I just realized that Kyle is the Meg Griffin of this show. Both are constantly beaten down by everyone around them for no reason. They're both always miserable and don't really deserve their abuse. But with Kyle...it doesn't work. With a show all about friendship and happiness being shoved down your throat having a character like this is backwards has hell, gag or not. You just end up pitying him. He has no friends and he's clearly not happy. Stop this shit, it's just kinda depressing. His design even has sunken tired eyes to show what he's been through.
Meg evolved into a punchline because she was testing as the least liked character as well as her having no defining traits to play off of for gags when trying to write her- converting her into the butt of scorn based jokes was figuring out SOMETHING to do with her. In contrast, Kyle was conceptualized to be written and treated this way, and it's played completely straight compared to how hyperbolic it is in Family Guy toward Meg- Kyle is just meek and pathetic and therefore deserves to be picked on, is how they seem to view it. Considering how much the staff admit to projecting themselves for his show, I can only assume Kyle is an effigy for somebody one of them has a personal grudge against.

I thought some of the references were done in poor taste. Making fun of these other shows instead of a reverent homage. Kyle is being used as a slave and Lonnie has to act like some den mother. The episode was stupid with a few fun moments in-between. But overall a waste of time.
She-Ra wearing her 80s counterpart costume looks SO much than her current design. Also, why does Glimmer’s fantasy look like something from Gainax/Studio Trigger?
I honestly wished the Horde aimed their guns at the tent and blew up the characters while they blathered on. Scorpia and co knew they were hanging out over there in the corner, so what was stopping them from doing a pre-emptive strike? Bad guys fail at being bad guys. MLP did the Dungeons & Dragons angle a hell of a lot better, cause there wasn't a friggin' actual war happening in the background.
A HEM 1. Why are there only four people on the hoard's side? As mentioned both the princesses and the hoard have armies so where ARE they? 2. I love scorpia being a (the) strong fighter. But she's incompetent as a leader 9/10 3. The princesses have lost a lot. Entrapta, drill, battle after battle...it's perfectly reasonable for Adora to worry and ridiculous for the others to brush her off. But with that being said, 4. Are they ever going to do anything with this Adora arc of her being scared to screw up like past shera/ scared she'll never overcome the hoard. If it doesn't go anywhere it's more of a dot than an arc. 5. Swiftwind? 6. The whole "game" episode was contrived. This is a WAR show. Take it seriously. If you want to write a gimiky show where the characters play games and do silly things, get on a different script. Even Steven Universe knew when to chill on the comedy and that show is intended to be light hearted. I still think the best and most out of place episode of SheRa was the season 1 finale situation where the Hoard captured the runestone. Because it took threat SERIOUSLY. 7. *The most frustrating thing of this episode is that it highlights, underlines, emboldens, and freaking hammers in the most frustrating thing about this whole show.* Both the hoard and the princesses are completely incapable, lack intimidation, lack talent, skill, organization, or anything else you would need to successfully command an army, and are disjointed. They're equally bad, so it makes sense that they're at war, but their incompetence kind of makes it feel like a 12 year old from Earth with a stick and some duct tape could come to rule this whole planet in a week tops.
Agreed on all points. The Horde is also seriously underpowered as at least the princesses have magic. Also the title of the Horde implies strength in numbers so we should see many troops especially if they were tasked with guarding an strategically important pass
8. Do the artists of this show know what *color shading* is?! Maybe because i watched too much anime, i liked how they colored in the clothing wrinkles, hair ,light etc. I guess they can only do for the body is just put a bandage across their noses (like shiro from voltron) and call it a day. @@shawnboahene5231 I remember in the original She-ra, there were tons of Horde soldiers/robots all over the place, along with Hordak's high ranking subordinates: Shadow Weaver, Catra, Scorpia, Leech, Mantana, Grizzlor, Modulock, Entrapta, and I also recall a robot that looked like two robots joined together, though I can't remember the name of it. Point being, the Horde lived up to it's name in the original show.
Every time you mentioned Kyle, I wanted to cry. The entire show did him dirty, but this episode was particularly bad. I just want someone to love him and be his friend (but not Bow cause he's terrible).
For a show that's supposed to be about the power of friendship the way they treat Kyle is needlessly mean. He should just leave and do his own thing. This whole "conflict" isn't worth it. Weird how Bow was cool to Catra and Adora but not Kyle. :/

All of these closeups on the clothing really show how simple the drawings are, and the lack of clothing animation. I remember cartoons like Batman:TAS, which had a fairly minimalist "blocky" style, had much better animation for the clothing than this.

How does a rebellion only have like 12 people? If they wanted a small cast, they should've established the main characters as a specialized unit instead of the leaders of the rebellion

Sonic Underground had Sonic and his siblings as the leaders without showing everyone...but then again they also made it seem like everyone was in hiding and doing good in secret because of nobody having powers to be able to fight out in the open. ...nevermind you're right. This small main cast would've worked if they were either a special force or something. Since these creators obviously don't have the same dedication Attack on Titan had in making an entire military force [even if like 90% were just there to die]

