@@ArtySubu I find it hard to resist when I see all of the paints , pencil, markers etc all stacked in their beautiful colours…and I live in Asia so there are some products that I often see used or mentioned that I can’t easily get. You were very restrained…I was impressed .
I've never managed to make the long trek to the physical Jackson’s store, thank you for taking us on a tour! I've only recently bought the QoR 12 half pan palette and the colours are super vibrant and go a very long way with the tiniest dab of the brush.
You're welcome! I shop online mostly too and now am tempted to go to the main Jackson's store too though it's very far from me! 💛 Good to know the QoR is good. How's the lightfast-ness?
I'm doing the low-buy again next year 👀 so... We'll see how that goes! Also got a few other drawing-related resolutions like finishing all the classes I bought last year! 😂
Yay!! At last a British art store video!! so so happy to have found you. Live in Devon, but have family in Surrey which is easily within reach of Fulham, so will be planning a visit next year!! Thank you soo much. xx
That's like heaven ❤ i wish our art stores had that much variety. And you can actually check the sketchbooks out! Ours always have them packed in plastic 🙄
It's really my happy place! 💛 Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍🏼 Some stores here do have them wrapped up, especially the expensive Arches ones. I might try and film at more stores if I can get permission.
Nice to see inside the store, thanks for the tour! It's the other end of London to me too, so I've only shopped online with them. I feel a day out is needed to go down there in the new year, after payday!
I went here myself only about a month ago just to poke around, but it’s so fun watching others window shop too! I believe I also saw schminke gouache in L. Cornelissen & Son near tottenham court road! A very pretty and old art shop if you’re ever in that area
We don’t have a Jackson’s physical store in Victoria Australia I’d give anything to go through one. QoR watercolours, are what I call dancing pigments. You only need a little bit wet your paper and drop in some colour and it simply explodes and does it’s own thing. If you like to really control your pigment and you don’t like movement this is definitely not for you. However, if you’re like me and you love the Watercolour to do its thing and have a mind of its own. This is the most spectacular thing to watch. They have their own patterns medium that they use as a flow agent for their paints. I have never come across another Watercolor that moves like it, however in Australia it is extremely expensive. My understanding is that the light fastness is extremely high. They are owned and made by the golden brand
Do you have an equivalent store near you or do you order online from Jackson's? Good to know those details about QoR. Might try them sometime! They sound brilliant for sketchbook play!
@jessbutterfly9801 A lot of the Rosa Gallery watercolors move in water like QoR. I have the split primary set of QoR and some Rosas. Maybe you could get Rosa where you are more cost effectively, I’ve found them on Amazon and on Etsy.
Thanks for the information @styleandbeautydirect ... I've got Cotman watercolours already and barely use them, so no Qor or Rosa for me anytime soon :D
@@ArtySubu the paper, probably the same pads you got plus a stillman & Bern sketchbook, just to try it. Mind you, it would be a hard choice because that place is packed lol!
@@CherylsCreativeWorld33 I was SOOOOO tempted by the Stilman and Birn! But they are pricey and so I put them back! Already have a stash of empty sketchbooks too including Odd Orange ones.
Wow, I didn’t realise I was so close to this when I’ve been to my chiropractor a few tube stops away, that’s funny. What a trove of colourful things on so many shelves, it’s such a maze. The 14B pencil is interesting, I’ll look that up.
Ooh, will you pop by the next time you go to your chiropractor? That'd be a treat wouldn't it! 14B has become my favourite sketching pencil since it doesn't have a shine! 💛
I hate when I buy pads people have rubbed their fingers on like that. I’ve tried to watercolor on an unwrapped WC pad that someone had put their skin oil on and there were fingerprint sized blobs that resisted water. At ~ $2/sheet especially. I wish there were touchable samples of papers so we could test them and get a feel for their qualities without affecting something someone else might end up buying.
Ooh, never thought of that! The more expensive pads always have one sample out and the rest shrink-wrapped... But I guess you could pick one from the bottom of the pile to buy! 💛
A video I have missed...I love Jacksons, I spend way too much money with them, lol!! I chuckled when you said you were too short to reach the top shelves....at only 5 foot myself, I know what you mean!! Luckily My husband is 6 foot 2, and is good at reaching for me!! Lovely haul, I really want to try W&N gouache, am I right in thinking you can use water to re-wet that particular type o the paint!!?? Have a lovely week!!xx
Haha! I'm 5 foot too, with a 6 foot husband who does the tall-person stuff! Useful, aren't they?! 🤣💛 Yes, traditional gouache is rewettable. In fact, I mostly use it re-wetted rather than fresh from the tube. I'll be doing a video soon on that.
@ArtySubu they really are useful, lol!! I've been looking at gouache, I've got acrylic, but I'll definitely be treating myself to some traditional gouache!!xx
Sounds good! I also got myself some lovely super matte medium from Golden that gives an acryla-gouache effect to acrylic that is really smooth and more cost-effective. 💛
Nice to see Jackson's. I just received my first order from them about a week ago. I bought A range of their store brand watercolor tubes. Have you tried Shinhan gouache yet? They're nice and not very expensive. Shinhan is from South Korea. Qor watercolors are made by Golden in New York, USA. Excellent paints! Very vibrant and the colors really like to move! Usually they are pricey as most Golden products are no matter what the medium. Happy creating with all your new art supplies! :)
Oh awesome! I haven't tried Shinhan, too much in love with Schmincke Horadam at the moment!! 😂 You're the second person to comment about QoR, feel like I must try them soon! 💛 Thanks!
