Now, what we need to accompany this new edition is the serious student’s modern editors’ comparative variant readings compendium. Let it be a proper desk/study size- A4. Enter for every chosen verse the variant of each of the chosen modern editions. I suppose that the initial modern editions would be ByzT/MT-RP2018 and CT-NA28. Alongside NA28, note the A-D evaluation system of UBS5. Bring in at once or later Byz/MT-FH1987 and Byz/MT-Pickering 2015 and CT-SBL and CT-TH2017. We perhaps should include Byz/Patriarchal 1904 (as currently lightly amended?). Then, a textual discussion should ensue. The model of presentation might be a tweaked version of what is being done in the ongoing BHQ series. We really do need to present, in a unified way and in the same place and in an uncramped format, to the serious student, a conspectus of the readings of the leading current editions; and we ought to include a decent discussion of important variants. The initial variants chosen might be the UBS ones with the A-D evaluations, as these are generally reckoned to be noteworthy, and perhaps some others considered to be most important. Now, personnel and costs! Why not engage competent students? How many student hours would be required, and what would be a fair hourly rate for a student? And what would be other costs? I do not envisage a glossy finished product, but a competent one, to be put on line and to be consulted or recorded or printed out by the user.

The font is good. The compact size is great. The quality of binding leaves much to be desired, for what they are charging, with shipping being extra. The Tyndale leather Greek NT iIs much nicer. Nonetheless, now I have it, I will enjoy using it.

Got mine today. It is very nice, but it is on the small side for me. The font is clear, but seems some what small compared to the older blue edition. I like it very much though. Like the gold lined pages and the leather cover. Would indeed recommend it for purchase. TBS did a great job here. I would love to see it larger and made into a reader's edition.

@@BiblicalStudiesandReviews I got my hardcover today! Love the font. The hardcover will stay open on Matt 1 (a little off the table, but still open). Sewn binding. Dane put out his review today and the margins on the HC appear to be the same size on the leather. No ribbon, but I can add my own. Incredible value for $10+shipping!
What would be most important to me is how the bible lays open when you read it. Can it stay open on Matt 1? Looking forward to your review. If you want pictures of the HC for comparison, just let me know.

This is really beautiful and a great improvement over the last version as far as typeface and readability IMO. I almost immediately impulse bought the calfskin version after seeing
it, but then restrained myself and asked - Do I really need another GNT? No, not really... Do I want another GNT?... why, yes, of course! (don't have any of the TBS Scrivener
editions, but only a 1906 edition of Scrivener's Stephanus text I convinced myself to buy. It would be nice to have I told myself, a piece of history!). I always think I could spend that $ on other books I want instead of 'one more' GNT. I just know I'll want a copy of whatever next edition/version comes out as well. So, I may just go for the hardback (but leather
is so tempting). I imagine asking if I should get a copy (whatever version) and everyone answering in unison - YES! ;) Decisions, Decisions...

Pretty sure it is the same. But I gave my old one away. So I can’t compare it. It does have a note about why they chose Scrivener’s edition without the textual variants. I can’t remember if that was in the previous preface or not.

Exaxt same font as Tyndale House GNT. Easy on the eyes and I agree better than the old TBS font. Wish it had wide margins. And double or triple ribbons.

    • @joelfreehling3650
      @joelfreehling3650 ปีที่แล้ว

The Tyndale House is Adobe Text Pro, this appears to be Adobe Minion Pro (inspecting as well as I can with enlarged screencaps and not actual text in hand - definitely not Text
Pro, nor even earlier Minion versions like Minion 3... which has clearly distinct Lambdas, Zetas, etc.).
The Pi, Lambda, Zeta, and final Sigma are all quite distinct with Text Pro (I think the final Sigma and Pi are the most unique).
I admit to spending way too many hours looking over numerous fonts for Polytonic Greek and trying to notice their nuances, judging their overall readability, look on the page, etc. I love the layout of the Tyndale House (especially the ekthesis / left indentation of paragraphs), but I'm liking the Minion Pro over Text Pro as a typeface (I think it looks cleaner,
more open/less cramped, and more elegant).

This would definitely be one of "The Big Three" in my Greek New Testament collection, i.e. the Textus Receptus, Byzantine Text, and the Tyndale House Greek New Testament. The UBS-5 might've made it "The Big Four" if the committee hadn't departed from the Greek manuscripts entirely in 2nd Peter 3:10, a big step in the wrong direction for that edition.

Must say: I'm disappointed in this edition. Font is better, but the verse numbers blend in too much, margins are the same, there are no blank pages in the back as opposed to the 18 or so of the previous editions, and i think it is less usable overall than the previous edition unless used for devotional reading. I think mine may just end up getting thrown into my backpack for work.

@@Kens1966 The word, “homosexual”, is a hybrid word, made up of a Greek component, “homo =same”, and a Latin component, “sexual- = pertaining to sexual activity”. The word was indeed coined, apparently, in Germany, in 1868; so one would not expect it to appear in a Greek work of the first century of our era! But, the concept, with descriptive words, is certainly in Classical and Koiné Greek, not least at 1 corinthians 06:09-10, where two words are used : “malakoi = soft (men) = passive or submissive partner in homosexual activity”; and “arsenokoitai = male.bedder.s = active or dominant partner in homosexual activity”. Note that : 1. there is a list of sinful activities; 2. it is the activities, and not the proclivities, that are condemned; 3. the practice of homosexuality is not singled out as being worse than the other sins; 4. there is complete cleansing available for all the sins listed, so that the Kingdom of heaven may be entered.