Yeah, I honestly find the snide insults against the original designs stupid. The whole 'they were sexist' or whatever defenses that people put onto the need for these changes is honestly hollow especially with how it wouldn't be hard to either tweak them or just make them work like they do here. Heck, Adora looks much better in her old design. As for Kyle, I get what they are going for. The buttmonkey... The problem with that is both this is a show about friendship and togetherness and that Kyle has done nothing to earn that ire. It makes this show look sadistic in a way. Lastly Bow.... yeah, he's sexist. Why? He's willing to give Adora a chance and does not at all want to do anything bad to Catra. Yet Kyle he loves to pick on. Yeah, he's willing to turn the other cheek for a girl but never a guy. I guess he's one of those 'nice guys' then.
Because Bow is one of those guys who pretends to show his loyalty to a shit person (Glimmer) and uses that as to mean how much he 'respacts wahman'. He's a soyboy.
Have you noticed how Adora's eyebrows don't match her hair in this episode? EDIT: It also made me think about how you can have humor with your villains while still making them a threat (something this show seems to fail at). Just take Skeletor from the He-Man reboot. Sure his sense of humor was dark and twisted, but he also had the skills to back it up.
I think that Glimmer has a magic disability. That's why she's weaker than the other princesses. If that was true, it would explain why her mom was so overprotective and why Glimmer is so desperate to prove herself/lie when there's something off with her magic. Maybe she was born prematurely and didn't develop a full connection to her rune stone. Maybe it has something to do with her father. Maybe doing that spell with Shadow Weaver has side effects that were passed down from Glimmer's father to her.
From what I heard from Clownfish TV, apparently the creator is part of a DD fan group in real life so that was the inspiration. Also, I did not catch that Cutie Honey reference but I did a feeling of Cowboy Bebop. And I am still unclear if the characters in Classic She-Ra outfits was a homage or a joke. Still, I enjoyed the way the characters looked. OMG! When you said that tidbit about the Trident of Power, I bust out laughing because it's true. And again, how are we supposed to take this Rebellion and Horde seriously if they portray them as such a joke?! And Kyle deserves better.

And we're told repeatedly through the series that we're not supposed to respect Bow's ideas. 2.) Noelle Stevenson played her first campaign right before she started working on She-Ra, and somehow felt like that was enough experience to make references. Also, Glimmer basically _is_ her D&D character!

I don't understand the whole "The original bad because it has actual females in it, the clothing is too revealing" blah blah blah. Freakin' Glimmer, who is designed to be a "bigger" girl, looks like a freaking cheese puff.
They're referencing the original as if everyone in that series was a teenager (16/17) but they were actually in their 20's or older. Because, in the 80's, heroes were mostly fully grown adults
Because when women are thin, yet curvy, or, for lack of a better word, "beautiful", they are perpetuating this damaging, nigh-impossible standard of beauty that is, of course, predicated on "the male gaze" and more concerned with what men think is attractivr rather than what your average female ACTUALLY looks like. They want girls to know they can be beautiful despite not being statuesque and model-like. To be inspirational rather than aspirational. Instead of having girls say "i want to be like her" make them say "She's like me!" Also, they want to put forth the idea to little boys that girls exist to be more than the beautiful counterparts to men. And, so, the typicsl idea of beautoful women (i. E. The original show) is seen as bad, despite the 80's character designs being mostly created by a committee of mostly women.
The orginal She-Ra was put in there to be made fun of and mocked at. Nothing about inappropriate clothes, and whatnot the show creators did this on purpose.
The worst part of the Kyle abuse is that they will probably use the fan reaction as an excuse to write him into being a creep, or some opprotunistic bad guy whose ultimate fate is to be the final punching bag/joke of the series.
Angela Lee they had it in to mock it. These episodes are made way before they air meaning this was at least completed the writing fase when the first season was released. They probably just said it was a homage in hopes it will lessen the blowback they received in season one.
They called it homage due to a lack of human communication understanding. They confused mocking for homage. They even gave them large breasts in that scene as an apparent attack on the fans that hated on this idiotic show. Honestly, this whole episode seemed to be just one big middle finger to geek/nerd culture in general on the producers' part. All the usual suspects are here... Tabletop gamers! Self-inserted characters! Personal head-canons! Weeaboos! Yuri/yaoi shippers! And especially those filthy basement dwellers mad as hell that they can't perv over OUR new and improved She-Ra! Let's all point and laugh at these regressive degenerates, target audience!
In the finale Kyle gets so damaged in battle by She-Ra and the Sparkle Huggy Crew that he gets rebuilt into a cyborg stronger than the rest of the cast. Then he goes on a murderous rampage as he slays all of Etheria, including his fellow "friends" and Hordak himself. Once that is done, he crowns himself as the new Hordak and continues his legacy and the cycle starts again.
Fillers can either make or break a series that revolves around a plot. The purpose of fillers is so that supporting characters can get some developments and for there to be some more exposition on the world around them without taking too much from the plot. It's also one of the very few episodes where the main characters doesn't show up too often. If it does focus on the main character, the episode usually is focused around the main character's personal dilemma that they must solve on their own that eventually contributes to personal growth and development. In the case of anime(as Gintama explains it.), the purpose of fillers is so the manga can catch up with the anime in case it gets behind. Steven Universe kind of abused the fillers because not only did it take too much away from the plot, it also put Steven in every single filler episode even though it's supposed to be about the supporting characters they focused on. They also forgot about the development of said supporting characters the next episode so it's like as if certain things never happened. Unfortunately, this filler doesn't seem to give anyone some type of impactful character development. They could've focused this filler on Scorpia and give us a bit of her history or perspective, not too much but just a little. And as for references, references can be good if they are not abused the heck out of. In fact abusing references turns it a bit comedic like Gintama and that was filled with references. Sometimes it makes it harder for people to take the show seriously if serious was what they're going for in a show. Even in original works, the references are kept to a minimum to avoid this. I get it, anime is popular but It also doesn't hurt to make references to other things in western media. I always see shows reference anime which is fine, but if that's all you ever reference then it may come off as weebish. Heck, Attack on Titan named a minor character Samuel Linke Jackson as a reference to Samuel L. Jackson and that was very minor because he never appears again and this couldve flown over anyone's head. This is just cringy now...but this is only my opinion. Thanks for criticing this you guys, I thought I was the only one who thought the show is a bit poorly done. My professor at my art school thinks work like this is acceptable...
Wow, this episode was just a waste of time. This was basically 'Watch us reference our favorite anime' the episode. A lot of people thought that the characters were going to be put into a scenario where they were sucked into a magical world to become these characters but as it turns out it was even less fulfilling than that; they're just imagining all this stuff. Calling back to a better episode from a better show, the episode of Avatar where Aang was having issues about his final fight with the Fire Lord was better paced because the entire plot was focused on him taking things out of context and WHY it was making him ill prepared for the situation at hand, as well as learning (and in essence teaching the audience) the importance of not freaking yourself the fuck out before you do something big or to even over exaggerate your problems before you face them. That had a ton of other anime references and some funny moments from the cast but what made it excusable was how it was a slower paced episode in-between many that were very action packed, as well as how this was the lead in to the end of the series as a whole. As is, this episode is just another moment of filler for a series that is built on the worst kind of filler. And I don't think we have to go into how hypocritical the show runners are for making a big deal about the OG costumes of She-Ra when they're even going to reference a show like Cutie Honey, a series that DEFINITELY wasn't kid-friendly (but ironically, even though Honey did have a boob window, she was dressed a little more than She-Ra BUT at the same time she lost her clothes a lot more than She-Ra XD) The OG show had an episode that made something as innocent as PAINTINGS creepy because the spell cast on them made whoever was drawn turn into a painting in Hordak's lair. There were no cursed objects in this and all they did was talk. How the fuck can anyone say that this show does 'MORE' than the original. They've done less and less since the entire show began. Holy and shit.

