I absolutely hated the dancing-scene in the tent. Others found it endearing or cute, but the fact that they were só close and almost kissed and then Hermione walks off and Harry looks as if he's just been dumped (plus, the next morning, Hermione suggests they should grow old together and Harry is the one ignoring her this time) just made for an awkward 'they're not in a love-triangle"stamement for the adults in the movie.
I can just héár the adults thinking; 'Ohhhh..she was in love with Harry all this time. Oh no, wait, she walks off. I guess he was in love with hér then. And now she loves him back, wants to grow old and he's done with her. Hm."
Because somehow *all* movies need to have the characters to fall in love and suggest that real friendship doesn't exist without sexual feelings *ugh* >

    • @oldenweery7510
      @oldenweery7510 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@Widdekuu91 Yeah, "Hollywood" likes to think their take on things is better than the author's. The books clearly show Harry and Ginny's love for one another growing all the time---except Harry doesn't know how to handle it. The same can be said of Ron and Hermione's relationship in the books. You can see his jealousy coming to the fore in the Christmas Ball scene in the book. He's jealous but doesn't know why! I kind of saw it in her attitude toward Ron---and don't forget they acknowledged his affection for her when she rushed into the dining hall after being "un-petrified" in the second movie. They don't even reference earlier material!

    • @Widdekuu91

      @@oldenweery7510
Yeah, there are a lot of 'foreshadowing' moments in the books and little comments about Hermione or Ron that stares at her or wonders where she's at. It's a shame that had to go and make room for the uneccessary awkward-love-stuff that was not written about.
OH and miss Giant (whatshername, the Dutch one is Mallemour, I forgot her name temporarily) *eating* (!!!) from Hagrid's beard!

  • @auntdeen6314
    @auntdeen6314 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

The one I was waiting for the whole list, thinking it would be #1, was Fred & George’s campaign against Umbridge.
In the books, the one bright spot of Dumbledore’s ouster from Hogwarts was the fact that it unleashed the Weasley twins. Prank after prank after prank, conducted with sly assistance from the teachers, had Headmistress Umbridge tearing out her hair in frustration for weeks until the final huge prank (turning a big chunk of the castle into a swamp) was enacted as a distraction in order for Harry to burgle her office. And when she finally thought she had them cornered, they made their glorious escape.
It was deliciously satisfying, but the movie reduced it to just a bit of fireworks.
    Not even an honorable mention?!?

I would have lost my mind if we got to see Kreacher and the Hogwarts House Elves join in the Battle of Hogwarts.
Behind Harry the door that led to the kitchens was blasted off its hinges. The house-elves of Hogwarts swarmed into the Entrance Hall, screaming and waving carving knives and cleavers, and at their head, the locket of Regulus Black bouncing on his chest, was Kreacher, his bullfrog’s voice audible even above this din: ‘Fight! Fight! Fight for my master, defender of house-elves!

First of all, there is no Charlie Weasley present in the movies at all. They mention him in passing, but that’s it. In the books, doesn’t he fight with his family at the Battle of Hogwarts?
Honestly, Petunia receiving the Howler from Dumbledore should have been more than an honorable mention. In the books, you find out more about Petunia. When Lilly was revealed to be a witch and was accepted into Hogwarts, Petunia wrote to Dumbledore asking if she can attend the school as well. So, Petunia’s hatred of wizards and witches stems more from jealousy then anything. In The Order of the Phoenix (I think), Petunia knows what the Dementors are, asking how “aren’t they suppose to guard Azkaban?” This leads Harry to ask how Petunia knows about them and she continuously says, “doesn’t matter, go to your room”. And in The Deathly Hallows, Petunia shares a somewhat tender moment with Harry when the Dursley leave to go into hiding.

