Two weeks from release: "Guys, guys i just realised." "What?" "Link is left-handed." *everyone is silent for 30 seconds* Janitor speaks up. "Just mirror the whole damn thing."
the reason it was flipped for the wii because Link is actually left handed, there are more right handed people than left handed people so they flipped it so the wii mote would be in the same hand as links sword. just so you guys know
+Donovan Smith they were to lazy to add a thing that says Which handed are you left or right? and just have one regular (GC) and one flipped (wii) coz im left handed and well wii is hard as shit to controll with my lefty
I've been playing the Wii version for some time now. After it stopped working, I got the GameCube version and I was so confused because everything was mirrored,
Add a home menu, full 16:9 support, remove the port for GBA backwards compatability, squash it, smack a motion controller onto it, and you've got a wii. The wii isn't emulating a gamecube when you put the disc in, it literally becomes one!
Wii is bettee than Gamecube, supports 16:9 panoramic, 480p in all of the games compared with the 480i of gamecube and the Wii optical disc has the double space than gamecube
The Wii has twice the RAM and RAM bandwidth, 1.5x the clock speed for CPU and GPU, motion controls, 16:9 aspect ratio, and full DVD disc size. The Wii is no PS3 or 360, but it is more powerful than the GameCube, with its controls being the main feature rather than the graphics.
GameCube is better. I don't care about the graphics, only the map layout and controls. There's no free camera control for the Wii version, and some of the GC mechanics were not in the Wii version. In GC, spamming the True Spin Attack was super OP and it was awesome.
The bosses are too easy already. Spamming it or not, they still die quickly. Spamming the True Spin attack is very effective against those heavily armored enemy guys once their armor is all off since they get staggered by the True Spin attack every time.
i agree, i really felt like a had full control over link and i could pick if i wanted to thrust the sword or just swing vertically, i could also use spin attack any time as the nunchuck is sometimes unreponsive.
I agree . Also the gamecube version was the zelda game of the time when I was playing it as a 5 year old now im 13. And I can hack the gamecube version to be in widescreen HD
Game Cube and Wii versions literally were nearly identical. One was flipped, one had motion controls, big whoop. It's literally a preference of motion controls vs classic controller.
They're not quite identical. The Wii version is 16:9, but they achieved 16:9 by zooming in on the 4:3 image and cropping it. You actually see more in the GC version than in the Wii version because of this. I found the gameplay very claustrophobic and weird as a result. Also I feel like mirroring the world made it seem very odd. I played the Wii version first, and everything felt off to me. When I played the GC version suddenly everything looked 'right' and I found areas much easier to navigate. You can't just mirror something and it be the same.
And whichever you already have. Because I only have a Wii so it's natural to play the Wii version. I actually loved the motion controls...but I must agree that there is a rather disappointing, complete lack of change in graphics. The Wii really is barely any advance on the Gamecube, besides motion controls. I don't know what Nintendo were thinking, bringing it out alongside consoles like the PS3 and Xbox 360. Why?
There's nothing wrong. The video is in 4:3 in the GC disc and 16:9 in the Wii disc. I aligned them as best as possible, while keeping the aspect ratios intact.
You all realize that the graphics are supposed to be exactly the same right. They just put the Gamecube game on Wii, but flipped it so Link would be right handed in the Wii version to avoid confusing gamers with the Wii-mote.
cody plant I got the wii version for 20 bucks and I liked it but I hate the wii mote. I found that online the gamecube goes between 60-100 bucks. I was recently at my game store and found the gamecube version for 25 and I was like SOLD! The only difference I noticed was that the wii's map was flipped and had slightly better lightning and texturing. Hardly noticeable though.
MoneMtwoAbrams If you use gamecube component cables then it will look almost identical aside from not being widescreen compatible. Im not saying you need to play it on the gamecube with components just pop it in your wii and it will look nice. I personally would rather hold a controller to the wii mote, and they only did that to push wii sales :P
cody plant personally i dont know how anyone can play this game using composite. and components are out of the question on gamecube, so i just bought the wii version instead.
I prefer the Wii version.I actually like the motion controls and in my opinion they work extremely well here. I think the Wii slightly edges the gamecube version in graphics also. The Wii is essentially a more powerful gamecube.Maybe not super powered but its about twice as powerful as the gamecube. Still Twilight princess was actually designed for the gamecube , but I'm one of the few that prefer the Wii version.
