everyone in the world would not know what was changed except for the person who changed it. So, in turn, he would be the only one who remembers.

    I have so much respect for Karl. There is so much to appreciate about the fact that he is just that zen about his life. No matter how much they give him grief, he is like the Tao of Pooh... he just is... and finds peace in that... not to mention he observes without judging. So pure.

      @@tacaraelam7775 well maybe she was? We are all lazy every once and a while and some of us are firm about committing to it and some of us aren’t... she was firm in her conviction to be exhausted and inspired others to stand their ground... just because his language is sub par doesn’t mean the analysis is too far off base. 🤷‍♀️ there are times I would rather feel like getting arrested than moved from my spot too. Doesn’t downplay what became of it in her case, but it is funny to think it might have just been that simple. 😂

    • @CactusCowboyDan
      @CactusCowboyDan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@smilesfordays What does it matter if she was lazy or not? The point is that she was told to move from her seat because they treated her like a subhuman for being black. And when she refused to move it offended the white supremacy that was in the position of power at the time.

    • @smilesfordays
      @smilesfordays 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@CactusCowboyDan Karl doesn’t see that. The point is if you allow the frustration of the past to leave you for a couple minutes and don’t look at the systemic problems and find the humor that an entire movement could have started because one woman’s feet hurt too much, it allows you to appreciate future events and current ones in a more basic light. Everyone insisting she was doing it for the rights of everyone is projecting their intentions on the situation. She would not have known what the consequences of that decision would be... she probably thought something hilarious like “I’d rather be arrested than move right now.”
      The sensitivity of people who have nothing to do with that situation at the time and their glorifying that one particular moment does a disservice to the rest of the entire movement. Singling our one moment as a catalyst causes a disconnect between the real work that was done every day by other people to make things happen.
      I was only talking about Karl’s ability to look beyond those singular moments we have been taught to hold more value to and, despite his admittedly horrible communication of his thoughts, finds other means of thinking and points that others blinded by the perceived worth of a moment or event would be blind to. It’s fascinating.
      Also, it does matter how she was feeling and what she was thinking. You’re discounting that day in her life and putting your own worth on the outcome rather than appreciating how she would have felt and why she said those things... that’s limiting your ability to see others for who they are and how they feel by only valuing how those people have helped or will help someone else. You’re not seeing an individual’s worth unless they do something you think is “right” to you. Like think about that shit...

      She was involved in civil rights/NAACP for a long time.
      And she was not the first person to refuse to move. She’s the most famous and a catalyst tho.
      “People always say that I didn't give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn't true. I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a working day. I was not old, although some people have an image of me as being old then. I was forty-two. No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in.”
