    I’m so mad at myself for not buying a seasonal site in the spring of 2020. Now what few spots are left are up to $5000 more. I’m going to wait it out I think to see what happens once people are able to travel again. I have no intentions of towing it & have every intention of buying from Josh. I really appreciate all your hard work with these videos . Your personality really comes through & I feel comfortable making a large purchase from Haylett’s

    Josh, I’ve had that same thought about owning a very large 5th wheel and having it moved for me perhaps twice a year. Depending on the cost to move it vs. buying a super heavy duty truck $$$$ and then that tank becomes your everyday vehicle. If I don’t move it I can drive whatever I want or even pull a trailer with a side by side on it with me. Thanks for validating my day dreams.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Another thought -- it's WAAAAY cheaper to pay someone to move it those 1-2 times per year than paying for a truck you generally aren't using for towing.

    Good point about the steps in a 5th wheel. Several older couples have traded off theirs for a destination. We went the route of a 30 foot V-lite BH. Added a roofed deck . Now we are looking to buy a 21-22 foot couples camper to do our exploring with (much to the chagrin of our grandkids).

    Great video. I picked up a 39' Cherokee destination trailer last year at a very good price. The determining factor for me was the 8' ceiling height, bathroom layout, and most importantly ... the full-sized house style fridge. The beer supply is always abundant and cold. The bunk house with separate dinette/bed is also nice for the kids and keeps them in their own area. I don't feel as claustrophobic in this trailer nearly as much as in my friend's 5th wheel. I think it's largely due to the vast number of windows and the large sliding glass door. I have the trailer setup on my own land and use it as a "cabin" all year long. A skirting made of 1" foam board and a small utility heater under the trailer keep the pipes/tanks from freezing down to -20 F. A good quality anti-sway hitch is a must if you plan to tow the rig.

    • @andrewb2111
      @andrewb2111 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoshtheRVNerd Just a milk house heater I picked up on sale at the farm store. I have it placed under the discharge pipes facing the bathroom toilet supply line. Keeps the whole rear thawed out. I have another one at the front of the trailer under the water heater area but haven't needed to run it yet. The skirting system is tight so it stays comfortable under there. If I keep this trailer, some double pane windows would be a nice upgrade. The new trailers would be a nice upgrade as well but I think I'll wait a few years and see if I can find one gently used. The costs have gone up a bit.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could, but I question the benefit of such an upgrade. If that was the goal, then you'd likely want to gravitate to a FW initially
      Do you have an idea I am not considering as to how that would work?

    • @markmorgan5892
      @markmorgan5892 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JoshtheRVNerd Yeah what I was thinking is that someone could still tow it to Florida or Texas or Arizona or New Mexico or any of the southern states from central or the northern U.S. and then if they wanted to bring it back home for their summer months then they could and u would have the better suspension under it, so it wouldn’t get beat around as bad! Cause that suspension upgrade can’t be that expensive is it? Since ur only pretty much changing out two or three components on each side of the trailer correct? I’m sure u could get way more expensive stuff like doing torsion axels or something similar to that but just doing the two or three components on each side I wouldn’t figure would be that expensive. The room that one of those destination trailers gives u compared to that of a fifth wheel is about how much room, it’s a bit isn’t it? That’s just what I was thinking about. 🤔🤔

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@markmorgan5892 It really depends on exactly what sort of upgrades you're discussing, but typically things like suspension and solar seem to cost far more than a consumer expects from what I've seen.
      For the type of towing you're discussing I don't know that it'd be needed really, but it boils down to individual preference and comfort.
      Chances are for the cost of a suspension upfit you could likely just have someone move it for you several times

    Josh, I'm as green as they come to RVing, and I could use your help on the do's/don'ts of setting up a travel trailer as a temporary domicile while building a new home.
    I've found a 2017 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 32BDSW for sale locally that could be a good candidate. I feel comfortable with the overall build quality & layout of the Jayco and hope it will have a better resale value once we're done with our move. Regardless of what travel trailer we go with, it'll be parked under a pole barn during our transition and have access to onsite water, power, and be plumbed to a septic system.
    However, I was curious if you have any videos on how to set up a travel trailer for long term use. In particular, I'm uncertain on the best way to set up the sewage line (do I leave black/grey valves open?), power, water, etc.
    Your videos are so informative and enjoyable and I would really appreciate your advice on those issues or any other tips you may have for tackling longer stays in a travel trailer (i.e. getting decent WiFi remotely).

