So basically the plots of the episodes of She-Ra are A. Muh parents don't understand me B. Shipping C. An entire season's worth of exposition in one episode
You know for a show about relationships and LGBTQ, this show is dreadfully short on both. And you are definitely right about the two Dads being straight out of a 90s sitcom. And Bow's Dad being Antiwar makes more sense than being Anti-princess. And honestly, this eps, would be so much more interesting if Bow was estranged from his Dads because he joined the Rebellion and then they go to the library for info. and in the process, Bow and his Dads make amends. Way more interesting than ....this.
It's funny. They want to parade around how inclusive they are and how they are LGBT allies, and yet having a LGBT couple act like complete stereotypes from a 90's sitcom seems like a LOT of steps backwards.
All of that is very true, but both the LGBTQ Community and the Critics seem to eat it up like Candy. Seriously, it is ridiculous how much praise this Thing gets!
It does work in a way because we've tended to see that's what modern writers only seem to understand to write; situations like they come straight out of Step By Step or Family Matters.
@@funkmastaC The meaning would have more impact if the actual gay characters in the show weren't treated like afterthoughts. It's like Noelle is trying to tell the audience she 'cares' about other LGBT characters but, sorry Noelle. You want us to feel your 'caring'. Then actually have them be characters and not stereotypes. The funny thing is Noelle IS gay and she's proven to us that even if you're gay if you're a shit writer your gay characters will be shit characters.
Also, instead of having Adora get jealous of, and whine about one of her predecessors getting to ride a dragon, Just Have Her RIDE ONE IN THIS SHOW ALREADY!!! Honestly, the writers, showrunners and whole crew in general are just so unbelievably incompetent.
why are the dads idiots? how did two historians not figure out that bow's been fighting in a war? how did they not recognize their own princess? why did they just believe bow's lies about the academy when it never existed? i couldn't even hide a report card without my parents figuring out
its a problem i've seen in many "Teen" or "Kid" hero shows. they tend to make the adults morons or incompetent in order for the children to shine and take the lead. Shows like that are really hard to get invested in, if the previous generation is filled with idiots, what hope is there for the next one? i kinda feel like creators who don't have mentors or parents themselves are trying to write stories with or without them and failing.
@@IN-tm8mw That's a stupid idea to do. It makes the kids out to be bigger jerks in comparison by showing them as smarter than the parents and taking advantage of them.
@@humblemarty Examples and Experience is what equals wisdom. In shows like these, they have no credible adults for examples to learn from so the show gives the children more experience dealing with danger then the adults, thus making them more credible in crisis situations. I hate this trope but love when its used right. Like in the anime Bleach, you think Ichigo's dad is a fool and dont know anything but turns out he knew everything and was a hidden badass.
@@IN-tm8mw or Maka's dad in Soul Eater who is genuinely bumbling and idiotic until it's time to fight and he pushes all his stupid antics aside to take out some witches
@@IN-tm8mw And yet, they shut down criticism and only soak up praises for what they write in the show. One of the biggest problems with the creators of this show is basically their ego, and it gets into the way of storytelling.
One of the dad's being a horde sympathizer would have been genius. As a historian, him learning his beliefs were a lie this whole time have set some unnerving message that history is written by the victors. Missed opportunity.
Did they ever, like, go visit this 'school'? Make sure it's on the up and up? I wouldn't send my kid to a school unless I went there myself. Then again, this show hinges on the characters making dumb decisions.
My parents would have studied the school. EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. Plus how didnt they questions the money going 2 the school? Y did they never tried 2 visit the school? Like wtf
And why wouldn't Bow tell something to someone in the rebellion, if he had been captured or injured or killed no one would know how to reach his family.
I'm seriously pissed off that people are more focused on LGBTQ+ representation in today's cartoons than good story and character-writing. While I agree that diversity is great, forced diversity is only hurting creative storytelling, because you are not allowing the writers to be creative or tell the stories they want to tell. But people seem to be all to eager to eat up any LGBTQ+ representation and herald it as a masterpiece, even if the product is terribly written, the characters make no sense, and if it involves ignoring other aspects of the show's continuity or world building. I mean, how can anyone say Bo's dads are good representation? They are oblivious idiots who couldn't tell their son was lying to them, and despite being scholars and historians, they know nothing about current events because otherwise they would know their son was in the rebellion and that the princesses weren't as bad as they think. Not to mention they don't seem to care about their own morals, since they did a complete 180 when they figured out Bo was a rebel, and didn't even try to convince him to stop fighting. If they wanted to accept him, fine. But have the scene play out in a somewhat realistic manner. Have an argument, a back and forth, have Bo stand up for himself since he apparently can't do that to his family. Anything other than shouting, "best research squad!" Also, I have to ask: 13 kids? Really? Are they all adopted, or is there a mother? And if so, where is she? Normally I wouldn't harp on this kind of detail, but when you establish one of the main characters has gay dads and twelve siblings... yeah, I think that question deserves an answer. I'm assuming Bo at least isn't adopted given how closely he resembles his parents, so what happened to the mother?
Heck a more realistic take would be that Bo's parents still refuse to want him to join the best friends squad even after they got saved by She-ra due to the mere fact that she activated the very thing that threatened their lives and would most likely ignore the fact that they themselves asked for it initially. There could be a heated argument between the son and his parents where the dads in the heat of the moment kick everyone out as the argument is bringing back memories they tried to bury from the destruction of their village so long ago. Then a few episodes later after the parents had enough time to process what their son has been doing and reflect on their actions could try to find him to seek closure and make amends while trying to actually be historians and learn about the current war that they so clearly hid themselves from. But yeah, years of disdain do not just go away that quick. If anything they could still hate the princess squad but over time learn to mellow out by learning about how the current set is different from the one that they knew.
Further questions: Do all the kids have the same mother? Are the kids split between the two dads? Can same-sex couples reproduce in this universe? How?
What kind of shirt was he wearing anyway? Brave had a cloth ripping scene, but that was a full body dress. Was bow wearing a romper under those pants? Why did it rip?
