Hi Gary, I really like your easy going, no nonsense attitude. It's all about going out and enjoying nature and taking photographs that you like. It's about you having fun and it looks like you are. Also, great photographs. Thank you for sharing your vlogs with us. Keep up the great work.
Gary I just went to your beginning and from there I notice that you have hardly changed anything. These are also great photos with good advice and they are also inspiring. Thanks and on to the next flog.
Gary Gough look forward to seeing it buddy. I love Scotland, place of my birth, as you know. I gave seen Skye from Mallaig but never ventured over. it's on the bucket list.
Hi Gary. I switched focusing off on the shutter button and just use the back button with AI Servo to focus. Never have to switch manual focus on and off (or forget!). A dab on the back button focuses just like single shot and if something interesting starts moving I just hold the button down to track it. Great for focus and recompose with instant tracking capability. Can't beat it!
The video loaded in 360p for some reason but when changed to 1080p it looked brill. Great shots, been there a couple of times before, it is a wonderful place to visit. Nice video Gary. :)
Beautiful images in a magical place. I have watched some of your videos and you have a great quality: along with the passion for landscape photography, you reveal a very positive mood about the experience of being there, enjoying the outdoors. An experience available to everyone. That is really inspiring. Thanks for sharing. Cheers from Portugal.
Gary Gough I think the wife might have something to say about great but yeah your right, only trouble is I might not come back lol then she would be really mad lol
Another great video, the last shot was a real bonus and a great image. Thanks Gary for this informative video, it's takes time and dedication. I love your vids just grab a nice cuppa and settle down to watch it's a real motivator cheers
Lovely to see other people's take on the beautiful Isle of Skye and you have really done it proud. I'm amazed that you managed to get the Fairy Pools and Sligachan (Slig to the locals btw) without people in shot. Thank you for encouraging folks to shoot the iconic locations, far too many photographers have a negative attitude in this regard. They're iconic places for a reason and whilst the images may lack originality and not win any prizes, they are wonderful to look at on your computer and better yet, on the wall. Thanks for sharing, well worth my thumbs up and subscribing.
You're my new best buddy Trevor 👍👍👍 The IOS is one of my favorite places on earth to visit and photograph. I go twice a year and due to the fact I run workshops there (www.shootsmart.co.uk), I photograph the same locations too. I love it every time, I mean... how can you get bored of it?
Oh Hi Paul, cheers. Ditto regards the videos btw. You were mentioned on a comment above :) read Paul Burwood's comments and my replies. If anyone is reading these comments, check out Paul's channel it's excellent!
I liked the focus stacked shot. I'm not sure I have the tech ability to do it in LR or photoshop, so I'd stick to f16! But you did a great job - great overall video, too.
Fantastic video, full of information i am learning from these videos a lot just wanted to know if you have done any video on post processing to follow your workflow thanks
Hi, thanks for taking time out to leave me a nice comment. I fully intend to do a follow-up Photoshop video. It'll be in a couple of weeks. Hope this helps. Gary
Hi Garry I,ve only recently come across your videos, and this is another excellent one, very informative, coupled with some fantastic pictures and mixed in with a lot of good humour, keep making them as I am now hooked on watching, the shot at the Fairy Pools was definitely worth the extra effort, really liked it, regards Ian
Once again Gary, very well done working with the conditions at hand rather than walking away without a shot... I love water movement shots as they do play a large part in my landscape work. The long exp. on the small waterfall imho is more of a abstract & very well done as I wouldn't hesitate to print it off, it exemplifies the beauty of doing long exposures, however, my preferred method is to catch the shape of the water, i.e. what lies directly beneath it, giving it form. Typically I try to get an exp. set at .3 or .4 of a sec., typically this gets me that form or water shape I am looking for. I can tell you, it is difficult to achieve this using only a Hoya CPL without resorting to closing the aperture way, way down, ( not my preference ). I find that once I hit.5 (1/2 sec. ) or slower, the water begins to take on that milky effect, ENTER the Lee Filters System, when I get those babies, I should have the ability to set my exp. levels EXACTLY where I want them with an aperture at the sweet spot. Sorry for prattling on here! The B/W on the boat was stunning btw! Bill Farr...
lol you keep on prattling, I love to hear your thoughts :) Great comments BTW. You must be getting fed up with my dulcet tones by now Bill? I'm very flattered that you're watching my videos. Even my older videos. Thanks and keep them coming 👍🏻
Thanks for the reply back Gary & by no means getting fed up with the dulcet tones, ( never heard that one b4! ) Our ages don't seem much different, I might have you by a few years though... The content & the way it is presented is spot on, keep it up! I don't approach photography exactly the same way you do, however there are uncanny similarities also! Not sure if that made any sense but I would say just keep plugging away at it, everything works out in the end.
