Great performance, by the Go-Go’s! The crowd looked like they were all going to the principals office. 🤨. Nerds! You all got to see them in person! Appreciate that damn you! 😤 I’m jealous now… 😖😤
How could the audience NOT be tearing down the walls??? There was enough energy and talent coming off that stage to launch the space shuttle. I saw the Go-Go’s play Pittsburgh in 1984. It felt like the roof came off the Civic Arena that night. I was 15. I’m now 55 and I remember that night like it was yesterday! FIRE!
Agreed...I watched this on the night and over 40 years later can vividly remember my disgust at the audience's non-participation...there was a lot of snobbishness towards US bands at the time - plus no-one had seen an all-female outfit...
Sometimes UK crowds can be jaded to the point of apathy. This show was a case in point. If it were Blondie they'd be bouncing off the walls. They love that band.
I was lucky enough to meet her at a concert at Irvine Meadows in the early 80's. My girlfriend and I were sitting rather high up in the seats below the lawn when these two people walked up and sat in front of us. I instantly recognized Kathy and her date... Clem Burke, the drummer from Blondie. At one point they turned around and chatted with us. Great memory.
@@danberkman8227 Love Kathy's bass lines. But speaking as a bassist myself going from guitar to bass is like going from playing a drum set to playing tambourine. It's not that difficult of a transition.
I'm glad this is really live and not a lip synch performance show (like Top of the Pops or Solid Gold) that was so popular in England and the States back in the 80s. They sound great!

Not really, they're often flat/sharp as with a large percentage of live acts. If they did a vocal take like that in the studio it would be scrapped. That's why a lot of artists used to spend a week or more laying down a vocal track for one song.

same here. Saw them in the summer of 82 while in college, about to enter Junior year. The crowd was crazy. The ratio was about 70% to 30% girls to boys. And they all looked great, channeling their own Go-Go's look.
Saw them down at Duke University in the fall of 1982. Just terrific. A Flock of Seagulls was so good. God, I can't believe that's almost 40 years ago. As a side note, I could watch Belinda Carlisle dance, like she did in the early 80s, all night long.
The Go Go's bring back all the sunshine, sights, sounds and scents of the 1980's. The energy and the beauty is right there on the stage and in the sound. Take care all.

They were brilliant. Live, fitness, vocals, understanding of their respective instruments. Bridging the gap between punk from the 70s and more modern music, ( New Wave? ) from the 80s. They were bouncy and youthful and bursting with ideas and energy. Brilliant stuff.
Oh I do love that band! This is what true live sounds like. However, I think that Charlotte’s guitar could have used a little bit more reverb for depth.
Sorry to say it's my least favourite album of theirs, but I still like it though as I like all their albums alot. I loved the title track Vacation, also He's So Strange, We Don't Get Along, Get Up and Go, It's Everything but Partytime, The Way You Dance, Worlds Away & Beatnik Beach.
For those commenting on the audience's non-engagement, that is how British audiences are. I lived in England in the late 80s and went to see Rush at the Wembley Arena. I was so disappointed because of the complete lack of response from the crowd while the band was playing. I guess they are just taught to be proper and respectful while the performance is going on.
@ArturdeSousaRocha It definitely is a secret weapon. Lemmy was another guitarist who played the bass like a rhythm guitar. It’s a huge part of what made Motörhead great.
"Girl of 100 Lists" is such an incredible little song. The Go-Go's really had an amazing surplus of talented songwriters in the band. No wonder they had hits when basically every member had composition chops.

She is amazing. Did she play in other bands after the Go Gos?
I love to hear Kathy on the bass. She forms the foundation of that Go-Go’s sound.

Kathy is laying that bass sound right down in the groove! Like a sinewy cable of bass notes!
Yes an excellent bass performance and tone. Great mix to showcase this bass work.
Man, Kathy Valentine is an absolute rock! Everybody is playing well here, but the bass is the anchor for this show's whole set.
She's the "do your job and do it well" kind of bass player. Not in the business of showing off. Also sounds quite punk here.
Not bad for reportedly having not played the instrument for like a year before this was filmed. Previously Kathy had been a guitar player.
Agree

The Go-Go's rhythm section was one of the best in 80's pop, period. Gina and Kathy drove the band's sound