Well in both this show and Brave, both are used as symbolism. Whereas in Brave, the traditional feminine dress represents her societal norms which confines her (and she complains how restricting it is) and so when she breaks tradition by shooting for her own hand, she rips the dress to achieve it. This show though, the shirt could represent his family's restriction on him and by ripping it he breaks free from it. However, the symbolism makes no sense as it should in no way restrict his access to his bow, and so unlike in Brave, the symbolism felt really forced and pretentious. It's an inferior version of the same symbols essentially. It feels like that kid that saw something cool in a movie and then went to the playground to reenact it terribly. Brave is the cool movie, and She-ra is that bad reenactment.
@@Dragonkid1801 l can understand Brave because she ripped the seams (which were made by hand), not the cloth itself. I mean, cloth is pretty fucking hard to rip just like that, Bow is fucking strong or his shirt is very cheap.

As soon as Bow wears a whole shirt: "OH NO BOW DISAPPEARED!"
Wow, I do not understand how anyone can be cheering about "representation" of _anything_ with this show. You don't represent anyone or anything if you're writing level is at hack levels. This show is such a waste and I'm disappointed that some people seem to be satisfied with characters as pathetic as these. That only encourages more hack writing! I'm getting sick of Hollywood thinking they can get away with laziness as long as they include LGBT and other minority characters in their shows and movies! If inclusivity = laziness, I don't want it! Edit: Wait, Netossa and Spinnerella are in a relationship? Really? I... never got that impression from anything I saw. I only got a colleagues and friends vibe from them. But then, how could I not _when they barely get any screen time?_
She-ra writers get a big, fat 'F' for finale writing. Your finales don't always have to end on cliffhangers, but they should definitely always be impactful in some way. I don't care if you just split a season in half--your finale needs to not be a filler episode.
Why is every man in this series emasculated? It's not that these are guys who don't embrace the 'macho' stereotype but are instead the EXTREME opposite of that which isn't better AT ALL. Bow's dads were annoying as hell and just a continuation of how Noelle can't write characters of any ages. We had a chance to show supportive parents but again, things are so one-sided in this show that all the adults come off as idiots for no reason but it doesn't make the kids look better. It just makes EVERYONE in the series irritating to follow. This goes into something the creator of Chowder mentioned a while back about the state of writing for animation in the US; most of the people they let on don't look at animation highly. They see it as something below them instead of a TOOL to get their story out. What they want to be are SITCOM writers and it feels like the writers of Nu-Ra are just that but these are sitcoms that are even blow things seen on Nickelodeon and Disney. At least on those shows there is supposed to be consistency and they align with the tone they're making but nothing works in Nu-Ra. Everything is so thrown off all for the sake of Noelle and her crew satisfying themselves instead of continuing the legacy of an established property and introducing it to a new generation. This is clearly her crew wanking it to their own fantasy situations but using the She-Ra characters as a means of getting it out, even if the audience doesn't care at all and wants something else. This is where the faults of the show really start to show their ugly head and that is, for a show that preaches about itself, it's really not breaking any new grounds as well as being kind of backwards. This isn't to say that characters aren't allowed to be funny or serious, especially for an animated series that is SUPPOSED to be able at children, but again the tone of this series doesn't feel like it's something that kids are interested in but very, very sappy teens and young adults. If you contrast how this show works with its 80s counterparts, which were very well aware they were for children, you can see how Nu-Ra misses all the points. In fact, if you want a good example of a kid's show with tons of action and a family dynamic allow me to introduce you to Bionic Six. BS was about a family who were genetically enhanced with various powers and abilities and the parents adopted two other kids, one Black and one Asian, into their family. Even though this was a kids' show the parents were full into the action as they were apart of the experiments and scientists themselves. The mother was given physic powers while the father had super strength. The reason for this was that the writers wanted kids to know that they did have power but it was perfectly fine for them to ask their parents for help when they needed it, hence why the parents were allowed in on the adventures and were shown as their own characters and not just canon fodder. This was one of a nice handful of Western shows that knew how to incorporate parents and older characters into animation without relying on making them the butt of the jokes or oblivious to what was going on. You want another good example of a power parent. Dr. Light from the current Mega Man cartoon on CN, At this point we're just watching the show tick by since there is nothing that can really be done to 'fix' the series. It's already done and new episodes are coming in about two months from what I heard but I don't expect anything but the same old shit. I mean, what was I supposed to expect from one of the worst series on currently from one of the worst characters in the show? Bow is a spineless little twerp so of course his dads would be massive stereotypes as well with shitty designs, one that looks like it's lifted from Dream Daddy. And yes, I know the concept of dreds isn't new but the dude looks like a complete rip. Was this done as a reference or just being lazy.
@@meanncat3050 And it doesn't help the story or her point at all in the end. She keeps FORCING her POV into all of this and all it does is create a lot of backlash, especially when the parents are never fleshed out to begin with so it just casts more doubt on her ability to write characters as a whole.
Ironically another TH-camr named Crimson Sin was dead on about this episode being a 90s sitcom stereotype, and that the light spinner episode should've been the finale. He also has the same confusion about bow tearing off his shirt to reach his bow and arrows. This episode really is one of, if not the most dissapointing episodes ever
@Neil Brown Oh believe me, I am waiting with baited breath for it. I have a morbid curiosity for this show, just like the Sequels. I want to see how it ends.
My heart breaks that money was wasted on this and it paints a very low bar for story telling, plot and theme. I want more funding in Gravity Falls before this disappointment of a show.
So, I've watched two animated programs this year that introduced a canonically gay couple into the series. Bow's Dads in She-Ra and The Princesses of Power, and Scootaloo's Aunts in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. While one show portrayed its couple in a light that was respectful, charming, and didn't fall into over-the-top stereotyping...the other was Bow's Dads in She-Ra and The Princesses of Power.