One thing that really bugged me was how this episode treated Kyle, and by extension, their LGBT male characters. It was confirmed that Kyle was attracted to the lizard guy, and he's the one member of the horde who's treated like something you'd scrape off the bottom of your shoe, while Bow's dads are treated I find in a really stereotypical way, to living in a pink, jewel house. This, along with some things the showrunner has said on twitter make wonder some things about her and this show. But then again, I'd say it's LGBT female characters are treated pretty poorly here too.
The fact that this show gets praise for LGBT representation when it doesn't even do the bare minimum is what pisses me off. This show is exactly what other shows been accused of :queer bait. I honestly hate that term because it's so stupid but it's true

Nothing worse than a filler episode in a series that can barely be called a season, but Kyle seriously needs a break. If they want to subvert out expectations, have it to wear Kyle just breaks, find a new power and becomes...SKELETOR. That would be an interesting story arc.
I think he becoming Skelletor would be very weird, even for the standards of this series. I would prefer if Hordak make some experiments with him, increasing his physical force, but weakening his free will. Kyle could wear a special combat helmet who turns him into Mosquitor and, posteriorly, when he join the heroes, they change his helmet and Kyke becomes Snout Spout.

Where do I begin, first just a waste of time, I go back to "season 1" Catra knowing Adora is She-Ra. So Adora is constantly worried, she's let Catra basically play her. I don't see why Scorpia in this show is a force captain when Lonnie is actually doing all of what a force captain should be doing. The lizard guy is waste of a strong character, you have in the original Grizzlor, Scorpia, Octavia. The Rebels are completely clueless upon making plans or as suggested that they run simulation with "Light Hope". In the attack on the base, they just do their own ideas. In the original they planned, sometimes the characters had to adapt to surprise changes with the Horde. It's hilarious they could have used Spinnerlla as well for a main attack or distraction. Noel can't write a decent story. Lastly the fan service was underwhelming, just a cheap nostalgia grab which what they said didn't work. I'm thinking no Noel it doesn't because of disdainful hate to the original source. What you have is Princesses of Power Club with the name of She-Ra loosely draped upon it.
The big problem in that regard is that Stevenson has no attachment to She-Ra, by her own admission. She played with hand-me-down toys and that's it. Glimmer is the actual protagonist- everything revolves around her while She-Ra is the B-plot every time. Why? Because this version of Glimmer is Stevenson, she's based on her D&D character. That's the core problem right there, what should be a supporting role is driving everything; this is the same reason why Giorno is widely regarded as the worst JoJo, he's supposed to be the lead role but is actually a tag-along to the story that's really being driven by Bucciarati.

It was definitely Cutie Honey, the side by sides make it very clear. And that is just marvelously hypocritical of them to complain that the OG She-Ra was too underdressed and existed for sex appeal to men (in complete disregard to the women that designed her and mindset that went into it but that's neither here nor there) and then reimagine their own characters in the image of Go Nagai, the man who literally pioneered raunchy fanservice and similar such erotica in manga.
The people making Nu She-Ra keep saying the Old She-ra showed too much skin, but if you look at He-Man, he's showing way more skin than She-Ra. I smell either a) fake fans or b) hypocrisy.
I did enjoy the reference to the original She-Ra and would've liked to see it being a D&D episode with just that. I was annoyed at how they didn't take the situation seriously like Adora did and only decided to after she snapped. Seriously, what is up with Kyle's abuse? That just isn't right!! Currently I am writing a fan idea where Kyle is a hero, he deserves better.
I remember this episode blowing up on Twitter. The only thing they got out of it was 2018 She-Ra fans looked kinda uncomfortable that the 1980's designs looked better on the new characthers. Kinda like the original She-ra was onto something when it came to designing girls and guys.
The problem with this season is that the horde no longer feel threatening (if they ever where) all of the horde members (that's like four people) have been shown to be incompetent and easily defeated except four shadowweaver, entrapta, Catra, and Hordac but they barley face off against the heroes in this season And no one seems to take fighting the horde very seriously so why should we be threated by them? and why haven't they already been defeated are the heroes really that bad at fighting a war? This episode answers that for me
It would be cool if Kyle gets tired of being treated like shit, so he leaves the horde during a mission and everyone assumes he's dead, but he's actually building his own thing, eventually becoming a threat both to the rebellion and the horde.

