The Go-Go’s are the epitome of my high school years. I went to an all girl high school and it just felt right and normal to have an all girl band become that popular. I remember a group of either sophomore or junior girls dressed up as the Go-Go’s from the Beauty and the Beat album for Halloween and it was GREAT! I would also dance to Our Lips Are Sealed with my baby sister in the living room, playing their album on a record player over and over. Wonderful, wonderful memories. Thank you to Gina, Jane, Charlotte, Kathy and Belinda!

Gina is correct about the RRHOF. I have been there several times because I enjoy most of their displays. That said, it is as political of a place as congress is. A shining example is Leon Russell. Leon appeared on more recordings than many of his fellow Wrecking Crew members because he would cross genre lines not to mention his own recordings. Ever since it opened the HOF acted as if he never existed. Once Elton backed the tour of Leon and himself for no other reason than to pay his respects to Leon for his support and advise he provided to Elton early in his career. Within a six month period Leon went from a zero to an inductee in the RRHOF solely because of Elton pushing the subject to the HOF powers that be and a lot of behind the scenes lobbying. Leon was ìn poor health for many years. He performed at his induction in March 2011 and died in November 2016. Steve Miller openly told the world how artists were treated by the hall and so on as the same bs continues.

Just saw this . Great doc on these talented ladies. I didn't want it to end. I second what Gina was saying about making a part 2. It feels like you only scratched the surface on their fascinating stories. Cheers
In the summer of 1983. August. I called out to summer football practice to go see the Go Go's at Castle Farms. Charlevoix Michigan. Only time I ever missed practice. Flock of Seagulls opened. Go Go's put on one of the best live shows I have ever seen. And I've seen AC DC live 6 times. So I know what a good live show is. Obviously they're 2 completely different types of show. But good live is the test of any genre. Incidentally the best live shows I've ever seen is a toss up between Dylan and Willie Nelson.
I like your thinking. The Beatles were one of the best live acts. Until they couldn't hear themselves anymore. Wings was best live show in '76. Eagles were great in '15 at the Garden. Who was amazing in '17. Hope to see these ladies if they come around in '21 and I can afford it. My max is $250-275.
Can I say that these ladies alone first of all my Camaro had gogo stickers all over it my room had posters an album covers all over it Ringo Starr was the first drummer that inspired me but Gina was my role model she open the door for female drummers to actually get jobs in Hollywood I think her every day for my drumming ability and inspiration 58 years old I still play drums to this day and I still love the Go-Go’s
I watched this documentary yesterday and it was great I highly recommend it. I've noticed a (very obvious) trend with bands once they become rich and famous, something you all know so I don't need to spell it out. I mentioned this for a purely selfish reason, I want to share an anecdote from the doc. They were talking about how bad their drug and alcohol use got when one of them shared this little story about Charlotte Caffey; One night in the late 80's or early 90's Ozzie Osbourne, yes Ozzie Osborne, kicked her out of his hotel room because she was so fucked up, again. Seriously what do you have to do to make Ozzie say "this is too much for me she's gotta go"?
Living in LA back then it felt like the Go Go's and the Bangles were rivals like the Beatles and the Stones. I always wondered if they saw it that way too. Fun times.
Post World My understanding is that they were on the same label initially (IRS) and that even though they liked The Go-Go's, The Bangles wanted to be recognised as their own band; not a 2nd version of the band who broke out a few years before. There are some photos online of them together in the 1980's. I don't think there was any real rivalry. Particularly as The Go-Go's had broken up, by the time The Bangles got really big. Plus, both bands have had a respective member join at different times. Vicki Peterson played lead guitar, replacing Charlotte Caffey while she was pregnant and being a Mom. And Kathy Valentine played bass with The Bangles for a time, when Micki Steele decided to leave the group. It would be amazing if they toured together, but it hasn't happened yet, but who knows...