@@SuperCosmicMutantSquid you know you are so right. The writers of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic know what they were doing. Why, Excellent Canadian-based genius writing. The writing was not only done with Americans writing the show, but also had excellent Canadian writing in it since Canada is awesome when they write good shows (like Ed Edd n Eddy, which Danny Attonoucci is Canadian and some of the writers wrote MLP, which is why I loved both). I love Canada btw. ;)
@@JojoMonReturns91 Most of the writers on MLP already had careers in comics and animation before they got the job so they know how to handle scripts. Faust had worked in animation for YEARS, much longer than Noelle, before she got the gig as head and it shows. She has a better understanding of how the industry works and knows how to work within the limits that many networks set up on animated series for young kids. She knows the insides and out but also how to play them to make things easier for herself. Noelle comes off as being too inexperienced to realize this which is why everything about Nu-Ra comes off as being so clumsy and difficult to follow, whether that be due to the bad writing or just the sheer disinterest that comes from watching a show this god damn boring. But I shouldn't say that because Noelle DOES have SOME experience but what it shows doesn't come off like she does. In a way it almost feels like the crew are too scared to put in limits for her because 'offensive' or some shit but as a result we've gotten a mess of a show. I have NO CLUE to what is happening behind the scene but it makes you curious given just how the final product has come out.
'A boarding school' in the middle of a WAR?? Yeap, Noelle Stevenson are the best new writer of all World! (Yes, the sentence structure of the second is intentional.)
@@DrawciaGleam02 Yes, usually in ANOTHER COUNTRY. And what is up with Bow's dads not being drafted into military service? I mean, George already was a soldier, so he'd be up to fight again. It's not like the Princess Alliance ever LOST, they apparently still have their nations which are apparently under siege... Except that at no time is anyone in real danger, there's no actual 'front' for this 'war'.
The thumbnail was kinda gross. I wish you could rewrite the whole series. I think you could have done a much better job. And honestly the bad guys have a better story arc then the good guys.
I think it is intentional, they are probably trying to show the villains aren't complete monsters, something Tokyo Ghoul and My Hero Academia did better.
1. So George doesn't know that their queen had a daughter? He didn't know of the new princess alliance? Are they isolated from society? Why? I really wanna hear his thoughts on the horde then, if he's given up on the princesses. Saying something like most of them dying off in the war could be a good reason, but how do you want to deal with the horde then? 2. On another review of this episode, that person said that i would be better if one of the parents didn't forgive so quickly. To be given time and for Bow to understand That. It would make it equally relatable for the audience they're targeting. 3. I was thinking of those same questions: why don't they know about this boarding school? A good example would be that Bow could take advantage of Lance's forgetfulness - casually putting it "didn't I tell you Dad" or "I told Dad" - so that he can keep the lie up. Keep Up The Good Work~!
One of my most major issues with the show is that it has numerous problems that are commonly criticized, and rightly so, on the more mainstream comics and cartoon media. Wrong proportions, broken backs, you name it...
So what are your bets on what the third season will have? My guesses are: Kyle will still be a chew toy, Huntara will be butch as her main personality trait, more lesbian pairings of established female characters, (I heard a rumor of Peek-A-Blue and Sweet Bee being a couple) The Flimation horde members will not be used, and Sea Hawk being annoying.
@@carlacarrero4975 There's a difference between showing your muscles, and showing your lower stomach. One is a overt display of machismo, the other is... well, equivalent to a woman having her shirt ripped to show her lower stomach. (Thinks back to The Clone Wars)
Scorpia might be roughly between 16-18 yrs old physically; mentally 10-12yrs old; that's just from Scorpia's actions so far. However speculation over conversation between Scorpia & Sea Hawk makes me have ponder on her actual intelligence.
We can only guess, but in the show they say or they show the horde taking over the Scorpian territory and getting the black Garnet. So they didn't come in peace. The horde always take young children from different areas for the army. Its not that hard to guess that Scorpia is one of those children. Shadow Weaver has still light spinner in this time so way before Adora and Catra. It's really kinda difficult to guess. Because we don't see her in Adora and Catras memories. Scorpia was told that her family trusted the horde and let them stay. We dont see the other Scorpians so either they were executed or in hinding with the other cities in the prom episode. I think Scorpia was a teen when Catra and Adora were kids. So my thought is Scorpia's in her 20s or in adulthood. She was probably hidden in the freight zone because she was a princess.
The whole LGBT+ Representation thing for this show is so forced. They don't really do anything with it, it's literally then just going "Hey look LGBT+ is in here please love us" when really it's all in our faces and has no meaning behind it. That could just be my opinion, but it's how I feel
The thing is, is that you don’t need to do anything with anything lgbt. It can be there without it having to do anything. However the problem with this show, is that they’re constantly hailing this show for lgbt. The main basis for this show is LGBT, and the main selling point I lgbt, and the only reason anyone ever talks about this show is because lgbt. It’s why it feels forced and doesn’t work. Because if they weren’t constantly shoving it in our face as if we should care about it more than plot, that’s when the representation fails
There was an episode in the original where Hordak is after the treasures of an extinct but advanced civilization, thinking it is weapons and he is disappointed to find art and ancient texts, because as a warmonger he is unable to understand the value of preserving culture, way better than this.
I think it was called "The Treasure of the First Ones". A really nice episode, and a Concept they could have used to give Reboot-Seahawk a cool adventure.
@@johannesseyfried7933 that would require them to care about the male characters, they only care about Bow because he is a pathetic beta and a bully to boot.
I know its too damn late for this show, but find a tone and stick with it. Even with how bad the characters and all are, the vast tonal shifts just exaggerate everything by like ten fold. Sadly, it will only get worse from here, cause the Swift Wind Shorts exist.
I saw Bow's backstory as drawing parallels to coming out in a homophobic household bc of the very specific language he uses to describe his situation. That's why it has to be kept vague so the audience can put their self in Bow's shoes, but it really weakened his character in the process.
Don't forget they are also historians so the fact that they don't know who the current princesses of their respective regions are is pretty bad. Them not knowing Adora I would understand since she's only very recent.
In the end, it's never about story. Just whatever appeals to the populace or whatever niche crowd. To hell with story and character development. Lets resolve everything in one episode. Ironic because they do that over the course of a series with the villains than they do the heroes when BOTH sides need to be fleshed out. To hell with alluding from previous episodes of a character's background until the reveal.
So, only 6 more episodes before this thing is actually over, then. I doubt they'll get another even if they pull the same move and leave the final episode with some stuff to be concluded later on. How many shows have done that only to die without a proper ending?
The one thing that really grinds my gears about this show is that it has a great potential in being a great show yet the writers arent taking advantage of that potential and only focusing on petty drama and romantic relationships that arent going anywhere other than again creating petty drama. I just wish the writers will take more time and thought into the writing.
