Hey Todd, I planned a trip to GUMO NP and LNF this November. At fault are you, Cam, Zach and BlueCollar 😁. I'm also planning a [modified] GRT next year if all goes to plan.
I want to commend you on your very well-written trip report I read on a forum somewhere. That, coupled with Cameron's videos, really brougt to life the highlights, struggles and victory of tackling the GRT.
Would you happen to know if the boundary fence at the hiker gate runs all the way East along Wilderness Ridge or does it stop after a short distance from the gate?

Hey man, thanks for commenting! The GRT is a tough hike, but very rewarding. The boundary fence between GUMO and the Linc "dead-ends" to the west at the edge of McKittrick Canyon where the edge just basically falls away. I'm sad to say I haven't explored to the east to see how far the fence continues. I'm assuming it continues along the state line until it hits the edge of the canyon, but that's purely conjecture. Now that you mention it, it would be pretty easy to verify that. Hmmm...

@@ToddvsTodd I didn't see any obvious sign of a fence when looking at aerial imagery. Then again, I can't even spot the known hiker gate and adjacent fencing. There are several draws that come off the ridge and channel rain water toward the North. I wonder how they'd manage to fence them off without significantly impacting the landscape.
Anyway, having easy access to the Northern sections of the plateaus up on Wilderness Ridge would serve dual or triple purposes for me. I suppose finding out when I get there will comprise part of the adventure aspect of the trip!

FWIW, I called around to get some general info and to inquire about the boundary. In short, the responses were as follows:
      BLM: "Huh??"
      LNF: "Good question; I dunno."
GUMONP: "Yep, there's a fence all along the boundary except for rugged terrain areas. Fence only delineates the property. Hop over if you want, no problem."
      So....that takes care of that!