Why cant people write character abuse in a comedic way these days. It just comes of as sad and cruel. character abuse in looney tunes was funny because the characters never sufered because of it. But this is alot more plot driven series, and there are still ways to make that right. For example TMNT2012- Mikey as a comic relief character takes alot of it, butnot by every character that exists in these series. Its mostly by Raph ,one of, his brothers and realy its more of their dynamic than abuse and when it crosses the big fat line Mikey does something to move the plot forward he doesnt just stand there and take it (while were on that subject can you react to rise of the tmnt, the show is realy overrated in my opinion, its treated as if it has blessed the franchise with some holly water while being mediocre at its best). Also have in mind that Mike is a main character and because he is treated this way it efects he story while for Kyle it ads nothing sence weve got it the first time when BOW JUST STRAIGHT UP LEFT HIM TO ROT THERE no need to rub it our faces. I feel the same way about the Bow and Kyle situation. I don't quite understand what the show writers intentions are with this very flawed dynamic. It just makes me intensely frustrated with Bows character, and how it seems to contradict his personality. I can't understand what the plan for this bad character writing is. If they are trying to set up a narrative where Kyle gets fed up and tries to kill Bow for how he's been treated I feel like that will really fall short because so far Kyle has been written as a genuine character. He actually cares for others, and it really shows when he sees how much Adora cared so much for her friends, he wanted a chance to have that too. He is a character that has been used and abused and it hurts to see that portrayed like a joke. I want to like Bow. I genuinely like his design and his personality, except when it comes to Kyle. It doesn't make sense. It is also hard to gauge when they are breaking up the seasons into halves though. If there is supposed to be resolution it needs to happen in the second half of this season, especially with the way Kyle is starting to look. In reality exhaustion like that is pretty taxing and I can't imagine he's going to last long without some incident. I really just hope they don't try to justify Bow's actions. I feel like the creators are trying to set the shows fans up to hate Kyle for some reason, and all it really does is make me feel like they are justifying a bullying mentality. Leaves a sour taste. But I hope they prove me wrong.
Terrible episode that made me laugh the problem is they focus more anime references and teen melodrama at high school instead of good storytelling at this rate you might as well forget about being at war with the horde and have the princesses focus on each other being friends
I love this show a lot. However, I do respect the people who don’t, and I do realize that it has many flaws. I didn’t like this episode, particularly because I couldn’t watch half of it because it was so cringey. I also wish to know why Glimmer struggles with using too much magic while the other princesses don’t, especially since Frosta if any of them should be the one struggling, if their magic works the way I think it does (increasing in power with age and training). I actually do have a theory for why Glimmer struggles and the others don’t.
I think i can answer the Question as to why they put those references in, even though they dont like the old Show: It seems like they want to mock it and show how much better THEIR Version. Which doesnt make Stevenson and her Crew very sympathetic. You have to respect the Material that you are adapting or rebooting. Look how much the People love the new Ducktales. But, their Plan failed spectacularly, because as far as I know...everybody loved it! They all talked about how good She-Ra looks in her old Costume! The Idea to turn this Episode into a D&D Game could have worked, but not in this Context. You Guys are trying to storm a Castle, so take it seriously. (Also, it would have been pretty fun to see Mermista in a Fur Bikini.😊) Another big problem that this Episode shows us is, not only how empty the World is but how inconsistent. They have been at War for Decades, but we never feel the Presence of the Horde, or even that they are a big Threat. The Fire Nation was sometimes the butt of a joke, but most of the Time the were taken seriously. There was a Sense of Dread when the Tanks attacked the Air Temple (It was one of my first and favorite Episodes of the whole Show), and even after they were beaten, you were left with the slightest bit of fear, because they got their hand on the functioning remains of a War Balloon. Did we feel any kind of Dread when the Horde attacked Brightmoon? I honestly doubt it.
I could imagine them being complete hypocrites and referencing an anime full of fan-service. They neither liked nor watched the original, which is why this series feels so jarring. Also, not surprised in the slightest that Glimmer is a narcissist. And here we see again the fact that if it were't for plot stupidity; Glimmer and the gang would have been blown to smithereens by their incompetence at putting the tent in an area easily visible by the enemy. Also: Glimmer is the _only_ one that gets tired and runs out of magic, while the others can summon a plant golem... This show rights the jokes. They can't get mad at people for making them.
Haven't seen the video yet but I have to point out, THE THUMBNAIL FIXES A LOT OF MY ISSUES WITH THE SERIES DESIGN! Why couldn't they do that in the first place? It looks a thousand times better!! Still not perfect, like Glimmers short Bob hair is still awful to me, but everything else looks alot more decent!
For a show that supposed to be all about diversity and inclusion, you'd think they'd have a more 'anti-bullying' approach. But, the way Kyle is treated completely contradicts that! Perhaps it's feminist logic...
I'm fairly certain Kyle is just an effigy for someone one of them has a personal grudge against, they've admitted to projecting themselves into the work already, so I would not put it past them to go that far and in such a petty way.

You know, if they wanted to make a comedy, they should’ve made a cartoon similar to Looney Tunes, or Kids Next Door that parodies situations. That way the comedic point of views from the heroes and the complete joke the villains are would’ve made sense. They seriously hyped up the villains a bit at the start of the episode and then cut to them (or Scorpia I should say) being incompetent with shipping material. Just no! And I know people are concerned with Kyle, I’m not just out of disinterest, but Scorpia. It makes sense she’s there because she’s force captain, but why is she force captain in the first place? It’s bad enough that she’s obviously pretty slow, but then she’s a princess, it’s the question you two brought up back at the princess prom. And why exactly was planning an attack so necessary? They were able to raid a base with one princess and sneak into a horde base with little effort before. This episode waisted our time on so many levels. And as a side note, I think the aesthetic of Glimmer’s point of view was like a monochromatic Gurren Lagen, with her personal design being that of Ghost in the Shell (which she can just keep dreaming about).
This comparation was made before, but I belive they want to be like Avatar, that had 'serious moments' and 'zany moments'. Then, If I want that, I prefer Avatar. :-P

I'm assuming from the scene, Adora is the north direction and the river runs from North East to South West. If M and Jay wants to make this a special episode. Feel free. I'll start. Faction: nighthaunt (age of sigmar); strengths: ethereal, rapid redeploy, and hard to kill; weakness: no long long range support and limited spell casters. Plan: mass the procession (name of the army) outside of visual range of horde scouts. Deploy spirit hosts as scouts. Lady olynder mortarch of grief and kurdoss valentian the craven king to lead. Attack the fortress as princess alliance attacks fortress. Main battle lines engaging head on. Hexwraith calvary on flanks to reenforce or give chase. Kurdoss valentian will counter any magic used by princesses while lady olynder redeploy the battle line where needed. Annihilation for all horde and princess forces. Repurpose fortress as a necropolis and invade etheria.
Life, checkers, chess, sorry, Risk. I mean D&D might be fantasy, but it's becoming over used in these shows. Also, they're already in a fantasy world. The reference doesn't make sense.