There was also an episode in the original which also dealt with children lying to their father, called The Missing Axe, in which two brothers ask their father, who is a woodcutter, if they can go chop wood for him whilst Bow is visiting their house, the father reluctantly says yes, but warns them to be careful with his axe, as it was his tool for making a living for them. After a while they get tired and go to cool off in a nearby brook and leave the axe unattended, two Twiggets come upon it and take it to go search for the owner, the boys come back to find it missing, so when they return home without it, they lie and say it was stolen by someone, Bow goes to town to search for whoever fit the description they gave, but ultimately gets caught by Mantenna, She-Ra comes along searching for Bow and the lads fess up after they accidentally expose their lie. She-Ra flies off, rescues Bow and they return to the house where the father and his sons are to let them know everything was now OK, now, instead of hugs and instantly getting over the fact that they lied to him, he does ultimately forgive them, but he explains why them lying was wrong, the trouble and danger it caused, and that whilst he forgives them, they will have to work over time to regain his trust in them, in order for him to give them more responsibilities. Again as you said, the defenders of the new show dumped on the original for being campy and unrealistic, but here comparing the two, whilst in the slightly cheesy way we know and expect from the original, it still manages to deal with the concept of children lying to their parents, the consequences etc, in a far more mature, realistic and relatable way... and they wonder why we don't like this reboot! It's nothing more than a joke!
You would think that forced and cliché LGBTQ+ "representation" in this kind of shows would be actually offensive for the LGBTQ+ community, or at least what their efforts are all about... And yet this show gets praise for it? What?
That's what happens when people are so starved for representation, they'd jump at anything that could be seen as such. This episide couldv've been written entirely different without changing the fact Bow has 2 dads, but they intentionally decided for making a parody of a coming out story. Har har har....so funny....
Welcome to She-Ra! Join us next season as we deal with spinster aunt Castaspella moving in to annoy Queen Angela while our heroes must hide that they put off their homework due tomorrow! Meanwhile, the Fright Zone actually moves the plotline, however mediocre a job it does. Dear Lord, how can they turn something with so much potential into this?
The Brotherhood wasn't a rewrite, it was the original story. If your confused its because FMA is based on a manga of the same name. When they made the frist anime they found out that the manga wasn't close to being done or would be in time for their show. So they made orginal content half way through.
Predictions for She-Ra season 3: -The First Ones are evil -Entrapta wil see the error of her ways and be easily forgiven despite all the lines she crossed -Kyle will die along with Hordak (if only Kyle wasn't born a white male, the cause of all troubles in the universe, and that was sarcasm in case you haven't noticed) -Catra and Scorpia will be a couple, Ditto for Adora and Glimmer, unless she hooks up with Bow, in that case Bow will be submissive and Glimmer will be dominant -Frosta will make a huge ice statue of Glimmer in her kingdom, why? why not?

I think Bow's story was meant to be a metaphor for coming out of the closet to one's parents, but it was poorly handled to me. I find this show handles LGBT characters in a rather poor way, not only with how they treat Netossa, Spinnerella, Bow's parents, Sweet Bee, Peek-A-Blue, and Kyle. They've gone out of their way to say he's interested in Rogelio, (who still hasn't had a line), but they also treat Kyle like total crap. This, combined with a major member of the production staff saying men with depression is funny leads to some serious unfortunate implications. There's a reason I call this series the most homophobic show that tries to appeal to the LGBT. If you want to see a show that handles LGBT characters much better, I'd recommend The Loud House.
I find it hypocritical that voltron gets crap for queer baiting when she ra does it the exact same thing but worse. At least with Voltron, they had Shiro have a wedding and kissing a guy despite people understandably hating it. Here, most of the ship tease are basically sexual harassment (Catadora and ScorpiaxCatra) and the only shown canon LGBT couple (Nettossa and Spinnerella) are snubbed, have less screentime, and have the least lines of the show. Swift wind has more lines than they do AND has shorts dedicated to him. Jk Rowling has done the same thing Noelle Stevenson did yet she gets condemned while Noelle gets praise up the ass, gets an award, and fucking talking about making a memoir! The amount of bullshit is too high
As corny as the original was at times, it's so much better than this. It's a shame She-Ra never got the He-Man treatment of it's last reboot. Man that was awesome. I love when they explore character background personally. Such a shame they don't do it properly.

Don't u know how gay men have babies? One dad sticks his dick up the other dad's urethra and blows his load. 9 months later, the pregnant dad shits the gay baby out. Schools should be made to teach these ignorant cis-heads a gender studies class
Maybe they go around finding babies like the horde? I mean, if the world is engulfed in this "big war", l dont think they would still have a system to adopt children...
In any military organization, Scorpia would be punished, either being demoted, going to the worst jobs, and in the case of The Horde i don't doubt physical punishment would be an option.
"But then things are actually happening in the horde." Sorry to break it to you but that's basically the whole 2nd season (and some of the first too). For the most part the only really 'interesting' (whatever that means) plot lines have been the horde focused ones and they are usually the only ones really doing anything while the rebellion just faffs about. I mean, they're doing STUFF but nothing interesting.
Yo, avatar called and said you can keep the ridiculous library episode just leave them out of it. Dream daddy is on the other line asking about character modeling.
For a show that claims to be so “progressive,” it certainly seems to like using outdated gay stereotypes. Also, not only are Scorpia and Catra not on the same page, they’re reading two completely separate books.
>Thank Glimmer for bringing Bo out to his shell >Bo has snubbed someone genuinely trying to reach out. _Oof._ Could Bo's _gay_ parent's having to accept him for who he is in this, could this be interpreted as gay parents needed to accept their straight child? Nah, it's all about how Adora is She-ra doesn't care who knows it. Also, the shirt thing is the dumbest thing this show has produced, and that's saying something... And let's be honest. This episode is recycled. They have so little plot, they have to rehash old ideas from several episodes into one.
The fact that Bow's parents are both guys and he has 12 siblings raises so many questions about this family. How many kids are related to each father? Do they have the same mother or multiple? Are they adopted and Bow's the only related kid so that's why he gets the inheritance? Are two sexes needed to produce off-spring in this version of the world?