There was no rivalry between the bangles and the go-gos. The go-gos had pretty much run their course as the bangles were taking off. Over the years, the bangles have said in several interviews the "rivalry" was a media creation. The bangles never said anything unkind about them...quite the opposite, actually. (Bangles fan here👍👋)
@BlueArmy33 You like whom you like. You've probably only heard the Bangs' hit singles. I've only heard the Go-Go's singles. There's definitely more to the Bangs. They're a great rock band. Obviously the Go-Gos respected the Bangs enough to ask Vicki Peterson tour with them. The Bangs were all accomplished musicians, whereas, even Carlisle admitted that only Caffey could play her instrument and was the talented one. Sue said her eye thing came about due to being nervous. Doesn't matter which band one likes. They both had an impact on the music world and helped pave the way for other female artists.
@BlueArmy33 um, yeah. I pretty much said the same thing. I, too, grew up in the '80s. It was a wonderful time. I don't like Gaga, either..or swift...or Perry...🤷
When I was in college I worked venue and club security...worked go go shows at the whisky and a number of other venues..I'm impressed they survived the 80s..they weren't girl scouts..glad they did
@Sterling Archer ..i was closer to them when they worked clubs..stadium venues not so much...i worked contract security a cpl years on and off at the Whisky a GoGo...the manager Red freaking adored them...more as a father figure..once he had us toss out a guy pretty hard on his head who was harassing two of the girls while they were watching a show there...at the few clubs i interacted with them at i never heard or saw anything like that...now male groupies?..there were a few..as far as the girls what i saw was what they related..booze and drugs
I really think this documentary had a lot to do with them finally getting the nomination and the induction they so righteously deserved. BTW I just met Gina Schock the other night, when she's the coolest most down-to-earth person you could ever meet. I can't say enough what a great experience it was
The GoGos were my all-time favorite band in the 1980s and little did I know they ( or so I read) lived at the time right up the street from me and I had no idea. Cherokee & Delangpre ....
Club Zero was their first Billboard Hot 100 hit in 19 years when they released it in 2020. Then the hall of fame after this documentary and the new hit song invited them to join the Hall of fame in 2021. Their latest incarnation in the 2020s is just amazing as few bands from the 1980s still perform on stage, by themselves, with no support from anyone else. Yet the Go Go's did it - their way and by themselves.
The ladies just confirmed what I already knew, the JOURNEY to the "top", is more fulfilling and fun than actually getting to the "top", i.e. ENJOY the ride. It's exactly like riding a rollacoaster, the anticipation as you are going up.....then you get to the TOP !!!! then, it's all downhill from there....
Back around the end of September 1980 I met Kathy Valentine in the "Green" room at "The Whiskey" in Hollywood after her set with The Textones who were opening for Gary Myrick. I was just 21 and I don't recall any mention of Kathy playing with the Go-Gos. I did a little impromptu interview and I asked what The Textones had coming up to which she replied: "We're playing in Arizona next month." And I asked her somewhat jokingly "So, what do you do with your first MILLION? She looked right at me and said "I'd like to have a new car. I've never had a new car before." In just a matter 2-3 months later I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I thought at the time that the signed Textones flier would be the last I ever saw of Ms. Valentine when-BOOM! The Go-Gos debut LP in the display case of our Mall record store. For years I showed off my Kathy Valentine autographed flier from the Textones show in September 1980 that she signed: "With Kathy, from love." Sadly, one day the flier couldn't be found. Talk about GRACIOUS! It was me and my friend roaming the Whiskey like we OWNED the place and we landed in the band "Green Room" due to its having an unguarded open door. We weren't even sure when the Textones set was ending so imagine our surprise when they wandered in from the stage. My friend and I had a demeanor that made everyone think that wherever we were-we were SUPPOSED to be there. Kathy and one of the guy members I don't remember which one were receptive to our presence and we stood around and "schmoozed" for awhile. I do remember that Carla O. was not in the room at the time. My friend bought a "Gary Myrick & The Figures"t-shirt. There were no Textones t-shirts that night. Now 40 years later I look back and I see this "Green Room" in my mind and think how I was talking to someone who neither one of us had any idea of what a heart-stopping ride she was about to get on. Now, either she had already joined the Go-Gos but thought it inappropriate to mention "another band" or her going over to them was not a done deal in late September 1980. The only other part of our conversation I can recall is when I mentioned that my friend and I live in NC and we're driving back in a few days and we're stopping to see my friend's sister in Austin, when Kathy's eyes got big and she says "Yeah, Austin! That's where I'm from! Carla, too!"