I just realized that Kyle is the Meg Griffin of this show. Both are constantly beaten down by everyone around them for no reason. They're both always miserable and don't really deserve their abuse.
But with Kyle...it doesn't work. With a show all about friendship and happiness being shoved down your throat having a character like this is backwards has hell, gag or not. You just end up pitying him. He has no friends and he's clearly not happy. Stop this shit, it's just kinda depressing. His design even has sunken tired eyes to show what he's been through.
Meg evolved into a punchline because she was testing as the least liked character as well as her having no defining traits to play off of for gags when trying to write her- converting her into the butt of scorn based jokes was figuring out SOMETHING to do with her. In contrast, Kyle was conceptualized to be written and treated this way, and it's played completely straight compared to how hyperbolic it is in Family Guy toward Meg- Kyle is just meek and pathetic and therefore deserves to be picked on, is how they seem to view it. Considering how much the staff admit to projecting themselves for his show, I can only assume Kyle is an effigy for somebody one of them has a personal grudge against.

3. The princesses have lost a lot. Entrapta, drill, battle after battle...it's perfectly reasonable for Adora to worry and ridiculous for the others to brush her off. But with that being said,
4. Are they ever going to do anything with this Adora arc of her being scared to screw up like past shera/ scared she'll never overcome the hoard. If it doesn't go anywhere it's more of a dot than an arc.

6. The whole "game" episode was contrived. This is a WAR show. Take it seriously. If you want to write a gimiky show where the characters play games and do silly things, get on a different script. Even Steven Universe knew when to chill on the comedy and that show is intended to be light hearted. I still think the best and most out of place episode of SheRa was the season 1 finale situation where the Hoard captured the runestone. Because it took threat SERIOUSLY.
7. *The most frustrating thing of this episode is that it highlights, underlines, emboldens, and freaking hammers in the most frustrating thing about this whole show.* Both the hoard and the princesses are completely incapable, lack intimidation, lack talent, skill, organization, or anything else you would need to successfully command an army, and are disjointed. They're equally bad, so it makes sense that they're at war, but their incompetence kind of makes it feel like a 12 year old from Earth with a stick and some duct tape could come to rule this whole planet in a week tops.
Agreed on all points. The Horde is also seriously underpowered as at least the princesses have magic. Also the title of the Horde implies strength in numbers so we should see many troops especially if they were tasked with guarding an strategically important pass

Point being, the Horde lived up to it's name in the original show.

All of these closeups on the clothing really show how simple the drawings are, and the lack of clothing animation. I remember cartoons like Batman:TAS, which had a fairly minimalist "blocky" style, had much better animation for the clothing than this.

Yeah, I honestly find the snide insults against the original designs stupid. The whole 'they were sexist' or whatever defenses that people put onto the need for these changes is honestly hollow especially with how it wouldn't be hard to either tweak them or just make them work like they do here. Heck, Adora looks much better in her old design.
As for Kyle, I get what they are going for. The buttmonkey... The problem with that is both this is a show about friendship and togetherness and that Kyle has done nothing to earn that ire. It makes this show look sadistic in a way.
Lastly Bow.... yeah, he's sexist. Why? He's willing to give Adora a chance and does not at all want to do anything bad to Catra. Yet Kyle he loves to pick on. Yeah, he's willing to turn the other cheek for a girl but never a guy. I guess he's one of those 'nice guys' then.
Because Bow is one of those guys who pretends to show his loyalty to a shit person (Glimmer) and uses that as to mean how much he 'respacts wahman'. He's a soyboy.

EDIT: It also made me think about how you can have humor with your villains while still making them a threat (something this show seems to fail at). Just take Skeletor from the He-Man reboot. Sure his sense of humor was dark and twisted, but he also had the skills to back it up.

I think that Glimmer has a magic disability. That's why she's weaker than the other princesses. If that was true, it would explain why her mom was so overprotective and why Glimmer is so desperate to prove herself/lie when there's something off with her magic. Maybe she was born prematurely and didn't develop a full connection to her rune stone. Maybe it has something to do with her father. Maybe doing that spell with Shadow Weaver has side effects that were passed down from Glimmer's father to her.

From what I heard from Clownfish TV, apparently the creator is part of a DD fan group in real life so that was the inspiration.

Females aren't bad, different body types aren't bad, being attractive isn't *bad* . These are all teenage/young adult women (except Frosta) and *none* of them have breasts. But Catra does? Freakin' Glimmer, who is designed to be a "bigger" girl, looks like a freaking cheese puff.
They're referencing the original as if everyone in that series was a teenager (16/17) but they were actually in their 20's or older. Because, in the 80's, heroes were mostly fully grown adults

Because when women are thin, yet curvy, or, for lack of a better word, "beautiful", they are perpetuating this damaging, nigh-impossible standard of beauty that is, of course, predicated on "the male gaze" and more concerned with what men think is attractivr rather than what your average female ACTUALLY looks like. They want girls to know they can be beautiful despite not being statuesque and model-like. To be inspirational rather than aspirational. Instead of having girls say "i want to be like her" make them say "She's like me!"
Also, they want to put forth the idea to little boys that girls exist to be more than the beautiful counterparts to men.
And, so, the typicsl idea of beautoful women (i. E. The original show) is seen as bad, despite the 80's character designs being mostly created by a committee of mostly women.
The orginal She-Ra was put in there to be made fun of and mocked at. Nothing about inappropriate clothes, and whatnot the show creators did this on purpose.
The worst part of the Kyle abuse is that they will probably use the fan reaction as an excuse to write him into being a creep, or some opprotunistic bad guy whose ultimate fate is to be the final punching bag/joke of the series.