Loved the Skye video, only ever been there once and went to Fairy pools, didn't get anything near your shot. I've never tried focus stacking so would have liked for you to show how it was done on your Fairy pool shots. Keep them coming. Thanks
Thank you - Just shoot at F11 - F16 for great depth of Field and simply adjust your shutter speed to make your light meter go to the middle. I'm making a video on this in 2 weeks
Once again fantastic video. Only found your channel a week ago and new at this. Quick question/suggestion: I use back button focus so there's no need to switch back and forth between auto/manual focus? And also you suggested in one of you vlogs than aperture priority is best mode. I come from a video background and mainly use manual mode. In this mode I set my iso, exposure and only have to mess around with the shutter speed to get a good looking histogram. Quite easy with canon having the shutter speed "wheel" on the top of the camera close to the shutter? Thanks once again for the great content. (Only now started reading comments and someone else also suggested back button focus :-)
Great videos Gary, learning a lot from you and Thomas Heaton, just one quick question: I plan to upgrade my camera and cannot decide which on to get for landscape photography canon 5dsr or canon 5D mark iv. What is your opinion
Hi Gary, loving the videos as I’m new to photography. what lens are you using for landscapes? I have a Canon 77D + 18-135MM lens kit I have just purchased so do I need a more compacted size lens?
Barry Wright - hi Barry, firstly thanks for your kind words. My go-to lens for landscapes is my 24-105. I nearly always shoot at 24mm. If I need to go wider I just shoot a panoramic and stitch them together. Your lens is perfect. Hope this helps, Gary
Gary Gough Gary that's great. I have a ND1000 10 stop filter and also a tripod on order so I can soon get out and about and play around and learn by trial and error. Many thanks
Only recently found your TH-cam Vlogs but really enjoying them, thanks Gary.
Thank you Mike
I do like your vlog. I live in California USA, so love seeing your different shots of U.K. Landscape.
Glad you like them. Plenty more fab looking places to photograph and vlog. Subscribed? hope so :)

Dave Wall - hi DAVE, it's a lovely place indeed. Shame you didn't get to explore the rest of the Island. I'll probably make a focus stacking tutorial.
awesome images my freind really good vlog and some awesome tips that will definitely help me as a total beginner to photography thank you
Cheers Ian - Very kind words. Plenty more vlogs to come. Please subscribe
Thank you and I have subscribed
Great video of the British landscape. How do you workout f stops when using nd filters.
Thank you - Just shoot at F11 - F16 for great depth of Field and simply adjust your shutter speed to make your light meter go to the middle. I'm making a video on this in 2 weeks
Hi thanks Gary😀
Wow 👌

Love the fairy pools shot even if you did look like Godzilla standing next to them 😂
Keef - I look like a monster... I've had worse comments I guess :)
MORE❗️❗️❗️
brian mcfarlane - plenty more to come
hi Gary, can you tell me if i have missed part 2 of this please?
tudor west - hi no not at all. I didn't finish the edit. I'm on it, it'll be on before the end of the week. Cheers
Good video and some really nice shots.. How much post processing do you do and what do you do. Looks like a lot of tone mapping; correct?
Avid Amateur - I never Tone Map I usually double process in ACR
I don't understand how focus stacking works; do you have video explaining how to do it?
Avid Amateur - Hi . I don't sorry. It's a fairly easy process if you use Photoshop. Just search on YT for a tutorial
Love your style, personality and images; especially the focus stacked one at the Fairy Pools. Just a shame the video is not sharper.
Paul Burwood - should be sharp. It was filmed in HD. I'll check it. Thanks
Paul Burwood - did you turn it up to 1080?
Yes, it was running at 1080; perhaps I am just used to other VLOGs being shot on 4k, albeit also running at 1080, e.g. Tom Heaton and Paul G Johnson.
Paul Burwood - you'll probably find they're just prettier than me. Easier on the eyes ;)
Ha Thanks Gary but I;m not that pretty. :)
the fairy falls would be nice in b+w or in rich tone mono just a idea but still likes the photo
I think most pictures look great in B&W :) Cheers and thanks for watching
Great videos Gary, learning a lot from you and Thomas Heaton, just one quick question: I plan to upgrade my camera and cannot decide which on to get for landscape photography canon 5dsr or canon 5D mark iv. What is your opinion
Down to earth style, no bullshit, if people can't learn from you they are not trying ;)
Comments like make all the hard work well worth it. Thank you Martin 👍👍👍👍
Big thumbs up
Thank you kindly Allan