    We are in this exact position right now. We are actually working with Bish's sales team trying to find the right fit. We have acreaage in the UP of Michigan, with electric and septic, so we would love to investigate a destination trailer. However, with the industry as it is, you cant even get one to walk through, let alone purchase one. Manufacturers just arent making them. Couple questions we have.
    1. What about winter storage on a destination trailer? We store our current TT in fairground barns. Would towing it to storage and back constitute as "towing"?
    2. We are looking to extend the use of our new rig into the end of December in the UP of MI. We keep getting pulled back to a Montana 5th wheel, due to its 0 to 100 ratings. We know its not a house and there are many precautions that need to be taken to even stretch any rig that far, but It doesnt seem the destination trailers are rated to get close. Thoughts?

    Looks like a Destination trailer would have a lot of benefits for seasonal use. How does one obtain service on something that they cant tow? Does Haylett have Mobile Service Techs?

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great great question! RV Warranties typically do not cover things like service calls. They'll cover the work of course, but even in the case of a destination trailer they rarely cover the cost of dispatching a mobile service tech to a location.
      We do have local mobile service as well

      @@JoshtheRVNerd So warranty would cover parts and labor but not travel expense of the mobile tech?

      @@snowtime01 That's *usually* how RV warranties are structured. I would always recommend investigating additional specifics that may apply to the brand in question you're seeking as individual companies _may_ have variant policies

    I love the detail you provide in a language everyone can understand. Keep up the good work .. BUT ... also keep in mind the awesome Destination Travel Trailers that are great for every day towing that you also sell. LOL. Shameful plug I know LOL have a great weekend.

    How much is a all season full time Montana rig or a artic package??

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  ปีที่แล้ว

      For clarity no rv - even a Montana - has “all weather” packages
      Pricing will also vary by model, equipment, and shipping. Our website will have figures for you

    What about full time living in Northern California. Temps from 40f to 110f. What would be better?

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm... I'm inclined to say FW simply because they commonly have more advanced weather packages but a solid radiant barrier and dual airs on a destination RV would likely work just fine

    What would you recommend for a family of five that will be living in it full time but, would like to occasionally take it on a trip?

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a destination trailer if traveling now and then
      Either a larger bunkhouse trailer or some variety of fifth wheel would seem to be in order.
      First things that popped into my head for both of those categories linked below, but know you have a WORLD of opportunities out there. Hard to provide personalized suggestions with limited knowledge of our client

    I've been told destination trailers warranty will be voided if I tow them and I'm not supposed to tow them even once a year? That kinda confused me. Basically all I wanna know is are Theese prone to falling apart and cracking on the highway? I'm not worried about handing the load it's not near the heaviest thing I've pulled.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s not accurate thankfully. You may tow them to their destinations without affecting your warranty

    Hey Josh, I've been subscribed to your\ channel for about 2 years now. I have a question that I would like your input. In less than 3 years we will be starting our build on our next home. We plan to sell our current home and live on the building site of our new home, just over 4 acres. Our build will take approximately 18 months. We plan to buy a new RV and are seriously considering a Grand Lodge with a double loft. We currently live in West Nashville and our next house will be built just outside Nashville by 30 minutes. In your professional opinion, are destination RV's harder to sell used versus a used 5th wheel? We will have no purpose to keep the RV as it's only purpose is to temporally live on site during our build. Thank you for any input you can provide.
    Regards,
    Michael T