Angela Lee they had it in to mock it. These episodes are made way before they air meaning this was at least completed the writing fase when the first season was released. They probably just said it was a homage in hopes it will lessen the blowback they received in season one.
They called it homage due to a lack of human communication understanding. They confused mocking for homage. They even gave them large breasts in that scene as an apparent attack on the fans that hated on this idiotic show. Honestly, this whole episode seemed to be just one big middle finger to geek/nerd culture in general on the producers' part. All the usual suspects are here... Tabletop gamers! Self-inserted characters! Personal head-canons! Weeaboos! Yuri/yaoi shippers! And especially those filthy basement dwellers mad as hell that they can't perv over OUR new and improved She-Ra! In the finale Kyle gets so damaged in battle by She-Ra and the Sparkle Huggy Crew that he gets rebuilt into a cyborg stronger than the rest of the cast. Then he goes on a murderous rampage as he slays all of Etheria, including his fellow "friends" and Hordak himself. Once that is done, he crowns himself as the new Hordak and continues his legacy and the cycle starts again.

So just because a game with dice says their going to fail, obviously their going to? Plotholes every where.
Fillers can either make or break a series that revolves around a plot. The purpose of fillers is so that supporting characters can get some developments and for there to be some more exposition on the world around them without taking too much from the plot. It's also one of the very few episodes where the main characters doesn't show up too often. If it does focus on the main character, the episode usually is focused around the main character's personal dilemma that they must solve on their own that eventually contributes to personal growth and development. In the case of anime(as Gintama explains it.), the purpose of fillers is so the manga can catch up with the anime in case it gets behind. Steven Universe kind of abused the fillers because not only did it take too much away from the plot, it also put Steven in every single filler episode even though it's supposed to be about the supporting characters they focused on. They also forgot about the development of said supporting characters the next episode so it's like as if certain things never happened. Unfortunately, this filler doesn't seem to give anyone some type of impactful character development. They could've focused this filler on Scorpia and give us a bit of her history or perspective, not too much but just a little.
And as for references, references can be good if they are not abused the heck out of. In fact abusing references turns it a bit comedic like Gintama and that was filled with references. Sometimes it makes it harder for people to take the show seriously if serious was what they're going for in a show. Even in original works, the references are kept to a minimum to avoid this. I get it, anime is popular but It also doesn't hurt to make references to other things in western media. I always see shows reference anime which is fine, but if that's all you ever reference then it may come off as weebish. Heck, Attack on Titan named a minor character Samuel Linke Jackson as a reference to Samuel L. Jackson and that was very minor because he never appears again and this couldve flown over anyone's head. This is just cringy now...but this is only my opinion.

Wow, this episode was just a waste of time. This was basically 'Watch us reference our favorite anime' the episode. A lot of people thought that the characters were going to be put into a scenario where they were sucked into a magical world to become these characters but as it turns out it was even less fulfilling than that; they're just imagining all this stuff.
Calling back to a better episode from a better show, the episode of Avatar where Aang was having issues about his final fight with the Fire Lord was better paced because the entire plot was focused on him taking things out of context and WHY it was making him ill prepared for the situation at hand, as well as learning (and in essence teaching the audience) the importance of not freaking yourself the fuck out before you do something big or to even over exaggerate your problems before you face them. That had a ton of other anime references and some funny moments from the cast but what made it excusable was how it was a slower paced episode in-between many that were very action packed, as well as how this was the lead in to the end of the series as a whole.
As is, this episode is just another moment of filler for a series that is built on the worst kind of filler. And I don't think we have to go into how hypocritical the show runners are for making a big deal about the OG costumes of She-Ra when they're even going to reference a show like Cutie Honey, a series that DEFINITELY wasn't kid-friendly (but ironically, even though Honey did have a boob window, she was dressed a little more than She-Ra BUT at the same time she lost her clothes a lot more than She-Ra XD)
The OG show had an episode that made something as innocent as PAINTINGS creepy because the spell cast on them made whoever was drawn turn into a painting in Hordak's lair. There were no cursed objects in this and all they did was talk.
How the fuck can anyone say that this show does 'MORE' than the original. They've done less and less since the entire show began. Holy and shit.

One thing that really bugged me was how this episode treated Kyle, and by extension, their LGBT male characters. It was confirmed that Kyle was attracted to the lizard guy, and he's the one member of the horde who's treated like something you'd scrape off the bottom of your shoe, while Bow's dads are treated I find in a really stereotypical way, to living in a pink, jewel house. This, along with some things the showrunner has said on twitter make wonder some things about her and this show. But then again, I'd say it's LGBT female characters are treated pretty poorly here too.
The fact that this show gets praise for LGBT representation when it doesn't even do the bare minimum is what pisses me off. This show is exactly what other shows been accused of :queer bait. I honestly hate that term because it's so stupid but it's true