I got both for the sake of comparing it. I sold my wii copy on Amazon. Gamecube wins. This is because, personally I like the world in this reflection, I like the non widescreen more, and I don't like using the wii remote, because eventually you will find that it doesn't matter which way you swing it, the game will do it in the opposite direction most of the time. Having the GC controller makes it feel more... nice. GC is around £115 new. For all people who can't decide.
@GoingBonkz101 I don't know what you're talking about, since there is absolutely no reference to motion controls on the left screen (GameCube side) -- the most noticeable part of this being the absence of the fairy that acts as an on-screen cursor.
The only difference that matters to me is that the GC version doesn't force me to waggle around a remote. To this day I've never properly played through Twilight Princess for that one reason alone.. I just really detest motion controls that much.
Same. The motion controls really put me off on the Wii. Just got it on Wii U and it's so much better with the Pro controller that I don't even mind that the remake was lazy.
Thought this was common knowledge. This is why I consider the GCN version to be the true version of the game. It was just delayed so long that they also decided to make it a launch title for the Wii, and then implement motion controls but then they had to mirror it, yada yada...but it was meant for the Gamecube
fledermausmann They made him right handed on the wii version, because the majority of the people are right handed. That's why they mirrored the game on wii. Sadly I don't like the wii version, since link has always been left handed and not right handed xD
Advantages for each version: GameCube: - Allows the use of a GameCube controller. - Is much easier to emulate on PC. -Is technically the real version due to its non-mirrored layout. -Has a free camera. -Easier to execute certain glitches Wii: - Has widescreen. - Wireless controls are a standard. - is cheaper and much easier to acquire. - The mirrored version is good for those who want to replay with a fresh perspective. - The Wii version lets Link carry 4 items at a time instead of two.
Thanks for putting this together. A really nice piece of work there. You say that you think the GC and the Wii versions look the same because you think that Nintendo didn't want GC owners feeling like they got the short end of the stick. I reckon it was more a case of Nintendo needing a strong Wii launch title, Mario not being ready, so they simply ported the Cube version of Zelda over. I could be wrong, though :)
It's always weird for me to look at the GC version since I played the Wii version. That being said, I like right handed Link and the flipped world. It's not the end of the world like some make it out to be.
As reading the comments, people thinks the GameCube version came out first, which it's not true. The Wii version came out first as a launch title for the Wii. A month later, it was ported to the GameCube, making it the last GameCube game by Nintendo. Both games really look identical. Only difference is the screen ratio during gameplay. I honestly don't mind which version I play, but my preferred version is the GameCube due to its amazing controller.
I know that the wii has a dual cor and the gamecube has a single core but the improvements i was talking about did not include graphics or performance . I ment improvements such as more or better controls and other things.
One of the only differences is Midna's first appearance around 0:58. I actually like the change here. Somehow that expression is more mysterious to me than seeing her simply speaking.
Start watching from 1:00 forward. You'll see the GC side is in 4:3, and the Wii side shows the fairy, which is only used on the Wii version as a pointer.
The Gamecube video cutscene looks WAAAAY better!! The graphics here are actually the SAME. The only difference here is the RESOLUTION (giving the illusion that it's better because of pixel SHRINKING) PLUS the controls are MUCH more superior on the Gamecube console. Waggling the Wii remote gives Link RANDOM swings in the Wii version. The Gamecube version gives you better control over his swings by allowing you to choose swing direction with the Anolog stick. I've done research on this game and it turns out that this game was originally meant to be released on the Nintendo Gamecube first (and possibly alone),but the Wii's fame over the Gamecube caused them to run the idea of RUSHING this game onto the Wii...worst controls and pretty much the same graphics. The producers said that they would've DEFINITELY done more work on the Wii version's graphics and controls IF they had more time.
Didn't you read my full comment. I didn't stress on the visuals alone. The game was originally created for the Gamecube and it is better on the Gamecube mostly because of this.
I want a GameCube just to play this game the right way. I mean, it was so lazy of them to just mirror the whole thing. They didn't even change the graphics. And I'm actually left-handed myself, but I always had to hold the wii remote in my right hand to play things correctly.
