I’ve never built a boat but I have built a lot of stuff in my life. I want to build a boat that I can live on for a year as I do the great loop. I don’t think the skills will be a problem, I’ve been a carpenter, cabinet and furniture maker. I may build a small boat first. I love that you laminated the plans, that is a great idea.
I know this is late but I just found this video. I have always loved the lines of the Chinook and want to build it some day. I am currently building a Spira Chalamette which is a micro skiff. My next build I was planning a Tolman Wide Body, but after seeing this I might change my mind back to a Chinook. I just subscribed and will try to watch all of your other videos of this build you have posted so far.
Question: You mention using carbon paper to trace and transfer the lines from the plans to the plywood. I assume the laminated plan is on top. So what tool (or pen/pencil) did you use to trace? It obviously needs to push down through the laminated plan enough to cause transfer of "carbon". Also, what size carbon paper did you use and where did you buy it? Thank you very much, Mike.
