Tony went home at 85-years on March 28, 2007 in Rome (Italy) at age 85-years. Prostate cancer stilled his voice - but NOT forever. For, even on clarinet, James Carter is keeping Tony's sweet bellicosity alive and soaring. How sad! I've just been sadly informed.
Tony Scott and Rahsaan Roland Kirk might have attended the same Music Conservatory.(laughter) While Tony specialized in clarinet pugnacity, Rahsaan, on the other hand, embraced saxophone belligerence - among other instruments' daring. I adore and admire the facility with which Tony ascends the altissimo overtone high notes. Like to hear him on a ballad; want to hear also his use of the lower register of the instrument; won't you? Great post; thanks!😠
Mirko Di Fraia;😞 Miles Davis attended Juilliard School of Music. Many other great players of Organic Real Jazz brilliance have also attended Juilliard School of Music. These virtuosos create, improvise and personalize their individual opuscules. Other great clarinet maestros: Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, John Carter, James Carter, George Lewis, Sidney Bechet, Don Byron, Paquito D'Rivera, Anat Cohen, Michael White, Jimmy McGiuffre - - - among others. How generous!😞
Mirko Di Fraia: Rahsaan Roland Kirk did not attend Juilliard - to the best of my knowledge. When it is a question of "Organic Real Jazz" Performance, there are scores of great learning institutions comparable to or even better than Juilliard. Among the VERY BEST known clarinetists of American Classical Music, JAZZ, have been Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Buddy DeFranco, John Carter, Paquito D'Riviera and Eddie Daniels - none of whom attented Juilliard, despite their being among the virtuosic BEST. I adore and admire Eddie Daniels who studied clarinet performance at New York's Brooklyn College where he procured a Masters Degree. He has more than too many awards to his name for clarinet brilliance - and tenor saxophone excellence. "Tony's and Rahsaan's attending the same music school" was not meant to be taken literally. Rather, the subtle comparison has been more about their mannerisms and styles during live performances - Tony, on the clarinet; Rahsaan, on the tenor saxophone and other woodwind instruments. - with all due regards!😠

Tony is a poet, an angry voice but that can suddenly became tender and sweet. Thanx my friend for the GREAT lesson of life, friendship and MUSIC you gave me in all the years we spent tighter.. For ever in my heart
You can REALLY see and hear the tension in this man's playing. His shoulder's, the acceleration of all of his movement and all not-cracking. Sounds sick but I kinda wished he wasn't so tense.
holy crap he speaks japanese pretty well. And his clarinet playing is insane. I have never heard more active playing. Even pete fountain is not this aggressive.
I wonder if he’s moving that way to intentionally create a chorusing effect? Either way, it does create a chorus effect. Sam Newsome intentionally creates a chorus effect with soprano saxophone by moving the instrument in different directions.
This theatrics are totally unnecessary, they are just histrionics total BS. Sure he plays Jazz, but the gyrations do not add one bit to the music. I just dislike those people who use the clarinet to sweep the space in front of them.
You're saying that an artist should confirm to some bullshit you have floating around in your head. Would prefer if he played while sitting on a sofa, his feet up? He's doing what came naturally. The effect on the sound is completely irrelevant.
@@DenkyManner Boy do I agree with you on what you said. I can understand that someone might not prefer his performance style but he really didn't care or he wouldn't do what he does the way he does it...No real artist ever began his or her work hoping to conform to the individual tastes of listeners. Artists create to satisfy their own personal desires - not to satisfy every listener. I would rather any listener just said: I don't like it. It just doesn't appeal to me.
Tony Scott incomparabile, potenza disperata di un jazzista modernissimo, ricerca l'assoluto e lo raggiunge.

Tony was brilliant. Way beyond the scope of most understanding. Deep.
He was a genius, that's all.
best version of Autumn leaves I've heard...
Not for sure
Agree
Sono d'accordo
That was so beautfull. Those high notes... holy shit

he spitted his soul in that clarinet
ufffff….!!!! holyshit thats beautiful
I wasn't sure I liked it at first, but then I started tapping my foot & nodding to the beat, & I got into it.
That's Hot Jazz clarinet, right there!
❤️🎼🎵🎶🙏 Tony Scott
Wow, how he physically "jumps" into that solo with full force! Although he is a modern musician, he is comparable to Sidney Bechet.
amazing
Questo e un grande del clarinettista salemi Tano.
Thanks for posting this. It's the only video I've seen of Tony, and he's playing is ass off (as he did regularly).
You can REALLY see and hear the tension in this man's playing. His shoulder's, the acceleration of all of his movement and all not-cracking. Sounds sick but I kinda wished he wasn't so tense.
Incredible!!
Wow. Wow!
Wow this guy gives new life to the clarinet
holy crap he speaks japanese pretty well. And his clarinet playing is insane. I have never heard more active playing. Even pete fountain is not this aggressive.
Two totally different clarinetist. But, I hear ya. Love both, but Tony -- and great Alvin Bastiste-- were ahead of their time.
1955, 1957, 1958, 1959 Tony won the DownBeat critics poll as the best clarinetist.
Espléndido clarinetista! Referente jazzistico!
favoloso

Inimitabile!!!!!
Antony Joseph Sciacca: the best clarinetist of all time
Tony Scott is the best Clarinetist of the Jazz History! (Sorry Jimmy Giuffre: You Are the Second One!)
I've always dug Tony and agree he's a monster, but there's also Prez, Pee Wee, Buddy, Don Byron, Guiffre, and Artie, all of whom are formidable!.
by far
Not for sure
Although this is pure speculation and subjective matter... I would still say there is only ONE true jazz clarinetist - Buddy DeFranco.
@@elrondsch That is true!
This is the same guy that did Music for Zen Meditation and then Music for Yoga Meditation and Other Joys?
Sure is
Wow!
Он Бог!
Esatto
Antony Joseph Sciacca (1921-2007)
Era un políglota !!!
WTF was that at 1:34?!
a high E above the altissimo E on the clarinet - E7, or D7 concert xD
😃🌸🌾🎶
massa
I can read "incomparable".. 😅😅😅
Benny Goodman was the Best clarinet ever in this poor little world....
You had to take care of yourself.
Not of your bassist.
His playing is terrible, he is playing like a crazy
Try listening with your eyes closed. Might sound not so crazy.

Haha, yeah it's a bit over the top there. It's whatever though, it sounds pretty good. There's skill in it, and I think that's what counts
It might be Tourette's syndrome. I agree that it's very distracting.
You're saying that an artist should confirm to some bullshit you have floating around in your head. Would prefer if he played while sitting on a sofa, his feet up? He's doing what came naturally. The effect on the sound is completely irrelevant.
Un musicista non può raccontare balle. Lui suonava per come era . Volete forse l’uniformità di interpretazione ?

Yuck! That was rubbish.
Yuck! Someone played like they were alive and not half dead.
Vediamo se sai fare tu di meglio
Why you listened to it then?
That was terrible, those gyrations do nothing for musicianship. Give me Benny Goodman any time.
ok, boomer. you keep benny goodman, the rest of us will enjoy someone working to pull some new energy out of a hackneyed song.
Nulla togliendo a Benny Goodman, ma Tony è il Dio di ogni clarinettista jazz e non oltre che di molti jazzisti