... not understanding how it was such a terrible thing to mirror it? See, coming from a Wii-user, it seems wrong to *me* that the Game Cube is the other way around, even if that's the original way? I dunno, it's not something to get caught up on at all.
Knowing that this game was mirrored for the Wii hasn't stopped my having fun with the one I did play through on the Wii. But I also admit that it's a little nutty that out of sheer laziness and desperation, the people who marketed the game decided to flip Mirror everything and hope people wouldn't notice.
It looks exactly the same for me. I have it for both wii and gamecube. I was very disappointed because it had exactly the sane graphics. The only difference was that the wii had huyrule like a mirror. So like in the gamecube version, let's just say you had to take a left turn somewhere, well on the wii version, that left turn would be a right turn! Other than the controls, it's exactly the same
they are both great after watching this video bcoz i hv only played d wii version n it doesnt really matter if it is mirrored or not, only if u are playing both at the same tym or playing one immediately after d other one .....the main thing is about the input/controller depending on which suites d player ;fishing aiming striking with remote n nunchuks VS button
and twilight princess was released on the wii first then ported to the gamecube, it was one of the release day wii games and was the last official gamecube game
I believe that this right here is a pre-rendered video, and isn't fully being rendered, therefore it is identical in both scenarios, mirroring aside. I also believe that if this were gameplay footage, there would be some slightly noticeable differences between the two systems. I had noticed that the Twilight isn't quite the same and a lot of the blur effect was missing from the GameCube version.
I get that the gameplay footage needed to be different, but it's so funny that at 0:58 you get treated to far better facial animation in the gamecube movie.
For those of you who haven't seen the difference yet, the two versions of the game ARE MIRROR IMAGES! Each version of hyrule is just a flipped version of the other.
They seem pretty similiar to me, I've only played the Wii version but from what I've seen the UI and controls are better on the Wii (pointing/aiming system, you can move while aiming, carry more items etc. and if you really hate the motion control that much, you CAN turn if off). Also the graphics are slightly better. The only things I like better in the Gamecube version must be the free-roam camera and Link being left handed.
The wii version supports 16:9 and you can play in 480p with component cables pretty cheaply while the wires are over a hundred dollars for the gamecube.
@KingGamingFreak Agreed. Even though the Wii has better shading, doesn't mean that the Gamecube isn't capable of having that level of shade. It's just that Nintendo cleaned it up a bit. Also I look at some of my games (ex: New Super Mario Bros, Pokemon Battle Revolution, etc.) and I also believe that the Gamecube can handle the graphics. Heck, most of my Wii games I own can fit in 1 Gamecube disk each.
I like both of them. Played both of them. But the Wii version felt more as if you were really BEING Link. It's hard to explain, so I lean more towards the Wii.
it was actually released on the wii first on november 19 2006, then the gamecube in december 2006, it was one of the release day wii games and the last official gamecube game
On the gamecube, Hyrule's geography is more loyal to Ocarina of Time's geography, but I perfer the Wii version, because I played it first and because I love the 480p widescreen. Plus, arrows are much easier to use and fishing is much more fun. Having Link switch arms for use of sword and sheild took a little time getting used to, but Link is ambidextrous, so I'll accept that.
@maxryu100 The gamecube version was ready to be launched, but the folks at Nintendo froze its release so it could be a launch title for the Wii. Then they realized that 90% of people are right handed, so Nintendo thought they would felt uncomfortable handling the wiimote with their left hands. The original idea of using the wiimote was to mimic the sword's movements, but Link is left-handed. To avoid any problem by just inverting Link, they inverted the whole world (except for the texts).
@riolop1972 It's mirrored because when the developers were still making it, they ran out of time to redesign Link's moves from scratch, so they just took the GCN version and mirrored it, then edit a little Link's moves :)
Why the hell did they have to flip the ENTIRE GAME? It's way obvious that 'not touching entire things' is better, every single time They could have just made a mirrored Link and let you choose your hand at the beginning. And everybody happy. Thanks for the vid, btw. :)
This Resolution adjuster is correct, twilight princess runs at 480 p! Also, The Gamecube graphics are totally maxed out, in other words, of course the wii normally is the gamecube at its fullest potential. The Wii has a newer processer thus, yes it is smoother and slightly (SLIGHTLY) better quality.
