The water was already chest deep. The dog couldn't even lay down! And you can't tell me the owner was trying for weeks or months to give the dog away and couldn't find ANYBODY to take a beautiful English Bull Terrier. They're great dogs, tons of personality - one of my favorite breeds!

Maybe laws can get tougher unless they already are to run criminal background checks for people adopting pets. Sad part is when he gets out he could just get another dog from a private party and not have it licensed or registered. I do agree with your comment he should not be allowed to ever own any pets, again. He has already proven he is completely irresponsible.

Insurance would be another way, but honestly the main thing is that this guy shouldn’t be allowed to have dogs again, you agree with jail time but not that the man shouldn’t be allowed to own dogs again? I'm 53 happily single, never had kids. My kids have always been my pets. I would die to save my GSD and cat. One of my brothers agreed to keep care of them should something happen to me.

In Florida, aggravated animal cruelty is a felony of the third degree. This means it can result in a maximum prison sentence of up to 5 years. Additionally, a conviction could lead to a fine of up to $10,000.
He should have to pay 10,000 fine and 10 years prohibition. Jail time for animal cruelty seems silly to me.
Sadly with all the 911 services being down because of the desperate need of other rescues and operations during the storm, and the fact that many government resources have paid to support shelters for not just humans but animals and pets as well for these very reasons, he should pay at least triple that amount for it to be fair. It’s like, “we paid to protect not just you but your pet as well!” and you still blew it…

@@streetsmartintelligent last year i was on my way home from work and there was a little old dog standing in the middle of the street. super long story short, it was this old lady's dog and her husband had been trying to get rid of the dog. he ended up letting the dog out that morning smfh he had cataracts in both eyes and barely any teeth. the wife was ticked tf off at the husband and tried to give us money for bringing her baby back home but we wouldn't take it. we felt weird because of the husband but the wife very obviously loved him and wanted him back
If you were that desperate to get rid of an animal, and for some reason couldn't surrender it to an animal shelter, wtf wouldn't you at least set it loose esp with a hurricane coming. Dog would likely find a way to survive and be taken in by someone. Tying it up so slowly drown is sickening.