Why do people praise the LGBTQ+ writing in this show again? These two dads are such huge stereotypes it would make the writers of 90's sitcoms blush. The first thing you need in good LGBTQ+ couple is good character writing. That should always be the first thing. But instead, this show seemingly chooses to focus on absolutely nothing needed for this show. All this does is make the characters look like morons. If you want to be a slow-paced action adventure show, don't pretend you are a highschool sitcom.
It's just me that is a bit curious to know how did a gay couple of two men manage to have 133 kids? I guess you can adopt, but Bow is also very similar to both, so it seems he must have the genes or at least one of the two. Is there a biological mother that supported the couple for some of these 13 births? Is there a completely artificial process that mixed the DNA of the two parents? And where are the other 12? 12 people is a lot in this show, is basically 30% of the whole civilian population on Etheria, for what we have seen so far. Shouldn't Bow family be one of the great powers of this world?
Maybe they just go around finding babies like the horde? Idk, l dont think there is a sytem for adoption in this desolated place in the middle of (whats supposed to be, according to the show) a big war.
@@Naharu. random adoptions of found orphans would be the most logical explaination, but Bow is so similar to his parents that they seems genetically related, that's why I'm curious. It's also simply possible that in that region everybody looks alike because of genetic isolation, I guess.
So only 7 episodes, that’s pretty lame. And just so you girls know, the entire series was meant to be one season, but it got split into 3 parts (hence why I’ve been calling this season part 2). And I also think that CBR isn’t a trustworthy website, so you should just ignore it. Of course Bow’s dads are stereotyped, writers like these only check of boxes just to appease a demographic for their money. They don’t actually have to make their gay characters that deep, or even consistent in the case of George. It’s actually pretty insulting for LGBTQ. Then there’s everything you two brought up like how nobody treats the war seriously, to the randomness of Bow showing his midriff just to take his weapon. It’s really hard to imagine the next season getting better considering a lot of the old mistakes have returned along with some new ones. Any ways, great review ❤️
New shera is so poorly written, i expected absolutely nothing from these episodes but i'm still disappointed. Why do Bow's dads have a library that no one knows about in the middle of the woods? What's the point of a library if no one can use it?
The whole schtick about George getting over his anti-princess so quickly as well as the reaction Bow’s parents have when Bow tips of the midriff of his sweater honestly makes me think that the writers saw this as a “coming out of the closet” scenario but the metaphor REALLY doesn’t work here and comes of as very degrading to both what they’re attempting to talk about and also to the show itself. I’ve been rewatching Codename Kids Next Door ever since the show has been put up on Boomerang/VRV and that show manages to handle story elements such as conflict, suspense and actual character motives way better than this show, which is honestly rather sad.
It's a good show, but if they want more teen drama and adult elements then I would say look no further than TMNT 2012. IMO it has the best turtles, fight scenes, and shredder battle that wasn't even a finally. Not to mention keeps up with continuity, arcs, and knows when to take shit seriously while still having room for wacky episodes. One of my favorite series of all time, and the best example of how to take a 80's series that was/is built on action figures and make something great.
Feels like the entire point of this episode was for the writers to show how progressive they were by having a gay couple. Despite the fact that Bow having so many brothers and Glimmer somehow knowing nothing about this made no sense.
I can maybe accept Lance being accepting of Bow's choices, but George? He really should've been more against it than anything. Also, way to go blowing your cover, Adora. Couldn't have just ran off and changed, huh?
I am a female and I reject this show's girl representation! Any LGBT people reject this show's representation? I'm honestly curious if you actually think it's good.
You just need to search for positive Videos about She-Ra. There are countless LGBT People who think this Show is the greatest Thing since sliced Bread. I don't really get it. But then again, maybe I have to be Part of the LGBT Community to understand the Appeal of this Reboot.
Why would bows gay dads be shocked to see their son wearing a crop top? Why was that such a dramatic moment? Like, they are stereotyped gay characters, so wouldn’t they be okay with him dressing like a girl?
Wait... Bow has 12 siblings?! That makes the following question all the more serious: HOW were the 13 kids born to a GAY couple? That's one of the things that irks me whenever I see cartoon gay couples with kids. They NEVER explain how they came into existence. Were they adopted? or is this the America Chavez logic, where space magic can impregnate people that can't procreate amongst themselves...? EXPLAIN, PEOPLE! EXPLAIN!
Personal headcannon: one of his dad’s were bisexual and so bow is a child from a previous straight relationship. The other all were conceive by different women with one of the dad’s sperm
@@malachiowens3423 And therein lies the problem. Handcannon is just a code word that the author was just too lazy to put any thought into something and is relying on the viewer to fill the gaps for them.
Hey girls. I am sorry about how Nutflex She-Man was terrible. Really, this has become saddening for us all this week as this final week is the LGBTQ end month and to have it end like this is rather dissappointing. Im sorry you girls had to suffer this series as I already lost my favorite company, Mattel, to the hack Noelle Stevenson and her bs writing along with her staff. I knew this reboot was going to suck. The show ripping off Avatar: The Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, not to mention My Little Pony Friendship is Magic really makes you believe that what Noelle is doing is DAMAGING A FRANCHISE THAT WAS LEGENDARY IN TERMS OF LARRY DITILLO. I want to hug both of you since I already felt destroyed about She-Ra going this route. This saddens me sinfe Mattel broke me heart when they did the SDCC exclusive, which as you guys know, is how Mattel ended up doing that new Netflix She-Man series. Like I said to Geeky, Im sorry I FAILED TO PROTECT SHE-RA. I pray now there will be a stop towards reboots for a while to reflect that its best to leave it be than to ruin a good reputation towards the franchise. As I stated before with ClownfishTV, Old She-Ra is dead now. And I pray I hope no more reboots kill the past to present a bad future. I DO NOT WANT TERMINATOR 2 TO HAPPEN HERE! :'( Thank you for the review girls
14:47 Oh brother this show has Cartoon Network 3rd Act monsters. 😒 *The Regular Show, Teen Titans Go, Modern PowerPuff Girls, Amphibia ( It's a Disney show but still follows it) , and Victor and Valenteno formula.* Charcater A: I want to do that thing Charcater B: Don't do that thing Charcater A: Dose it anyway Character A: Oh no a third act monster I didn't see that coming.