Something tells me they're the same clips with a slight delay and just mirrored. But then again, there wasn't much graphical differences between the Wii and Gamecube versions. EDIT: Except for the gameplay shots, you can clearly see differences there.
this game was designed for gamecube and ported to wii....i waited forever for this game, i even pre-ordered 2 years before it came out, the people at walmart didnt know what to do, i had my reciept and they didnt have any knowledge or paperwork showing pre order because it had been so long
To me, the GameCube version makes more sense in terms of geography + I prefer Link be left-handed (mainly because it's been a tradition before Skyward Sword & because I'm more used to it). I know those are just little nitpicks on my part, but those are the breaks. The only things I absolutely like about the Wii version are the interactive features such as the fishing game & sometime the Wii Remote makes sound effects. Like once my younger sister left the room (still holding the Wii Remote) to talk to my older sister & Midna's laugh came out of the Wii Remote's speaker.
Well, that may have been to alter the mood. Happier games tend to have bright colors while darker games (Light Twilight Princess or Majora's mask) tend to have darker colors. It's more about setting the mood.
when i'm getting Twilight Princess i'm getting the Gamecube version, the wii version is mirrored and you need motion control is a good thing that gamecube games can be played on the Wii
Some people feel the other way around. For example, many people feel using the bow is easier on the Wii. Plus, the graphics don't look all that different. (at least for the intros) The only weird thing about the Wii version is that everything is...mirrored...I have absolutely no idea why they did that. It's kinda funny
They look the same the Wii version is just a mirrored port. I've already beaten the Wii version multiple times so I want to try the GC version, it'll be cool to have camera control and after playing Skyward Sword it's hard to go back to TP's Wii controls.
I like the Gamecube version because it's much more simple & easier to use the controller.Plus you don't any interruptions with the batteries & it was the last game that has been out on Gamecube.
@rvchester Nope. In the gameplay scenes you can see the fairy on the "Wii side" (there's no fairy in the GC version), and the Wii is in widescreen. There's no mistake. Also, I did not mirror any of the videos, I ripped them directly from their respective game discs.
I agree but I must say the game cube and x-box were both 480p. but the gamecube had only slightly better frame rate and colors. Not enough to notice unless you have one of those huge 60" screen tv's and even then you don't notice unless you look for it.
Did anyone else notice the OoT Light Medallion symbol in the Temple of Time? Yes, yes you did. But did you notice all six of the OoT Medallion symbols on the wall next to the stairs going up to the Mirror Chamber? Or the words Master Sword Master Sword on the pedestal? I did, but you probably didn't.
Actually no,the GameCube has easier controls, for me at least. I use precision sword swings on Twilight Princess, & most of the time I mess them up due to the Wii Remote. On Gamecube I just put the direction where I want to swing, keep pushing the B button, that way it doesn't detect your movement failure and makes Link swing how he's supposed to. I don't know if anyone gets my idea.
So the Gamecube camera is better because it's facing a different direction? That fails to make any sense whatsoever. Maybe if the camera was at a different zoom level or was more easily controlled it'll make sense, but I don't think the actual flip will make a difference to people. I played the Wii version all the way through and it felt completely natural to me.
@Zuon94 Actually the Wii is about 2-3 times more powerfl than the Gamecube, it says on Wikipedia. The reason they look the same is because it is a Gamecube port. Thw Wii could have made it look a lot better actually.
Well, people have different perspectives about the different types. For me I play it on the Wii. It's just like what that guy said about how he didn't even KNOW that the Wii version was flipped. Its kind of like Call of Duty on the Wii. If you don't have an Xbox or PLYStation, you can play it on the Wii. Then, recently the Wii U comes out. There are so many people talking about how Black Ops 2 is on it. Then those people that played Call of Duty on the Wii think that they'll have to extort to the screen controller for Black Ops 2.
Oh god, it's mirrored and there's a slight difference in certain parts. I guess I better start complaining for no reason when its still the same game either way.
You should play Nights on the Wii! That game is pretty good. You fly around as usual but it really takes the Wii to the limits with the amount of colors that thry use. It's amazing to look at when you're flying around.