Everyone loved the Go Gos. It was a fun era. So glad I was born in 1970 because 78-88 was an amazing time to be young and alive, but really it was a special era in America overall.
Love The Go•Go's! So many of my favorite songs weren't their big hits. You Can't Walk In Your Sleep, London Boys, Girl of 100 Lists, Beyond the Blue Sky, Skid Marks On My Heart, How Much More, etc, etc, etc.
I loved all their music in the 80s. In fact when they split up 1 or 2 of the gogos did backup vocals forthe song Heaven is a place on earth (Belinda's album after they went their own ways.
You cannot deny their place in the pantheon of RNR. How many bands can say they still have all original members and are touring 40+ years after the fact? They had to overcome the stigma of a 'girl band' and let the music do the talking. So happy they still love playing and hope to see them on the road when COVID is behind us. Love you ladies and thanks for years of great music and memories.
Jane still looks great. When I met them at a record signing in the late 90s, and they all seemed out of it, except Jane. She was so sweet and bubbly! Was upset meeting Gina like that, though, since I liked her too.
I would be upset, too. I'm new to this whole experience in that I really couldn't appreciate them first go 'round. But I saw the documentary and am a total fan now. And, yes, Jane seemed like the most "relatable," down-to-earth" person. I rooted for Gina in that she seemed like an underdog, but there may have been a lot of anger underneath (and not so underneath). Oh well. At least you met them. Good for you!
First & foremost I love the Go-Go’s! Child born in the 70’s raised rockin in the 80’s. However... I kept thinking in the interview Belinda looked upset, defensive, maybe a little condescending? Then I realized... damn. Botched plastic surgery. I’m not trying to burn her at all. I was sad that she’s obviously still insecure & has done so much to her face that she is almost unrecognizable & can’t move parts of her face anymore 😢. I wish she could feel the love an entire generation of women has for her & saw the original beauty & the beat we all fell in love with. ❤️

The greatest all female band of all time .Thank you Go-Go's for all the years of great vibe and great rock n roll
That's actually sad that 50 years later they never really had any competition in that category.
This is so amazing too see 😃 the GO GO played a big part of my youth (20) in the 80’ so happy to see they are all alive and well 😄 bless all of you 😇
The Go-Go's were the first female band to have a # 1 album-Thanks for posting!
First concert I ever attended was The Go Go’s opening for The Police. Back when we had concerts. Tickets were probably twenty bucks.
Oh my God! What a ticket!
Jane is still so durn cute!
She really is. And she a confident person. To me she's the most interesting.
Always has been.
I think I love her.
Jane Wiedlin used to look alot like Winona Ryder in the 80s!
Actually Winona looks like Jane...
U do realize jane is older
In Winona’s dreams!!! Lol. Triggered?? Maybe. 😂. They are both beautiful ladies for sure!
She was cute as hell as Joan of Arc in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
When did Jane turn into Shirley Jones?
LOL!
Actually, I think Jane looks amazing.
@Phil Mycrackin HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Sadly, now she could have her face on the cover of the Dead Kennedys album "Plastic Surgery Disasters"
Gina looks like the lady who is Bart Simpson 😊
@Debra Elkins Nancy Cartwright played Bart Simpson on the Simpsons.
Jane will always be the best ..., Down to earth and a great personality👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Whenever I see her the first thing that pops in my mind is the Joan of Arc aerobics instructor scene in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure 😂
Love them! Huge part of my youth surfing in Ca. The 80’s was good time all around.
Just saw this . Great doc on these talented ladies. I didn't want it to end. I second what Gina was saying about making a part 2. It feels like you only scratched the surface on their fascinating stories. Cheers
First song that popped in my head..our lips are sealed ❤️ best tune ever!!!
Sure you know Man!6 times wow
I miss concerts at Castle Farms. What a great place to watch concerts!
