    What a great and powerful performance. She doesn't try to break any speed records and this is how I feel this sonata should be played. Reminds me of the stunning live performance by Sokolov.

    This is an emotionally vast landscape...pathos, passion, searching, and an intense bittersweet beauty. Olga plumbs these depths while providing her own unique interpretation of this intellectually and soul demanding work which is one of the greatest sonatas of the 20th century. She was completely emotionally drained because she gave everything this music asked of her.

    We have finer , mre thoughtful musicians not just finger-pianists than I believe the heralded and much talked about period of 1890-1940's ! I see proof everyday . This is a truly memorable , insightful performance of a work that is played alog with Barber and Ginastera sonatas and now Carl Vine sonata more than most 20th century piano masterpieces ! She balances and weights here as fine as one would expect in Bach. The recording and maybe site itself doesn't allow me to hear subtleties of her pedaling but what I hear is fantastic -is a wonder seemingly not present so perfect is her sound palette ! She definitely has ideas !

    I confess that I am not familiar with Prokofievs Piano Sonatas at all, but still I am hit by this interpretation. Like if a new musical landscape opens up for me. I cannot judge if it is Olgas playing or Prokofievs music. I have to put this on repeat.

    • @staffanolofsson8201
      @staffanolofsson8201 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, and after some listening I begin to like this more and more. And I have learned it is almost a standard repertoire for pianists. This music is an outburst of the piano, but I have come to like the more poetic values in it, for example in the first movement. And the second movement is like a wonderful hymn.

    • @staffanolofsson8201
      @staffanolofsson8201 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      PS And I forgot to say how much I love Olgas playing in this. For me she is a genuine musician with a strive to get the most out of the music she plays.

      Agreed. Not as "loud" as some male pianists but there is a lot of "space" in this interpretation. The tempo helps too as the rhythmic dynamics become very legible. Thanks for your comment.... :o)

    Guess this piece is over my head bc I find the music a bit...what? Disturbing? Horrifying?
    The performance is impressive, but it us fricking grueling.
    Watching and hearing her play it almost feels like watching her be chased by an assailant while we stand by and do nothing. That is a bit sick!
    Feels like playing that way would warp you, and listening to her play it should make you want to rush the stage and SAVE her from the monster!
    Play more healthy pieces, Olga.

      It's meant to be that way. It's nickname, after all, is 'Tank Attack'. Please read the story behind this piece and you will understand why it has to be this way. Not all music is meant to be pretty and soothing.

    Is this music? Well, let's say yes. But it does not owe anything to really magical earlier composers like Brahms or Rachmaninov. I cannot fit into this stream. Olga Scheps is a good piano player and I listened to some of her other pieces, Chopin for example. Chopin's music sounded much better to me. I am giving Olga my great thank you but I will no more listen to anything Prokofiev's. I would call it Dissonata. I don't press 'like' because I don't like the music and I don't press "dislike" because I respect Olga being so courageous.

      @@AntypeC Thank you for your deep thought. Based on the way your comment is written, you judge my whole intelligence because I don't like Prokofiev's music. Sorry I doubt your reason then.
