Simon didn't know what he was talking about then. David was full of charisma...playing to the crowd, taking the mic and moving around the stage, and omg, that wink!!! And what was that crack about the rules. David was merely pointing out that he had to win the fans over in order to succeed in the competition! That is one of those times I don't miss Simon!
David is a very charismatic person. I've met him twice over the summer. His smile lights his whole face up and the crowds couldn't get enough of him. I've seen him in concert and he performed the best set of all the idols. His recent Christmas gigs which I wish I could have attended looked awesome on the tube. Judging by the media reviews and the people who went to the recent concerts, David was very popular and very engaging with the crowds.
Well it was a funny situation for DC because I don’t think he actually had winning in mind like a lot of the other people on this show. He just wanted to have some fun and make some money in the meanwhile. So you can clearly hear he was just jolly being a silly happy version himself and had a vibe of: “hey ma lookie me I’m on American idol rocking out this is so freakin awesome man!” I think that was where Simon was coming from that he was taking this competition too lightly like a school rock and boy instead of really trying the hardest to win people over. But later on weeks after weeks it just dawned on him that he might actually win this whole deal, his persona then really changed and evolved, so hence he really worked on the whole charisma situation. He was much more serious and professional with everything and you can see the pressure mounting on him especially with the rock week where he was almost a bit lost with the pressure and the expectations. He was less carefree, and clearly less relaxed than here on the early weeks.
I LOVED when he did this on Idol ... I still love watching it - 4 years later! Wish there was a full version ... AWESOMENESS! Can you spell CHARISMA? Yup: D-A-V-I-D C-O-O-K!
This was definitely one of his best performances of the season...he rocked the heck out of it!!! Simon is totally full of s**t. And part of the reason we love David is that he is SMART and soooooo not boring and sooooooooo full of charisma!!!
And Mr. David Charisma Cook took it all and continues to gain loyal fans. What a great performance for this early in the contest. Having been to some of his concerts, I can say that David Cook live is amazing. His singing and funny banter are fantastic.
This is the 1 where Simon said he had no CHARISMA!!! Don't know what Simon was smoking. He had to eat his words when he came out & sang HELLO then later BILLIE JEAN. He's great!!
@@christhornycroft3686Sometimes he does, but not here. Simon had no idea what he was talking about much of the season regarding David Cook. Including the end, telling him that he lost, and sang the wrong song (which was one of the best performances of the season). He had to eat his words the next night.
lol I love watching these videos back after the competition is over. Simon was so wrong and it's hilarious. His fans are now called the word nerds, so this is really funny. Simon will change his mind later. haha It's just funny to think how different Simon's opinion was in the end.
This is the sexiest damn thing I've ever seen in my life. He leaves me breathless. Really. No charisma! Ridiculous! His charisma's off the charts. And courageous for David to speak up. Though I often back Paula, I agree that her comment about "junior high girls" was annoying and misleading; this song is made for those who enjoy sexy men (most of us way beyond junior high!), and David's take is intense perfection. I'd love to hear him sing this as his reprise.
I've seen the previous seasons and there has not been a contestant like him. He just has a great level. In fact i think this is the best season of all!!
Epic moment on Idol~ Showed how confident and smart David Cook was and that even Simon Cowel can be wrong about some contestants (he was right in most cases)
I definitely agree with the judges that David Cook is the rocker of the entire cast and he is a talented rock singer! He’s my favorite singer of that season!
I can't stop listening to David, he can make any song his! What awesome talent! What a wide range and I loved the way he spanked Simon. Simon can't take it like he can dish it out. Even if he is good at seeing real talent.
I never tire of watching DC Idol performances... My favorite part of this one? 2:23-2:27. That "other rocker'/former Britney boyfriend Robbie not clapping with the other male contestants, thinking "Ah crap. My schtick would hold up against this guy."
That film helped A LOT!! A rocker who likes to READ! It's like we got someone who can sing us a rock song which is as beautiful as a love sonnet. What else can we hope for from a guy!
I still laugh out loud when Simon said he had no charisma. Hell, it was David describing himself as a word nerd that made me totally fall in love! And seeing this performance again, we see the seeds of his great talent and showmanship that we saw all throughout the Declaration Tour 2009.
I love this song by David Cook. He grew so much week after week. Talk about awkward though...the way Simon got all bent out of shape. Simon was rude and looked like a fool, IMO. So glad David Cook won Season 7.
Oh lawd, when Paige sang this I was yelling at the TV; "Sweetie, you're not David Cook, put the microphone down and walk away!" I feel as though every time someone does a song that he performed this season, their version doesn't quite measure up.
@3:52 says Simon to the soon to be season winner, yet again, showing Simon to be totally wrong!... ie Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson, etc...
it's not just cook. there were many idol prospects as well--michael, carly, syesha, jason c., brooke, and of course archuleta. they were all great, very likeable, unique, and unforgettable.