18:18 This episode made it clear which parent Bow gets his eccentricity from...Lance. "Best Research Squad!" and "...we thought we were being supportive when actually we were being terrible!" Both versions of things Bow has said.
It was episodes like this one that makes me ask that question that I did many a times in season 1. "Why haven't the Horde took over already?", only for it to cut over to the Horde and go "oh yeah....". The last She-ra must have been the glue that held everything together cause these guys stink at saving the world, this Generation and the last! I have never seen a show where what should be the main plot takes so much of a back seat that it's not even the B plot or the C plot, it's like the Q plot! So much stuff is thrown into this show with little to no thought that is makes me cringe hard. I mean so they have been trying to rack their brains around First One's tech and seem to go out of their way of not asking Light Hope and now we come to find out that Bow's Dads have a stock pile of First One's stuff and know a good bit about it and the ONLY reason we learn this is cause of the 90's Plot line going on, not so much as "Hey this might be a good place to find something!" It's not bad, but if they just wanted to make a show with Modern day teen drama, why didn't they just make a show about that? Why even did this have to be She-ra? Heck when you strip away anything this show has to do with She-ra, the Horde, Princesses, and roll with everything else, this would have been a nice show to throw on Nick, CN, or something!
By the way; That article about the "Shiro" thing with Voltron. My guess the author is a shipper that wanted him with either Lance or Keith and got mad that didn't happen. Being happy with getting stereotypes makes one question if they really want "Representation" at all, or just want their fanfictions to come be in the show and just want to make themselves feel important for bringing attention to it.
There is a whole lot of drama behind the Shiro thing. Originally the show runners were trying to apparently do a MACROSS crossover and have him be shipped with ROY and there are clues that this is true that Roy is seen in the background of some of the earlier episodes. This was dropped because of (of course) rights issues and all but there is this little thing that ROY wasn't fucking gay and was in a relationship with Claudia before he dies.
I don't remember where I heard this, but someone was given a tour of where they made Voltron, and then threatened them they'd leak a bunch of stuff if they didn't make this fan's shipping canon, and suspiciously after that, they announced Shiro would be gay.
@@MaverickhunterXZero No, that was for Kieth and Lance. From day one the writers wanted Shiro to be gay so that was always to happen but it was just to WHO that changed. Like I said, they were already going to do it with Roy but stopped once they realized they kinda sorta didn't really have any clearance with anyone connected with Macross to do it.
@@MaverickhunterXZero Just more reasons to show that shipping fucks up storytelling. The first priority a writer should focus on is making sure the story just makes sense, not what crack pairing Tumblr wants.
I have to wonder: is there *ANY* rational human being in charge of quality control at Netflix? She-Ra is a "show" but did anyone check to see if the stories made sense? Noelle Stevenson's sexuality shouldn't exempt her from the duty she has to Netflix to NOT be horrible at her job of seeing to it that her series is telling an entertaining story that makes sense... but LGBTQ is "hip" in 2019 so it kind of does. Is there LGBTQ respresentation in this show? Until Bow's dads showed up, you'd hardly notice it and that isn't what I'd call progressive. Is there a war taking place in this show? You'd barely know it from the tone we're exposed to most of the time. At this stage, She-Ra should not be struggling with what kind of show it's trying to be but it is. Its continued existence at its current level of writing tells me that corporate executives at Netflix are woefully out of touch with what makes entertainment entertaining and are willing to give anyone a show without checking to see if it is any good. They need to talk to Disney to find out who they need to hire to make sure they don't put out such a waste.
Bruh I felt the same way about Netossa and Spinnerella. It makes no sense how they get less screen time then secondary characters like Lance and George when they were supposed to be main characters
Honestly, this whole thing would have made sence if Bow was the oldest. If they had 12 more children just runing around the libary, it would have at least make a bit more sence that they don't pay much atention to Bow. His parents would ptobably jus trust him as the eldest and they could've just shown them as far too tired to see that Bow is lying to them. Would have been disgusting of bow but do I need to remind you what he did to Kyle. After that I wouldn't be that surprised. Also sence this show just LOVES comedy so much there could have been so much of them runing around the libary and George and Lance trying to keep the libary in one piece. And if that heapend we would at least get to see his siblings instead of them just being mentioned and probably forgoten later on.
This isn’t relevant to the episode but I can’t be the only one who’s gets annoyed over characters like Huntara? Like a lot of girls in this show (including She ra) have this big bulky frame, and yes I know that some girls do have a wider chest and such and there’s no reason to be ashamed, but also have no other feminine features besides long hair or a higher voice. Is this the writers/animators way of showing strong woman? Because none of these “strong” female characters have any discernible traits that make them stand out. This show thinks that big muscles equals strong good representation of woman. Also can we talk about the lack of decent guy characters in this show? Bow is annoying as heck and got a little bit of character development in season 4, SeaHawk is also a dimwit, and the rest are with the Horde, or bumbling idiots (Bow’s dads). I’m a girl and I want better guy characters!!
bow's parents are like parodies of gays from the 90's. bow's parents are terrible parents. wouldnt they at least investigated the supposed school that bow supposedly was attending? but then again they (the "writers" in this show" use "parents are dumb as dirt" card. this finale and this show is beyond terrible. agreed the lightspinner episode should have been the "season finale"
Sorry . . . It's hard to type in my small office with this elephant in the room . . . Who the heck are these 13 kid's mom(s) and how did two cartoonishly gay guys have that many kids? Bow certainly seems to, somehow, be both men's kid. Does Etheria have the ability to magically allow non-sexual reproduction? Did the show mention that most of Bow's siblings are adopted? (Maybe that's why Bow's going to inherit the library?)
@@johannesseyfried7933 It's possible, but did the show mention that? Bow certainly looks and acts a lot like his dads, like he's their biological child. We don't see any of the others so they might be. But the story doesn't say anything about adoption. It just seems to imply that "sure you can have two biological dads - moms are unnecessary."
This wasn't even season 2. All they did take a regular 26 episode season, split into 3 parts, and called it "Season 1 2 & 3" . It's just a way for Netflix to milk it for as long as possible.
Allright I cheked to see the writters hystory and must of them seem to be facebook or twitter profiles with one having 2 books that aren't fantasy and one being an artist.