The final battle in the films and Voldemort's death were perfect. They faced off just as they did in PS. Just the two of them. The two bastions of good and evil, fighting one-on-one. If the book had them one-on-one, and the film didn't, a lot of people would be arguing that it was a typical film making things overly visual and dramatic.
I much prefer his film death. Voldemort's ultimate goal was immortality. For him to just disappear is very poetic. He wanted to live forever, and, just like that, he was gone. He didn't leave a body behind to be buried, or burnt. His life's goal was just over; completely reversed in a matter of seconds. Like Slughorn says, "But that's life I suppose. You - you go along, and suddenly… Poof."
Also, it makes sense his body wouldn't survive. We know the soul and physical body are linked - that's why Voldemort looks the way he does. We know that having such little and damaged soul makes your body vulnerable to being destroyed - as that's what happened in Godric's Hollow, all those years before. In Godric's Hollow, his body vanished. It makes sense to assume it disintegrated like it does in DHP2. Voldemort only survived that because of his Horcruxes. This time he has none left, so his body again disintegrates, but now his soul gets trapped in Limbo, forever.
Book fans want to have their cake and it eat. They talk about how Voldemort was less than a man, having lost 7/8 of his soul, that's why his appearance is changed. Yet they'll also say "he was just a man, that's why he should die a normal death." You can't have it both ways. Fact is, he was less than a man, his body's destruction in Godric's Hollow reflects that, and that's why his film death makes perfect sense.
I understand his book death, but you cannot deny that his film death has deeper meaning than "HOLLYWOOD SUX. ONLY INTERESTED IN SFX" like most people claim it does.
Neville gave Harry the gillyweed in 4th year. Seeing more house-elves would be awesome, but what would be cut?
Sectumsempra is the only spell he invented. And it was a point of contention. You just made up it wasn't. Because you're so fucking clearly biased.

The part to where Ginny took Harry's place as seeker for the Gryffindor Quidditch team was true because in the video game adaptation it did that after Harry casted the Sectumsempra spell on Malfoy in some random bathroom at Hogwarts, Snape came in to check on Malfoy and asked Harry on where he learned that spell and Harry gave no answer. So Snape decided to suspend Harry from the Quidditch team and served detention for what he did.

Well, I searched "scenes in harry potter books that should have been in the movies" precisely because I was thinking of Neville's parents. So I'm glad that that's the #1.
Agree with pretty much all the others.
I would like to note though, that if the potions puzzle in the 1st book is included, then they should also follow the Devil's Snare scene as it was in the books.
In the movie, if I remember right, they made it so Hermione was calm and knew exactly what to do to kill the plant.
But in the books, it was Harry's idea to light a fire, then Hermione was panicking and said, "yes, but there's no wood!" It was only after Ron bellowed, "are you a witch or not?" that she thought to use her flame spell.
I believe in the movies, they gave that 'room' to Hermione instead so they don't have to include the potions room. So basically, they left 3 rooms to highlight each one's ability: (a) Devil's Snare for Hermione, (b) flying key room for Harry, and (c) chess room for Ron.

The whole battle of Hogwarts was totally different. No giants, houselves, dragons, centaurs, etc.
I wish they would have included the scene with McGonagall in Ravenclaw tower.
Also, the beginning of Goblet of Fire with the Weaselys meeting the Dursleys, Bill meeting Harry, the Weaselys, Harry, and Hermione sitting in the good seats at the world cup, and the muggles who ran the campsite. and later in the book, Molly and Bill visiting Harry for the family day.
Tonks was my favorite and she was underutilized in the movies. She was at Hogwarts a few times in the sixth book

Mojo can never get a list right!! Why on earth would they put St. Mungos at number 1, when almost none of the info is all that substantial to the final book & movies?! The Gaunt Memory not only shows important info about Voldemort’s lineage, but also showcases 2 Future Horcuxes!! How TF does that memory only get an honorable mention when by any metric, it should’ve been at least in the top 3, if not number 1! And to top it all off; Dumbledore’s “explain it all” speeches at the end of GoF & OotP being reduced to practical uselessness in the movies doesn’t even get an honorable mention?! Do they intentionally do this just to infuriate actual fans?! 🤔😡💯

It is definitely a good thing the SPEW plotline wasn't included. The entire subplot is about how it's OK that the house elves are slaves because they like being enslaved and Hermione is being an idiot to try to free them. Dobby is considered an outlier among the elves and the only lesson the books end up promoting is "treat your slaves better". It's very obvious why this was dropped.

There were many good things in the books that were left out, but Harry’s and Voldie’s end battle in the movie were annoying. Clearly someone wanted to push the limit for what ”cool” special effects they had access to instead of going with the actual story.
No witnesses to his death was really bad but other parts too like Harry being able to grab Voldie and pull him with him and still live to tell the tale.