Simon Cowell turns people into millionaires and these contestants act like he's always against them. He's bold with his comments, sure. But you know what? That's why he's rich. Because he knows what sells and how to turn ordinary into fantastic.
P.S. Showing us his vocabulary and brains makes him fascinating to the nth degree; that is, MORE, not less, interesting and beautiful. Wow, Simon was off the mark with everything here. And yes, those arms. Those arms...
I'm not a huge AI fan but I thought he did quite well on this song. I would have been clapping had I seen it live. Remember....this is an early 70's song sung by and kid born in the late 80's and grown up in the 21st century. I don't expect him to feel at home with this song.
@rolitotube you said simons was only an opinion? well other ppl can have an opinion too,not just simon cowell. i think david was humble and did take criticism from the judges enough times, but if someone doesnt agree with wut your saying, i think that person has every right to stick up for themselves. btw, i looked up american idol and i saw that it says, and i quote " american idol is created and executive produced by simon fuller and executive produced by
It sure is easy to forget that he had lots of other people competing against him. He had been a "real rocker" for years before this with Axium (and Analog Heart of course.)
MusicDude2009 - I stated in my comment that he was a good singer none the less. I liked his performance. I was just pointing out something that everyone else missed. Were you involved in his production?
This literally just felt like his own concert. Dude's effortless on stage
He was the only contestant on the whole show who, when he performed, actually PERFORMED. Not just sang, but put on a good show.
Simon didn't know what he was talking about then. David was full of charisma...playing to the crowd, taking the mic and moving around the stage, and omg, that wink!!! And what was that crack about the rules. David was merely pointing out that he had to win the fans over in order to succeed in the competition! That is one of those times I don't miss Simon!
i find it unbelievable that Simon made the charisma comment when you go back and watch this and it is charisma all over the place

This was the song that got me hooked on David Cook.
Me Too! Wordnerd for Life!
I fell in love with the rocker that night....the rest is history!!!
+Maria Larracuente Me too...It was his voice and his reply to Simon that did it for me.
Me too!! And all these years later I still like him!
this is the one that got me hooked.
still listening in 2020..my mom and I loved how David schooled Simon..no Charisma my Ass....The only one on the show that had any..
Still listening too. 👍

Sorry Simon, but dude's still got charisma and it's 2023. And that wink at 1:29! ❤🥵
This was definitely one of his best performances of the season...he rocked the heck out of it!!! Simon is totally full of s**t. And part of the reason we love David is that he is SMART and soooooo not boring and sooooooooo full of charisma!!!
He has is it all. The look, an incredible voice, an amazing musical flexibility. WOW.
And Mr. David Charisma Cook took it all and continues to gain loyal fans. What a great performance for this early in the contest.
Having been to some of his concerts, I can say that David Cook live is amazing. His singing and funny banter are fantastic.
This is the song that really got me. The really deep to the falsetto.
This is the 1 where Simon said he had no CHARISMA!!! Don't know what Simon was smoking. He had to eat his words when he came out & sang HELLO then later BILLIE JEAN. He's great!!
Simon knows exactly what to say to bring out the best in a good performer. You can't argue with the results. The guy stepped up his game and won.
@@christhornycroft3686Sometimes he does, but not here. Simon had no idea what he was talking about much of the season regarding David Cook. I think he has it ALL!!
this is the moment David Cook became my favorite!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE!!!!!
I would fall in love with him in a heartbeat.
COUGARS FOR COOK !!!!!!!

THIS… (Just) PUT ME, in the “Best” MOOD!!! (MISS, IT). ;)
I Especially ❤ THE VID (B4!)
This is the only that I've watched from beginning to end.Great and interesting season.
He’s my favorite singer of that season!
he sang every high note clearly and easily..amazing.
David is just in another leauge...awesome!!
I love how he performed such a classic rock classic on a seriously contemporary show. If only there was more like him.
I loved his look back then! Amazingly talented guy!
This made me fall in love with him. An obsessive love that did not die for about 5-6 months.
His low register and sweet falsetto - ooooh Simon you just were clueless.
I can't stop listening to David, he can make any song his! What awesome talent! What a wide range and I loved the way he spanked Simon. Simon can't take it like he can dish it out. Even if he is good at seeing real talent.

My favorite part of this one? 2:23-2:27. That "other rocker'/former Britney boyfriend Robbie not clapping with the other male contestants, thinking "Ah crap. My schtick would hold up against this guy."
Marta Diehm I just noticed that! What a tool.
That is one SEXY voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ITA David rocked this song & made it sexy! And I think he has tons of charisma!
That film helped A LOT!! A rocker who likes to READ! It's like we got someone who can sing us a rock song which is as beautiful as a love sonnet. What else can we hope for from a guy!
"Women like smart men."
That's right, Simon.
I hope david cooks,he's the only reason i watch the crapola show that is american idol
Doesn't have a lot of Charisma?