@@grumpyoldbastard3484 right on brother 🤟
Can I say that these ladies alone first of all my Camaro had gogo stickers all over it my room had posters an album covers all over it Ringo Starr was the first drummer that inspired me but Gina was my role model she open the door for female drummers to actually get jobs in Hollywood I think her every day for my drumming ability and inspiration 58 years old I still play drums to this day and I still love the Go-Go’s
Excellent Rebecca!
LOL Ozzy giving you the boot for being too effed up? Jeez, get your life together! :D
Post World I’d add Bananarama too
There was no rivalry between the bangles and the go-gos.
It is amazing they all made it. So easy to get hooked. No educating kids about it, either. Makes you wonder...
I really think this documentary had a lot to do with them finally getting the nomination and the induction they so righteously deserved. BTW I just met Gina Schock the other night, when she's the coolest most down-to-earth person you could ever meet. I can't say enough what a great experience it was
They still look good!!! Damn!!😎🎸😍😍😍😍😘😘😘😘😘😘
I fell in love with Belinda the very first time I saw her on the "Head over heels" video. Still believe that was her best look ever...
They were the first album I ever bought, and their music holds up to this day. And they kicked ass!
I love the Go-Go's - Kathy and Gina are the best!
Congratulations to the Go-Go's. Announced just now - 2021 inductee into the RR Hall of Fame.
💜 the Go-Go's...so much beauty in one room!
The GoGos were my all-time favorite band in the 1980s and little did I know they ( or so I read) lived at the time right up the street from me and I had no idea. Cherokee & Delangpre ....
I wish there was a part2, the doc was AMAZING!
I love them, I can't wait to see this documentary.
Oh, I was so confused. When Belinda was speaking, they had Kelly's name appear. That was a mistake they should have caught before uploading.
Kathy not Kelly
Put these ladies in the Hall Of Fame already!
Belinda still looks beautiful. There are some mean people in the comments. They all look beautiful!
See "Tumbleweed Connection" comments, who- "loves" them. He's a great fan of theirs, apparently
@@R.U.1.2. post here the LINK to that, please.
@@ernestoribeiro2226 It's been ' Conveniently deleted:" Odd how that always happens:! He's a great fan of theirs apparently.
@@R.U.1.2. ha! no surprise at all... I would get good laughs from that...
Don't blame us, blame HER for what she's done to her face.
Belinda has had a lot of work done..... Sincerely, Mickey Rourke
Just takes $$$$$$$$
Still beautiful
The Go Go 's are the best girl group ever - no rock & roll hall of fame . That's caca. They should be !
Ummm, Joan Jett is.
Joan Jett was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame in 2015
The Bangles were better.
Antigone Rising.
Rosemary Clooney rocks! (Er, is this the Disney channel?)
How could Variety screw up Belinda's name??
Thank you that's what I was thinking
Wow! So cool! Iisten to them all the time still! I'm an 80s fanatic! 🙏🎧🙌
Love The Go•Go's! So many of my favorite songs weren't their big hits. You Can't Walk In Your Sleep, London Boys, Girl of 100 Lists, Beyond the Blue Sky, Skid Marks On My Heart, How Much More, etc, etc, etc.
If Hall & Oats can get into the Hall.....then The Go-Go's definitely deserve to be there too.
FREAKIN LOVE THE GOGOS !
"A lot of funny stuff on the cutting room floor"? Sounds like material for a Director's Cut! Bring it!
Those lovely ladies better be in the Rock and Roll-Hall of Fame. They deserve to be in it!
1:45-are we certain that's not Belinda?
A patina of insignificance…. such true words of what happens if something’s not “trending”
Just LOVE the Go Gos!!!! Wish they could pull off just one more REALLY great NEW album!!
She was so pretty before. I really wish she would not gotten plastic surgery. She looks kinda like Priscilla Presley. I wonder if they had the same doc?
Finally the GoGo's get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
Now the original Grand Funk Railroad need the be inducted!
Bad ass trend setting women!!!!! Love them!💯👍💜💓🥰😄
I Remember meeting Belinda Carlyle in Malibu ca very kind lady. 🤘💚👍
The lower third at the 1:44-minute mark is incorrect. Looking forward to seeing this in Canada. Soon I hope!
Love love love this band, always.
They still look good... beautiful as ever.