I find this episode to be rather meta; it reminds me of writers brainstorming what the plot of an episode should be.
Where do I begin, first just a waste of time, I go back to "season 1" Catra knowing Adora is She-Ra. So Adora is constantly worried, she's let Catra basically play her. I don't see why Scorpia in this show is a force captain when Lonnie is actually doing all of what a force captain should be doing. The lizard guy is waste of a strong character, you have in the original Grizzlor, Scorpia, Octavia. The Rebels are completely clueless upon making plans or as suggested that they run simulation with "Light Hope". In the attack on the base, they just do their own ideas. In the original they planned, sometimes the characters had to adapt to surprise changes with the Horde. It's hilarious they could have used Spinnerlla as well for a main attack or distraction. Noel can't write a decent story. Lastly the fan service was underwhelming, just a cheap nostalgia grab which what they said didn't work. I'm thinking no Noel it doesn't because of disdainful hate to the original source. What you have is Princesses of Power Club with the name of She-Ra loosely draped upon it.
The big problem in that regard is that Stevenson has no attachment to She-Ra, by her own admission. She played with hand-me-down toys and that's it. Glimmer is the actual protagonist- everything revolves around her while She-Ra is the B-plot every time. Why? Because this version of Glimmer is Stevenson, she's based on her D&D character. That's the core problem right there, what should be a supporting role is driving everything; this is the same reason why Giorno is widely regarded as the worst JoJo, he's supposed to be the lead role but is actually a tag-along to the story that's really being driven by Bucciarati.

The problem with this season is that the horde no longer feel threatening (if they ever where) all of the horde members (that's like four people) have been shown to be incompetent and easily defeated except four shadowweaver, entrapta, Catra, and Hordac but they barley face off against the heroes in this season
And no one seems to take fighting the horde very seriously so why should we be threated by them? and why haven't they already been defeated are the heroes really that bad at fighting a war?

Why cant people write character abuse in a comedic way these days. It just comes of as sad and cruel. character abuse in looney tunes was funny because the characters never sufered because of it. But this is alot more plot driven series, and there are still ways to make that right. For example TMNT2012- Mikey as a comic relief character takes alot of it, butnot by every character that exists in these series. Its mostly by Raph ,one of, his brothers and realy its more of their dynamic than abuse and when it crosses the big fat line Mikey does something to move the plot forward he doesnt just stand there and take it (while were on that subject can you react to rise of the tmnt, the show is realy overrated in my opinion, its treated as if it has blessed the franchise with some holly water while being mediocre at its best). Also have in mind that Mike is a main character and because he is treated this way it efects he story while for Kyle it ads nothing sence weve got it the first time when BOW JUST STRAIGHT UP LEFT HIM TO ROT THERE no need to rub it our faces. Anyway for tmnt its "Get it because they are brothers" and in shera its more like "GET IT BECAUSE KYLE IS A WORTHLESS PEACE OF TRASH WHO DOESNT DESERVE ANY FRIENDS,FAMILY,PEOPLE WHO LOVE HIM... My opinion is thus: Give the rights to She-Ra (and He-Man) to a group of creatives who are actually... creative.
I feel the same way about the Bow and Kyle situation. I don't quite understand what the show writers intentions are with this very flawed dynamic. It just makes me intensely frustrated with Bows character, and how it seems to contradict his personality. I can't understand what the plan for this bad character writing is. If they are trying to set up a narrative where Kyle gets fed up and tries to kill Bow for how he's been treated I feel like that will really fall short because so far Kyle has been written as a genuine character. He actually cares for others, and it really shows when he sees how much Adora cared so much for her friends, he wanted a chance to have that too. He is a character that has been used and abused and it hurts to see that portrayed like a joke. I want to like Bow. I genuinely like his design and his personality, except when it comes to Kyle. It doesn't make sense. It is also hard to gauge when they are breaking up the seasons into halves though. If there is supposed to be resolution it needs to happen in the second half of this season, especially with the way Kyle is starting to look. In reality exhaustion like that is pretty taxing and I can't imagine he's going to last long without some incident. I really just hope they don't try to justify Bow's actions. I feel like the creators are trying to set the shows fans up to hate Kyle for some reason, and all it really does is make me feel like they are justifying a bullying mentality. Leaves a sour taste. But I hope they prove me wrong.
Terrible episode that made me laugh the problem is they focus more anime references and teen melodrama at high school instead of good storytelling at this rate you might as well forget about being at war with the horde and have the princesses focus on each other being friends
I love this show a lot. However, I do respect the people who don’t, and I do realize that it has many flaws. I didn’t like this episode, particularly because I couldn’t watch half of it because it was so cringey.
I also wish to know why Glimmer struggles with using too much magic while the other princesses don’t, especially since Frosta if any of them should be the one struggling, if their magic works the way I think it does (increasing in power with age and training). I actually do have a theory for why Glimmer struggles and the others don’t.
I think i can answer the Question as to why they put those references in, even though they dont like the old Show:
It seems like they want to mock it and show how much better THEIR Version. Which doesnt make Stevenson and her Crew very sympathetic. You have to respect the Material that you are adapting or rebooting. Look how much the People love the new Ducktales.
But, their Plan failed spectacularly, because as far as I know...everybody loved it! They all talked about how good She-Ra looks in her old Costume!
The Idea to turn this Episode into a D&D Game could have worked, but not in this Context. You Guys are trying to storm a Castle, so take it seriously. (Also, it would have been pretty fun to see Mermista in a Fur Bikini.😊)
Another big problem that this Episode shows us is, not only how empty the World is but how inconsistent. They have been at War for Decades, but we never feel the Presence of the Horde, or even that they are a big Threat. The Fire Nation was sometimes the butt of a joke, but most of the Time the were taken seriously.
There was a Sense of Dread when the Tanks attacked the Air Temple (It was one of my first and favorite Episodes of the whole Show), and even after they were beaten, you were left with the slightest bit of fear, because they got their hand on the functioning remains of a War Balloon.
Did we feel any kind of Dread when the Horde attacked Brightmoon? I honestly doubt it.
I could imagine them being complete hypocrites and referencing an anime full of fan-service. They neither liked nor watched the original, which is why this series feels so jarring. Also, not surprised in the slightest that Glimmer is a narcissist.
And here we see again the fact that if it were't for plot stupidity; Glimmer and the gang would have been blown to smithereens by their incompetence at putting the tent in an area easily visible by the enemy.
Also: Glimmer is the _only_ one that gets tired and runs out of magic, while the others can summon a plant golem... This show rights the jokes. They can't get mad at people for making them.
Let's be honest here; if Glimmer got blown to smithereens, would any of us feel bad for it?