Shocking statement Simon.
The man has the most charisma of anyone I have ever known or seen.
I still laugh out loud when Simon said he had no charisma. Hell, it was David describing himself as a word nerd that made me totally fall in love! And seeing this performance again, we see the seeds of his great talent and showmanship that we saw all throughout the Declaration Tour 2009.
I loved where he called Simon out. :) Somebody needed to do it a long time ago.
I know, right? He's absolutely perfect.
David Cook is still AWESOME!!!!
he played it pretty cool.
WOW, never heard it done in that key, that's cool though!
miss this sound of david, he changed postidol. this sound is closer to his pre-idol sound. but, i still love him, and can't wait for his next cd!!!
"Im alright with that!' ~ DC "Unfortunately I dont have to win yOu over (Simon!)!!
wow those damn arms of his are awesome!
You should see Rick Springfield’s. Wow amazing for an old guy!
I love this song by David Cook. He grew so much week after week. Talk about awkward though...the way Simon got all bent out of shape. Simon was rude and looked like a fool, IMO. So glad David Cook won Season 7.
He sang this song with "Justice"..from then on...i loved this song.
David iS "The Real Deal"... rocks my world!
Underrated performance.
NOW THATS THE BOMB!!!!!!
Oh lawd, when Paige sang this I was yelling at the TV; "Sweetie, you're not David Cook, put the microphone down and walk away!"
I feel as though every time someone does a song that he performed this season, their version doesn't quite measure up.
A good singer made a very good cover of this song!
@3:52 says Simon to the soon to be season winner, yet again, showing Simon to be totally wrong!... ie Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson, etc...
Rock'n Hunk oozziiinngg CHARISMA
thanks! It's hard work, but I'm glad I can make a difference. =)
Rockin Sexy Beast! "Youre the real deal"
ROckin Hunk David Cook the BEST of
American Idol!!
gahhhhh, i love himmm :]
5:21 Simon with his half-moose antics!!! :D
it's not just cook. there were many idol prospects as well--michael, carly, syesha, jason c., brooke, and of course archuleta. they were all great, very likeable, unique, and unforgettable.
He Truly deserves it!A.I. season 7.
freaking sweet shit
Season 7 was the best season . . .
Too bad we can't have David again on season 8,9 and so on.
:)
Simon Cowell turns people into millionaires and these contestants act like he's always against them. He's bold with his comments, sure. But you know what? That's why he's rich. Because he knows what sells and how to turn ordinary into fantastic.
I loved Davids attitude on this video. Simon really needed someone to stand up to him eventually.
Simon ate his words by the time DC got to the top 12.
I am going to marry this man. No kidding.
COOK RULES...GO DAVID GO..
His arms are pretty! And that chick who sang this last night absolutely murdered the song!
looks like simon does need a recap on the rules of the in this episode:) Love you david!
this song is called alright now by free
VOTE 4 DAVID COOK
so very true.
it's just not the same without him.
@rolitotube I love David, but I definitely agree. But the great thing about David, he learned from that, and did he ever talk back again? No.
LOL I forgot about David giving Simon back chat... balls of steel.
P.S. Showing us his vocabulary and brains makes him fascinating to the nth degree; that is, MORE, not less, interesting and beautiful. Wow, Simon was off the mark with everything here.
And yes, those arms. Those arms...
I agree with you
The real deal. You got, you got it, you got it.
good vocal control, i love his highs and lows, i actually miss his baritone voice.
I wish they had someone with a cool voice like this on the Swedish Idol show
his guitar playing looks effortless!! im not loving this song but i love what he said to simon
BACKSAS! :D
simon always get some tension with the best ones xD
adam, david, daughtry, etcetera..
i definitely agree.. season 7 is the best...
I'm not a huge AI fan but I thought he did quite well on this song. I would have been clapping had I seen it live. Remember....this is an early 70's song sung by and kid born in the late 80's and grown up in the 21st century. I don't expect him to feel at home with this song.
I like it when Cook talked back to Simon.
WORDNERD FOR LIFE!
this is much better than this guy trying to cover the Beatles, which just does not work for him. This is more in line with his style and persona.
It is sooo funny that Simon said he had no charisma! But I do see a major difference in his performance from this week and later weeks!
@rolitotube you said simons was only an opinion? well other ppl can have an opinion too,not just simon cowell. i think david was humble and did take criticism from the judges enough times, but if someone doesnt agree with wut your saying, i think that person has every right to stick up for themselves. btw, i looked up american idol and i saw that it says, and i quote " american idol is created and executive produced by simon fuller and executive produced by
this is one of my favorite performances of DC. this guy has way more talent than DA.
1:29 ♥___♥ swwoooonn !
I hella laughed out loud at the awkward tension between Simon and David.
'Optamistically Pessemistic'
LOOOOOOOL
loved his hair here...just had to point that out. Hottttt...