The most threatening thing in the show so far is Hordak but how can he be taken seriously when he staffs his upper chain of command with petulant teenagers instead of proper adults that oversee his child army. He may be a competent villain but hes' surrounded himself with idiots and is destined to fail.
@@nendymion Right? You'd think he'd have Octavia be the Second in Command of an army, you know someone who is older with more experience. But nope let's give the chain of command to an emo teen girl with mom issues and has a high school drama feud with the deserter enemy. Hordak is lucky that He-Man isn't here. Cause he would have ended the entire Horde army in less than an hour
'they literally had it written on the door of their fortress.' Moria gates ... 'Speak friend and enter'. Of course Tolkien made it make sense, having a character say it was from a peaceful time.
Are Bow's dads supposed to be his ACTUAL dads? As in they are his genetic parents? As well as the parents of 12 other boys? If that's what's happening here, has ANYONE who works behind the scenes of this show EVER been to school? Or learned anything about the circle of life at all?
So basically the plots of the episodes of She-Ra are
A. Muh parents don't understand me
B. Shipping
C. An entire season's worth of exposition in one episode
And from what I heard, there could be either a musical episode or it's going to pull a SU and stick a song in the middle of an ep
@@leonishikino6873 *Starts seeing Adora sing about giant women*
Oh God, no...
@Neil Brown On top of that, Catra's actress did Stevonnie, the fusion of Steven and Connie.
They sacrificed plot for the sake of a literal parody of a coming out story
All of that is very true, but both the LGBTQ Community and the Critics seem to eat it up like Candy.
Seriously, it is ridiculous how much praise this Thing gets!
Calling this a 90's sitcom is a bit generous.
It does work in a way because we've tended to see that's what modern writers only seem to understand to write; situations like they come straight out of Step By Step or Family Matters.
It is literally a coming out episode. How did we get a coming out episode about being a warrior two his two dads? I guess this is modern day progress.
1960's Batman has more consistency than this show
why are the dads idiots? how did two historians not figure out that bow's been fighting in a war? how did they not recognize their own princess? why did they just believe bow's lies about the academy when it never existed?
i couldn't even hide a report card without my parents figuring out
its a problem i've seen in many "Teen" or "Kid" hero shows. they tend to make the adults morons or incompetent in order for the children to shine and take the lead.
@@vamp_bat_chomp funny cause he was captured and probably never told his parents that, messed up
More importantly where the hell are the other siblings?
@@azurai3934 Absent from Season 5, that's where they are.
I get the Feeling the Writers just forgot about them.
Anything other than shouting, "best research squad!"
Also, I have to ask: 13 kids?
Aye I 'm sick of it too
Almost everything you said pretty much explains why everyone is critical about Vol. 6 of RWBY and how it handled the whole Bumblebee thing.
Presentation before representation. Do it well or not at all.
Further questions: Do all the kids have the same mother? Are the kids split between the two dads? Can same-sex couples reproduce in this universe? How?
"almost as if he's defined by his midriff and his weapon" XD yeah that shirt-ripping scene was the basically the weirdest thing I've ever seen
That was... totally like women burning the bras.
As soon as Bow wears a whole shirt:
"OH NO BOW DISAPPEARED!"
I thought Bows daddy was against war and i thought wow a good conflict but He get over it so easily that it was better not be against
Goes to show how little the creators put into this episode
She-ra writers get a big, fat 'F' for finale writing. Your finales don't always have to end on cliffhangers, but they should definitely always be impactful in some way. I don't care if you just split a season in half--your finale needs to not be a filler episode.
You CAN nickname your superior officer. You can just never ever ever call them that to their face.
Dr. Light from the current Mega Man cartoon on CN,
At this point we're just watching the show tick by since there is nothing that can really be done to 'fix' the series.
I think Noelle hates her parents and has a warped view of parents because of it.
@@meanncat3050 And it doesn't help the story or her point at all in the end. She keeps FORCING her POV into all of this and all it does is create a lot of backlash, especially when the parents are never fleshed out to begin with so it just casts more doubt on her ability to write characters as a whole.

The bar is so low not even James Cameron and his submarine (South Park) can raise it.
So, I've watched two animated programs this year that introduced a canonically gay couple into the series. Bow's Dads in She-Ra and The Princesses of Power, and Scootaloo's Aunts in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Noelle comes off as being too inexperienced to realize this which is why everything about Nu-Ra comes off as being so clumsy and difficult to follow, whether that be due to the bad writing or just the sheer disinterest that comes from watching a show this god damn boring. I think it is intentional, they are probably trying to show the villains aren't complete monsters, something Tokyo Ghoul and My Hero Academia did better.
I’d rather just watch the villains. Honestly I skipped some of the stuff with the hero’s this season of boredom
I just realized Adora looks like a bad drawing of Aang from Avatar.
haha maybe a little bit.
And She-Ra looks like Ben 10 in drag.
Every part of this series is badly drawn.
One of my most major issues with the show is that it has numerous problems that are commonly criticized, and rightly so, on the more mainstream comics and cartoon media. Wrong proportions, broken backs, you name it...
And now, all I can see is Aang in a wig.
So... She-Ra cant have breasts, but Bow rips his shirt to show off his lower abs...?
Hypocrisy. Another trait of a SJW.
Acesahn you do realize that even in shonen mangas the characters are always shirtles right? Just look at one piece for crying out loud ¡
@@carlacarrero4975 There's a difference between showing your muscles, and showing your lower stomach. One is a overt display of machismo, the other is... well, equivalent to a woman having her shirt ripped to show her lower stomach. (Thinks back to The Clone Wars)
Weirdly bow looks like both of his dads. Also again, how old is Scorpia?
maybe that's why they like him so much more than his twelve other siblings.
Scorpia might be roughly between 16-18 yrs old physically; mentally 10-12yrs old; that's just from Scorpia's actions so far. However speculation over conversation between Scorpia & Sea Hawk makes me have ponder on her actual intelligence.
@@imp360 The Hoard kidnaps kids and are the bad guys....
Sounds like Bow's dads are pretty much the same thing but just incompetent.
@@SuperCosmicMutantSquid but they didn't kidnap anyone they adopted them
We can only guess, but in the show they say or they show the horde taking over the Scorpian territory and getting the black Garnet.