@SuperShaneTV1 Twilight Wii is a port, Nintendo only worked to add motion controls (if they had tweaked the graphics, the owners of the GC have been owned, xD)
even though the Wii twilight came out first the GC one is the original because as far as i know the GC twilight was going to be dropped but they decided to continue with it. If you read somewhere they say the Wii was mirrored off the GC.
I think Nintendo made the game as a "Master Quest" type of thing. I mean, it required more work to control the character thus making it more difficult (of course, it doesn't mean that it is hard, just adjusting to the controls suck) and mirrored.. everything. At least that's how I think of it :P
Just to sum up. The gamecube version is better. 1 - its cannon version. 2 - although wii has widescreen, the game actually looks worse on wii due to this (more pixelated look - effect is removed if u play in 4:3) 3. waggling isnt as responsive as B button. 4 - nunchuck would somtimes do spin attack instead of sheild bash. 5 - GC actually loads faster when entering diff areas. 6 - free camera on gc. The only pros i got for wii is pointing to shoot and having 4 items at once instead of 2.
Two weeks from release:

Or hack a wii and put the gamecube version on it
Playboi Cactus the wii already can run gamecube games bro you..

Just think of it as a master quest version of twilight princess without added difficulty.
Yeah well now when I play the GameCube version it feels weird as if I am playing the mirrored version of the Wii.
Advantages for each version:
GameCube:
- Allows the use of a GameCube controller.
- Is much easier to emulate on PC.
-Is technically the real version due to its non-mirrored layout.
-Has a free camera.

Just started playing this game last night again looking forward to getting back into it
My gamecube is hooked up to my TV but not played for months. I need this!
em i the only one who thinks the GC graphics look better?
gamecube is better.
@marioaddict1 You have more control over the camera in the GC version?
whats up checkmark
Start watching from 1:00 forward. You'll see the GC side is in 4:3, and the Wii side shows the fairy, which is only used on the Wii version as a pointer.
The Gamecube video cutscene looks WAAAAY better!!
The graphics here are actually the SAME.
The only difference here is the RESOLUTION (giving the illusion that it's better because of pixel SHRINKING)
PLUS the controls are MUCH more superior on the Gamecube console.
Beyond Birthday The CAPITAL words are for EMPHASIS....
To emulate SHOUTING!!
A smart person would guess that.
Other than the controls, it's exactly the same
The wii remote can be used in your left or right hand, and some games are mirrored when they are re-released anyway.
they are both great after watching this video bcoz i hv only played d wii version n it doesnt really matter if it is mirrored or not, only if u are playing both at the same tym or playing one immediately after d other one .....the main thing is about the input/controller depending on which suites d player ;fishing aiming striking with remote n nunchuks VS button
and twilight princess was released on the wii first then ported to the gamecube, it was one of the release day wii games and was the last official gamecube game
That might be the system-level flicker filter on the Wii. The game looks way crispier on GCN.
I get that the gameplay footage needed to be different, but it's so funny that at 0:58 you get treated to far better facial animation in the gamecube movie.
The game was developed for Gamecube, I think I prefere the GC one :)
@UltraEevee One of my best friends is left-handed and he had no trouble at all playing the Wii version.
it was actually released on the wii first on november 19 2006, then the gamecube in december 2006, it was one of the release day wii games and the last official gamecube game
The strange thing is, the Dark Nut is left handed in both versions.
To avoid any problem by just inverting Link, they inverted the whole world (except for the texts).
it really boils down to which game has better controls
@riolop1972 It's mirrored because when the developers were still making it, they ran out of time to redesign Link's moves from scratch, so they just took the GCN version and mirrored it, then edit a little Link's moves :)
@riolop1972 Its not mirrored. He's just flipped the video..
Why the hell did they have to flip the ENTIRE GAME?
It's way obvious that 'not touching entire things' is better, every single time
They could have just made a mirrored Link and let you choose your hand at the beginning. And everybody happy.
Thanks for the vid, btw. :)
This Resolution adjuster is correct, twilight princess runs at 480 p! Also, The Gamecube graphics are totally maxed out, in other words, of course the wii normally
is the gamecube at its fullest potential. The Wii has a newer processer thus, yes it is smoother and slightly (SLIGHTLY) better quality.
