@@pasjonatautobusow 11 in carnaval terms is the number of fools and in that way associated with it. For instance every new carnaval season starts on November 11th and you see the numer 11 coming back in several ways in the carnaval tradition.

It's the main thing I miss after I moved to canada. I've introduced multiple canadians and Americans to it and they all love it, although they get overwhelmed. So happy to see you guys enjoy it as well.
I just watched the video. It was fun to see you enjoy yourself. Just remember if you visit Brabant too next year there's completely different rules about costumes in Oeteldonk. Maybe in other places too but I'm not sure about that. In my town there's less carnaval now than there was about 20 years ago but there used to be vans in the street with people from Holland sleeping in them because they were too drunk to drive home.
I am going through a rough time and you brighten my day with this video. O yes and on March 8th the carnaval parades in Sittard are going, because off the wind with carnaval they needed to reschedule. Sittard has the biggest wagens it is beautiful to see and again a good celebration. Xxx much love

Have you heard of Mardi Gras???? New Orleans it just does not get any better than that! Mardi Gras is celebrated in the South, you should check it out next year you will have a lot of fun. We usually have party at home, masks and beads and coins and of course King Cake.
I live in New Jersey. I have heard of Mardi Gras, but we don't have all out celebrations up here. Also, I miss my Dutch friends. When I'm there, we go to a lot of Super Fout parties and there were quite a few that happened during Carnaval that looked awesome.
@@nicoletrowbridge5006 I know I grew up in New Jersey and even attended Catholic Schools but no celebrations☹ After moving south is when we started getting into Mardi Gras, although I live in South Florida and the closest we get to Mardi Gras is a King Cake from Publix. We usually just get together with friends and celebrate on our own, but I understand it's hard when our closest friends are far. Maybe next year you can travel home and enjoy😊
Carnaval might be the biggest in brabant and limburg but it is certainly celebrated in other provinces as well! For example I know it's really big in Twente (Overijssel) and Nijmegen (Gelderland). Even in the tiny town in Gelderland I grew up in there is a carnaval group with a little parade.

Great video. I got happy while watching it. I have only one addition. Carnaval is not only celebrated in brabant and limburg. I live in the province Gelderland and here we also celebrate carnaval. And also a fun note in germany they celebrate carnaval as well. On tv you can watch their procession.
As you say, it is not only celebrated in Brabant en Limburg. I think that the city of Zwolle (province Overijssel) is more or less the border of where it is celebrated, but there are a few enclaves in the northern provences which celebrates Carnaval either.
Lovely video again! I do think it is good to mention that there are more provinces in which carnaval is celebrated or more like small area's more up north. It isn't as big as in Brabant and Limburg where the whole community comes togehter but more like a good oppurtunity to party for 5 days (fri-tue) and drink way too much beer.

Carnaval is not only in Limburg of Brabant.It is also celebrated in a part of Gelderland,Overijssel and even in some villages in Groningen.In every city. that were mainly catholic

Carnaval is also a big deal here in Twente (at least in the towns that are catholic) and some smaller catholic enclaves above the big rivers. Not this year however - The bad weather made sure that most parades were cancelled for safety reasons. I think over 40 Carnaval events were canceled on Sunday due to weather. We were so lucky that Maastrict's wasn't. The big floats/cars/sculptures couldn't be driven for safety reasons, but people were still allowed to walk in the parade :)
Too bad the big optocht with the big cars was canceled almost everywhere because of the bad weather. Think that was also in Maastricht?! For most people that is the highlight of carnaval.

Hi Annet, yes, Carnaval is similar to Mardi Gras and in fact, both are celebrating the same thing. I don't think its disrespectful to dress up like someone from another culture as long as it's done in a respectful way. I don't know how to describe it - but (in my opinion) there is a difference between dressing up and honoring another culture and making fun of another culture by dressing up in a demeaning way. I hope that makes sense - it's difficult to explain! But I don't think the lady featured in this video was being disrespectful in her costume.
Next year you need to go to ‘Tilburg zingt’ and ‘carnaval festival’ with carnaval thats really amazing. And if you want a little bit of carnaval in the summer, come to ‘intents festival’!

Quatschkop, om eens een Zuid-limburgse term te gebruiken. Je weet net zo goed als iedere andere Limburger, dat elke stad en vele dorpen hun eigen carnavalsmuziek en tradities hebben. De Limburgse carnaval is een bonte verzameling van lokale tradities en activiteiten. Maastricht, Sittard en Venlo zijn daarbij de absolute topsteden, maar wat in andere gemeentes gebeurt is net zo betekenisvol.
I'm from the catholic part of the Achterhoek and Carnaval is celebrated here too, just like in the Liemers and in Twente. PS I am a catholic, but I don't like Carneval.