9:56 that's creepy. Even for a overbearing parent trope.
I saw Bow's backstory as drawing parallels to coming out in a homophobic household bc of the very specific language he uses to describe his situation. That's why it has to be kept vague so the audience can put their self in Bow's shoes, but it really weakened his character in the process.
"So not only are they baby pictures, but they're naked baby pictures." *FBI, OPEN UP!*

thanks for the heart!
You're welcome. Thanks for the compliment. :)
The showrunners put more emphasis on the 2 dads rather than Bow.
Oh sugar here we go again...
How do Bow’s parents not recognize that Glimmer is the princess of Brightmoon? You’d think that would be a major red flag if they’re anti-princess.
I doubt they'll get another even if they
pull the same move and leave the final episode with some stuff to be concluded later on. How many
shows have done that only to die without a proper ending?
A... historian? The guy that build gadgets and technology... is majored in history? Oh yeah... because those things have so much in common.
It's like writing a book and punishing it without beta readers or editors. It's so terrible
What?
I know right? I'm bi and I feel nothing but embarrassment when I think people might assume I enjoy being "represented" like that. Ugh.
That's what happens when people are so starved for representation, they'd jump at anything that could be seen as such.
This episide couldv've been written entirely different without changing the fact Bow has 2 dads, but they intentionally decided for making a parody of a coming out story. Har har har....so funny....

If you want to see a show that handles LGBT characters much better, I'd recommend The Loud House.
who's Rogelio? please don't say the lizard man.
Who said men with depression are funny?

I’m just trying to figure out how Bow has two dads?
Is he adopted?
And he has 12 other siblings?
Are they adopted, too?
I only ask these questions because the rest of this show is so damn lifeless.
"But then things are actually happening in the horde."
Sorry to break it to you but that's basically the whole 2nd season (and some of the first too).
For the most part the only really 'interesting' (whatever that means) plot lines have been the horde focused ones and they are usually the only ones really doing anything while the rebellion just faffs about.

Yeah, I mean once they brought it up you just can't unsee it.
For a show that claims to be so “progressive,” it certainly seems to like using outdated gay stereotypes.
Also, not only are Scorpia and Catra not on the same page, they’re reading two completely separate books.
>Thank Glimmer for bringing Bo out to his shell
>Bo has snubbed someone genuinely trying to reach out.
_Oof._
Could Bo's _gay_ parent's having to accept him for who he is in this, could this be interpreted as gay parents needed to accept their straight child?
Probably why bow didn't want to be a historian

That makes the following question all the more serious:
HOW were the 13 kids born to a GAY couple?
That's one of the things that irks me whenever I see cartoon gay couples with kids. They NEVER explain how they came into existence.

I mean so they have been trying to rack their brains around First One's tech and seem to go out of their way of not asking Light Hope and now we come to find out that Bow's Dads have a stock pile of First One's stuff and know a good bit about it and the ONLY reason we learn this is cause of the 90's Plot line going on, not so much as "Hey this might be a good place to find something!"
It's not bad, but if they just wanted to make a show with Modern day teen drama, why didn't they just make a show about that?
@@SuperCosmicMutantSquid Maybe I misheard then.
I know a lot of them wanted Shiro with either, and it split the fandom.
@@MaverickhunterXZero Just more reasons to show that shipping fucks up storytelling. The first priority a writer should focus on is making sure the story just makes sense, not what crack pairing Tumblr wants.

Was the Baby Pictures Joke ever funny?!?
Noelle and the gang HAD to do that... get the Clorox ready.
What a cheesy plot. I wish someone would spoof the secret identity trope.
I didn't notice this before but Bow's foot is NOT on the bed in that shot. 12:50
I wish they wrote gay characters like actual characters that aren’t defined by their sexual oriention.
this whole situation just makes me sad. there's a lot of lost potential in this show.
Haha conflict what's that?
bow's parents are like parodies of gays from the 90's. bow's parents are terrible parents. wouldnt they at least investigated the supposed school that bow supposedly was attending? but then again they (the "writers" in this show" use "parents are dumb as dirt" card. this finale and this show is beyond terrible. agreed the lightspinner episode should have been the "season finale"
Sorry . .
Maybe they are all adopted?
@@johannesseyfried7933 It's possible, but did the show mention that? Bow certainly looks and acts a lot like his dads, like he's their biological child. We don't see any of the others so they might be. But the story doesn't say anything about adoption. It just seems to imply that "sure you can have two biological dads - moms are unnecessary."
How do you lie this long about going to school do they now get their kids grade or something
Maybe he forges the report cards.
This wasn't even season 2. All they did take a regular 26 episode season, split into 3 parts, and called it "Season 1 2 & 3" . It's just a way for Netflix to milk it for as long as possible.
That's because there wouldn't have any other way to keep the series from going along
Allright I cheked to see the writters hystory and must of them seem to be facebook or twitter profiles with one having 2 books that aren't fantasy and one being an artist.
She never try to figure out where he came from until now
4:45 different pages???
They aren't even in the same library
Boy, this show sucks. The heroes aren't heroic, nor are the villains villainous: they all just seem like rival cliques in high school.
That's actually pretty damn accurate. Horde High School vs Brightmoon Academy should be more like it
The most threatening thing in the show so far is Hordak but how can he be taken seriously when he staffs his upper chain of command with petulant teenagers instead of proper adults that oversee his child army.
'they literally had it written on the door of their fortress.'
Moria gates ... 'Speak friend and enter'. Of course Tolkien made it make sense, having a character say it was from a peaceful time.
You know, I watched an episode of a LEGO show with this sort of concept, except it made much more sense and wasn’t the finale.
Worst "Finale" Ever. Indeed! You had me at 90s sitcom trope.
Is it the worst finale ever because Bow's abs were covered up for most of the episode?
What abs?
@@jeangentry6656 lol
Nope, six words; Gay parents that can't do shit.
It bad the villains seems to be the only people preparing and doing stuff
Are Bow's dads supposed to be his ACTUAL dads? As in they are his genetic parents? As well as the parents of 12 other boys? If that's what's happening here, has ANYONE who works behind the scenes of this show EVER been to school? Or learned anything about the circle of life at all?