Haven't seen the video yet but I have to point out, THE THUMBNAIL FIXES A LOT OF MY ISSUES WITH THE SERIES DESIGN! Why couldn't they do that in the first place? It looks a thousand times better!! You know, if they wanted to make a comedy, they should’ve made a cartoon similar to Looney Tunes, or Kids Next Door that parodies situations. That way the comedic point of views from the heroes and the complete joke the villains are would’ve made sense. They seriously hyped up the villains a bit at the start of the episode and then cut to them (or Scorpia I should say) being incompetent with shipping material. Just no!
And I know people are concerned with Kyle, I’m not just out of disinterest, but Scorpia. It makes sense she’s there because she’s force captain, but why is she force captain in the first place? It’s bad enough that she’s obviously pretty slow, but then she’s a princess, it’s the question you two brought up back at the princess prom.
And why exactly was planning an attack so necessary? They were able to raid a base with one princess and sneak into a horde base with little effort before. This episode waisted our time on so many levels.
And as a side note, I think the aesthetic of Glimmer’s point of view was like a monochromatic Gurren Lagen, with her personal design being that of Ghost in the Shell (which she can just keep dreaming about).
This comparation was made before, but I belive they want to be like Avatar, that had 'serious moments' and 'zany moments'. Then, If I want that, I prefer Avatar. :-P

Avatar actually did that well. They knew where to put the silliness, and the more serious moments. It didn't feel as if they weren't taking their fights seriously, and there was never any tone whiplash either.
This show on the other hand didn't do any of that and also managed to crap on the original.

The part where Glimmer laughs in her attempt at “acting” like Catra, I 100% believe that was a Steven Universe reference. If you’ve seen how Sardonyx laughs when she first meets Steven, they sound very similar. Just thought I’d add.

Pick a faction, lost two strengths and weaknesses minimum. I'm assuming from the scene, Adora is the north direction and the river runs from North East to South West. If M and Jay wants to make this a special episode. Feel free.
I'll start.
Faction: nighthaunt (age of sigmar); strengths: ethereal, rapid redeploy, and hard to kill; weakness: no long long range support and limited spell casters.
Plan: mass the procession (name of the army) outside of visual range of horde scouts. Deploy spirit hosts as scouts. Lady olynder mortarch of grief and kurdoss valentian the craven king to lead. Attack the fortress as princess alliance attacks fortress. Main battle lines engaging head on. Hexwraith calvary on flanks to reenforce or give chase. Kurdoss valentian will counter any magic used by princesses while lady olynder redeploy the battle line where needed. Annihilation for all horde and princess forces.
Repurpose fortress as a necropolis and invade etheria.
What kid plays dungeons and dragons anyway. You would think they would pick a more reliatable game.

The only gay couple im rooting for is Rogelio and Kyle and that’s bc they don’t rub it in your face it’s just kinda in the background some times
God why dobthey keep treating Kyle like this I feel like the main bad guy is gonna be a bait and switch and Kyle is gonna be the true villain in the end.
No Glimmer was indeed taking the piss on Cutie Honey. Pathetic since anything Master Go Nagai made is far better than any of this crap. Give me the adventures of Honey Kisaragi and Kouji Kabuto over the "adventures" Nu-Ra gets into anyday of the week.

The Cutie Honey bit is super hypocritical since they complained about OG She-Ra designs being too underdressed when Go Nagai is the man who pioneered fanservice for the sake of erotic tantalization in manga with Harenchi Gakuen. Hell, even Honey spends half the IP topless or completely nude; and let's not even get into Kekko Kamen in that regard- though we wouldn't have the hilarious insanity that is Hentai Kamen without that.

The OG She-Ra was meant for both boys and girls liks OG Honey was albeit not hypersexualized like Cutie Honey was. I find it delectable that Noelle hates OG She-Ra for "da mael gaeez" yet apparently like an anime that pioneered Hentai animes and whose title heroine is a hypersexualized bisexual-yet prefering women-gynoid who strips herself to activate her hero mode.

Again, this mistreatment of Kyle is the perfect set up to transform him into a villain, a new version of Horde Prime that is the dragon to Hordak and wanting to kill Bow with a complete psychotic personality and heaps of anger in the same bout of Seidou Takizawa, or give him a cold, psychotic and creepy personality, like Eto
Or make him into horde primes host, he seems like he can't be in the universe without some kind of physical body, due to his appearance being more robotic. Maybe both him and Hordac are actually robot avatars for beings beyond their realm. Like datkseid or specter needing a physical yet weaker body to interact with things.

@@fandude666 I see where you're getting at now, i like it, just imagine Hordak revising footage of this battle and getting frustrated, Horde Prime contacts him, they see Kyle actually trying to do his job, Prime commenting he knows the darkness inside the boy and it could be used, Hordak then orders him to be brought in, Lonnie escorting him, Hordak bringing him to Prime and him striking a deal with Prime so he can get power, he is reborn and takes the name General Nosfero or something (since Bats seem to be the Horde's main asestethic as far as their sigil is concerned) or embrace the crazy and have him take Hell Pierrot as a name, have a grand entrance for him by him relentlessly attack an Alliance fort and devastate the place, when She Ra and the others go check, the fun begins, he defeats them in quick succession until he gets to Bow and punishes him, he would be satisfied with his defeat until Horde Prime stoke the fires of his hatred and he would shatter the bones in Bow's er... bow arm, and that is just for starters, if he refuses to carry out orders on a moral standard, Prime can just hijack his mind and do it himself, with Kyle having no memory of the occurred.

Kyle:"Hordac! I'M SORRY LORD AND MASTER, PLEASE DON'T SEND ME INTO THE SLAVE PITS!"