The graphics are exactly the same. The Wii was mirrored due to Link being left handed and players can attack using the Wii remote.
Thanks for the comparison.
Something tells me they're the same clips with a slight delay and just mirrored. But then again, there wasn't much graphical differences between the Wii and Gamecube versions.
EDIT: Except for the gameplay shots, you can clearly see differences there.
THO games But then some of the cutscenes are different, like the first one with Midna.
this game was designed for gamecube and ported to wii....i waited forever for this game, i even pre-ordered 2 years before it came out, the people at walmart didnt know what to do, i had my reciept and they didnt have any knowledge or paperwork showing pre order because it had been so long
To me, the GameCube version makes more sense in terms of geography + I prefer Link be left-handed (mainly because it's been a tradition before Skyward Sword & because I'm more used to it).
Because the Wii displays in 16:9 widescreen. Gamecube is full screen.
Porting this game was plain lazy
What if Sonic Unleashed was this similar between versions?
that was in skyward sword, not twilight princess
Well, that may have been to alter the mood. Happier games tend to have bright colors while darker games (Light Twilight Princess or Majora's mask) tend to have darker colors. It's more about setting the mood.
dont underestimate the power of nintendo's little white box. It has alot of graphical potential that has only been unlocked in few games
when I was a kid, this used to hype me up!!.... but when playing I didnt understand shit since I didnt know english XD
when i'm getting Twilight Princess i'm getting the Gamecube version, the wii version is mirrored and you need motion control
is a good thing that gamecube games can be played on the Wii
Some people feel the other way around. For example, many people feel using the bow is easier on the Wii. Plus, the graphics don't look all that different. (at least for the intros)
The only weird thing about the Wii version is that everything is...mirrored...I have absolutely no idea why they did that.
They probably could have very easily just changed what hand link has items in rather than mirroring the whole thing.
It does look better on GameCube, but Link turned right-handed for the Wiimake, so everything flipped.
Actually no,the GameCube has easier controls, for me at least.
I use precision sword swings on Twilight Princess, & most of the time I mess them up
due to the Wii Remote.
On Gamecube I just put the direction where I
want to swing, keep pushing the B button,
that way it doesn't detect your movement failure and makes Link swing how he's
supposed to.
I don't know if anyone gets my idea.
Gamecube because it has a useable controller
The wii version is mirrored because there are more right handed people. Which sucks because Link is originally left handed.
I had the Wii version. They look almost identical, however.
the gamecube version is better cause fuck motion controlls
@DeadlyKlown Thats not what I said, I said NINTENDO is still using ten year old technology while the PS3 an 360 aren't
@Zuon94 Actually the Wii is about 2-3 times more powerfl than the Gamecube, it says on Wikipedia. The reason they look the same is because it is a Gamecube port. Thw Wii could have made it look a lot better actually.
I have both of them and they are awesome games!I am impressed off both! Both from gamecube and wii...AWESOME GAME!
@cronochos Thanks! I used Multiquence, but unfortunately it doesn't work anymore in Windows 7 or Vista. :(
Well, people have different perspectives about the different types.
I like the wii version cause of the navigation pointer. It reminds me of Navi.
@TheDUJproductions no the wii is mirrored to the gamecuube since it was originaly for the gamecube
@SuperShaneTV1 Twilight Wii is a port, Nintendo only worked to add motion controls (if they had tweaked the graphics, the owners of the GC have been owned, xD)
can you use the gamecube version of twilight princess in the wii console with the gamecube remote?
The Wii versions seems a but more cinematic, more zoomed out.
@rvchester dude, they reversed it on wii so link could be right handed because of the wii remote.
0:33 those are some big balls 😅
The version looks slightly better with some added lighting and weather effects. They both look great though.
even though the Wii twilight came out first the GC one is the original because as far as i know the GC twilight was going to be dropped but they decided to continue with it. If you read somewhere they say the Wii was mirrored off the GC.
So basically it's just a mirrored version game
I think Nintendo made the game as a "Master Quest" type of thing. I mean, it required more work to control the character thus making it more difficult (of course, it doesn't mean that it is hard, just adjusting to the controls suck) and mirrored.. everything. At least that's how I think of it :P
Who cares which version is better. Twilight Princess is a great game regardless of which console you played it on.
